I'm a grown women ffs...also what the hell sort of halloween costume is Rainbow Dash anyway?

Also if anyone has any ideas how to make pony hair that a) holds its shape, b) keeps the colours in order, c) 'swishes' then please PLEASE let me know.

H&M?

gabsdot · 23/10/2017 14:55

We saw a woman dressed as rainbow dash in the park one day, posing as her boyfriend took photos.
She was dressed in a blue tracksuit with a rainbow tail attached and rainbow ears and hair attachment.
DD immediately recognised her

Crunchymum · 23/10/2017 14:55

Sounds like someone has a bit of a diva on their hands.

Surely your 6yo DD should just be grateful for whatever you can make (or buy)

Morphene · 23/10/2017 14:55

nonfat ohhh the one with the series of coloured hair clippy things is inspired!

That might actually work!

except on the tail...the tail is a whole other world of annoyance.

Hair chalk or lots of strips of different coloured tulle (the tutu stuff)

Morphene · 23/10/2017 14:58

hmm you could knot the tutu stuff at the top then it would swish away....

crunchy yes there is more than a little diva here.

I think I'm suffering from the sunken cost fallacy...I already put loads of effort into making the trousers and hooded top...I've nearly made the wings and the ears...its just the stupid fecking hair to sort out...

hairchalk

Katescurios · 23/10/2017 15:14

Buy a beanie hat and thread bright coloured wool through it in chunks google diy yarn wig for instructions. Its surprisingly quick and effective

notnowthough · 23/10/2017 15:17

I feel your pain OP. Santa was always asked for impossible things and it resulted in such disappointment. I really wished I could just magic up an actual unicorn or whatever that year's impossible wish was.

notWORKzilla · 23/10/2017 15:19

It's the wrong colour horse, but is it something like this that she is hoping for? the straps go over the child's shoulders and she stands in the middle of it (if that makes sense?).

Here is the link to buy it

WomblingThree · 23/10/2017 15:20

Honestly, I think you need to tell her to accept what she gets. She’s 6, and setting up expectations like this are going to lead to a hell of a lot of stress in future when you can’t deliver every single thing she requires.

It’s fancy dress. It’s supposed to be either hand-made and dodgy or bought from the supermarket. You are being ever so slightly ridiculous.

Lovestonap · 23/10/2017 15:20

Oh my God. Don't be that mum, that mum that sheds blood, sweat and tears and complains about it whilst secretly feeling smug that she is a 'proper' mum and looks down on the amazon primers....

(there's an outside chance I'm projecting here......)
Anyway, bought stuff is cooler and usually more cost effective than home made stuff. And can then be sold on at future Halloweens to recoup costs.

If it has to be homemade, for the tail some lengths of coloured satin ribbon?

DumptonPark · 23/10/2017 15:21

My 6yo has been invited to a party with a prize for the best homemade Halloween costume. He's adamant that he doesn't want to dress up but I know he will probably change his mind at the last minute. So I need to make something that looks like he made it - cheap enough so it's not wasted if he doesn't wear it, but good enough to win if he does!

0hT00dles · 23/10/2017 15:23

I’ve bought a dress from H&M before and seen a few different ones floating around. There’s also this: m.dunnesstores.com/my-little-pony-dress-up/halloween-costumes/dunnesstores/fcp-product/6950967?colour=blue

I’ve seen them in person and they are decent enough!

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 23/10/2017 15:23

Morphene step away from the sewing machine and buy this for £8.99

notWORKzilla · 23/10/2017 15:24

DumptonPark

Pirate? Stripey top that he can wear anytime? Eye patch? Paper hat?

Katescurios · 23/10/2017 15:27

@dumptonpark would he go as a crayon? Big bit of coloured card rolled and taped with armholes cut in it.

Black lines round top and bottom and the word crayola drawn on.

Then a matching coloured cone hat with a bit of elastic under the chin

StigmaStyle · 23/10/2017 15:27

'I don't mind if it isn't perfect Mum, I will love it just knowing you made it'

OMG op words of doom :o

Morphene · 23/10/2017 15:30

love I don't think I'm that mum.....I mean I'm making a right hash of it - I've never made anything like this before and have spent most of my time unpicking stuff because I've put the sleeve in inside out etc.

I think I just need to build up more resistance to mum guilt. DD guilt trips me every time I go out the door to work...but I'm pretty sure I can't buy her appreciation with home made costumes!

OP posts:
Morphene · 23/10/2017 15:31

stigma well quite.....I think she even wants it to be true...but it isn't. She will absolutely cry if it isn't what she was hoping for.

OP posts:
Morphene · 23/10/2017 15:32

dumpton thank god someone else has pitched in with a problem....I was starting to feel like I'm the only one who's fallen for this shit.
