to ask about food shortages/price increases

I've seen a lot this week about potential food shortages and price increases post Brexit and it has got me wondering which items we would see shortages on first.

We are quite a prepared family, we are already growing some of our food and have stocks for our camper and bad weather but probably max 3-4 months provisions stored.

We have taken our chest freezer out of storage and plan to freeze meats and fish and perhaps cheese.

But apart from that, I am clueless as to what we could possibly see shortages on. Is there anything you would stock up on?
I have family who have worked in Venezuela and whilst I can't see exactly the same circumstances happening here, it terrifies me what those poor people are having to go through to put a very, very basic meal on the table.

Loo roll, medicines, toiletries esp bar soap, household goods/hygiene products. Have an encyclopedia on herbal remedies/plant medicine, things like onion syrup are good for coughs for eg. Camping toilets apparently are one of the first things to sell out in shortages.

I'd have thought the first things we'd run short of would be precisely those that are most difficult to store long term - fresh foods that can't preserved by freezing, canning, etc. Like brie and camembert.

May God have mercy on us all. 😭

Why haven't you started this thread in preppers?

hidinginthenightgarden · 21/10/2017 16:39

Why loo roll and soap? These things are made here in the UK (in the town my parents live in). Is it the ingredients?

BriechonCheese · 21/10/2017 16:56

Because no one posts there Through and lots of people don't even know it exists. I want more people to discuss it than those who already have the notion to prep in their mind.

I've actually been stocking up on loo roll for the last year or so Grin because of the relative in Venezuela mentioning that one being the first to disappear/have a premium attached to them. My son is disabled, so I have stashed around 6-7 months of his drugs and hygiene products, I'm aiming for a years worth of supply.

I know lots of people say "well we will all just eat seasonally" but most people don't grow f&v and I read somewhere there are 45million acres of farm land and 67million people to feed. So if something isn't negotiated soon then we could be up shit creek without a tin of green beans in a few months.
