My 4 yr old just told me that my dh dropped himself and his older brother off at a hardware shop to buy some stuff for him while dh drove off to the supermarket a mile away to buy some groceries! This happened yesterday while I was working. My dh never mentioned it last night when we were talking about our respective days.
U have txt him what do said, asking if do was mistaken. But have not had an answer back.
AIBU to think this is completely unacceptable and very dangerous?

How old is the older brother ? 5? 15? 25?

whirlyswirly · 23/10/2017 15:03

No, of course you aren't being unreasonable. Mine are a good few years older and I'd never do that. The 8 year old is not old enough to be responsible for himself, never mind a four year old brother. Has he got form for this level of stupidity?

araiwa · 23/10/2017 15:03

Is older brother 5 or 25?

Kinda important detail

Namechangetempissue · 23/10/2017 15:03

Expecting an 8 year old to look after the 4 year old alone in a shop is completely unacceptable and I would be furious. Especially as the dad had driven off to another store and wasn't in the vicinity at all. What a dick.

It says in the title older brother is 8

DunkMeInTomatoSoup · 23/10/2017 15:04

Where does it saay the older brother is 8?

kaytee87 · 23/10/2017 15:04

Not acceptable of him to expect an 8 yo to be in charge of a 4 yo especially as he was a mile away and could be some time doing shopping.

DunkMeInTomatoSoup · 23/10/2017 15:05

I thought it was a 'quote &*&^% typo Grin

araiwa · 23/10/2017 15:05

I wish mn would fix title formatting on mobile

scurryfunge · 23/10/2017 15:06

Do you think the 4 year old may have got muddled up?

araiwa · 23/10/2017 15:06

Only me and dunk on mobile then?! Grin

DunkMeInTomatoSoup · 23/10/2017 15:07

I love the way the threads apper here, whilst a text is in transit, the DH hasnt replied, yet a harpy has already announced he is a dick

Crunchymum · 23/10/2017 15:07

I would be beyond livid. That is just not on.

Namechangetempissue · 23/10/2017 15:07

No, on mobile here too?

Dh sent ds 8&4 into a shop while he drove off to another
KoalaD · 23/10/2017 15:08

YANBU.

Unless you're missing out some important detail, like you live in a one-horse town and the shopkeeper is your sons' godfather.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 23/10/2017 15:08

The OP has clearly stated the older child's age in the title; the older child is 8.
No, OP, YANBU. I don't think that's even remotely a sensible thing for your DH to do. It is quite dangerous really, having thought about it. I would be pretty unimpressed.

Namechangetempissue · 23/10/2017 15:09

He IS A DICK if he left them. If not, then he obviously isn't. Not hard to figure out. Signed Harpy x

araiwa · 23/10/2017 15:09

On the actual thread is ok but frontpage screws up

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/10/2017 15:10

He left an 8 YO and a 4 YO at a hardware store? Shock.

What could possibly go wrong?

And I'm one of them that would pop over to the Post Office if I was literally going to be out of the house a minute or two, but this time YANBU. What was he thinking? Assuming that there hasn't been some huge miscommunication along the way somehow?

DunkMeInTomatoSoup · 23/10/2017 15:12

Is the hardware store of significance? Would a haberdashers have been better? Did this happen in Surbiton or downtown Soweto? Detail is so important in these threads!

user1471501171 · 23/10/2017 15:14

Sorry. Typing on my phone and furious. Predictive txt getting the better of me. Ds 8 yrs old and 4yrs old.
On one occasion he left the 4 kids in the car while he into Aldi quickly and I gave out loads to him. I have not heard of him doing anything like that since until today.
The 4yr old was a bit muddled in his story telling, which is why I txt Dh asking if ds was mistaken.
Ds 8 will be home from school in a few minutes to verify the story.

araiwa · 23/10/2017 15:17

So strange

I dont get why hed drop them off somewhere rather than just keep them in the car

DunkMeInTomatoSoup · 23/10/2017 15:18

Lets hope DC8 debunks rather than verifies Grin

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 23/10/2017 15:18

Id go mad if its true, lets hope ds8 says it was just while he parked or something! I wouldnt want an 8 yr old shopping on his own,let alone having sole responsibility for a 4 year old!
