People that are desperate for you to think that they have such a great life. If they're out, we all know about it. Tagged in lots of fab places, selfies with lots of fun looking people, pictures of their cocktails with a beautiful sunset behind it.
We went out drinking this weekend with a bunch of couples and whilst it was nice to be out (child free) it wasn't the best day ever (early bar). We had some laughs, but when I looked at the pics that I was inundated with, I thought 'was I at the same place as these people?'
Am I getting old? Am I a complete mardy arse for thinking this way? Or was I so smashed that I didn't realise that I was having so much fun?
I hope I'm not past it???!!! Tell me I'm not alone.

There have always been some people who expect everyone else to find their lives as interesting as they do themselves. Younger MNers probably don't remember the Viewing Of Holiday Slides, when your most self-obsessed relatives or neighbours would pin a sheet to the wall and project about 300 out of focus pictures of themselves on a beach that you had to admire...

I put a few pics on FB if DS and I have been somewhere interesting, partly for the relatives to see (his grandmother and aunts and uncles like seeing how he's doing) partly if I think there's anything that will amuse or please anyone else, and partly as a handy way of looking back a year or two later at what we were doing.

DiegoMadonna I was just thinking that. We went to the Guns n roses concert this summer. It was awesome! We had lots of photos of us beforehand, looking extremely excited (once in a lifetime gig for us) but once they came on that was it. Phones away to enjoy the gig. Otherwise you spend so much time looking at your phone for the video or pictures you forget to enjoy the gig! All you remember is what you recorded or photographed.

I use it mainly to follow news these days

I basically have everyone on FB hidden now, and just use it to follow news websites, blogs on my interests, etc. It's a good aggregator for all that stuff.

All my close friends and family (i.e. the people I actually care about) converse and share life updates and photos on whatsapp groups these days anyway.

Thank you, I loved reading all your replies. I guess this must is how life is nowadays, social media has become so much a part of every day life, that of course we use it to document the things we do, see, eat etc. I'll pull my big girl pants on and stop whinging ing.

I can’t stand face book - I’m really reserved and keep myself to myself - but I can totally see why it appeals to some folk. I just don’t use it. Although I can’t be arsed with social media in general. To be it represents the fickle nature of people but again I’m just projecting my own perceptions. Each to their own.
