Just read another thread about earnings. How old are you and what do you earn? I'm nosey!!

OP posts:
Ta1kinPeece · 26/10/2017 20:03

I'm loving the state of denial and self delusion among the high earners on this thread.

The fact that you choose to spend shed loads of money on houses and schools and nannies is a CHOICE
a CHOICE that you made
BECAUSE YOU ARE IN THE TOP 10% OF EARNERS

Poor people cope with the state school in their area
they juggle parents and latchkeys
they rent overcrowded houses
and in London there are MILLIONS of them.

Has the Grenfell Tower been erased from your memory by the number of spa days you find time for Hmm

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 26/10/2017 21:33

Littlechous why did you add faceBlush after discussing income?
if it’s legal and fairly earned what’s the issue?why would you be embarrassed

PinkSnowAndStars · 26/10/2017 21:57

30 years old and about 23K a year

notanewuser · 26/10/2017 21:59

I earn 1 TREEEEEELLLION DOLLARS

Well i will when my magma cannon threatens the whitehouse and they pay up

starzig · 26/10/2017 22:04

42 and ca. 27k

starzig · 26/10/2017 22:05

Why are people so uptight about their earnings? Just don't get the whole secrecy thing.

Neverender · 26/10/2017 22:13

DH is on 35k and I’m on 60k. But I’m five years older than him. And have worked my flipping arse off (not that anyone else hasn’t)!

Nofunkingworriesmate · 26/10/2017 22:13

43 29k been teaching 20 years, gosh I'm jealous now

redmarkone · 26/10/2017 22:17

im 38 and earn 18k for 0.65 of a week. not great but felt ok about until i came on here. partners salary is 5 times mine and more depending on bonus. ive got several degrees and masters qualifications but have personal barriers which have limited me at work.

HarHer · 27/10/2017 16:57

I don't have to earn. My husband keeps me and I'm waiting to inherit.

Grilledaubergines · 27/10/2017 17:25

I’m a teensy bit over 40 and earn around £34.000 P.A. I’m in the south east. Shoe size 5, hate parsnips, love brie. Favourite colour is emerald green.

Grilledaubergines · 27/10/2017 17:27

Ooh Little is he a footballer? If he’s Wayne Rooney, ditch the fucker!!

YoloSwaggins · 27/10/2017 17:30

I'm 24 and earn 31k

reetgood · 27/10/2017 17:36

37 and I earn £18k a year. Run small arts business. they say the only way to make a small fortune in theatre is to start with a large one :) partner earns less than me.

We live in the north and have low outgoings but a nice quality of life.

YoloSwaggins · 27/10/2017 18:34

Oh and I do pharmaceutical stats, after a maths degree.

All my friends are on 40k+ now in banking and consulting in London, but then they have to stay till 8pm and spend all their money on work drinks whereas I go home at half 4 and watch TV. I just prefer a stress-free life 😁

No car, no debt, cheap rent, thrifty AF (buy everything in charity shops), don't go out loads so I'm saving over 1k a month atm.

sailorcherries · 27/10/2017 20:26

23 and on £28k, I have 4 more years of consecutive pay rises and by the time I'm 27 I'll be earning as much as I will at 57, unless I apply for promotion and become removed from my actual job (classroom teacher). I enjoy the physical teaching and becoming a depute or head won't allow that.

For this reason, and a lot of others, I'm looking at grad jobs and other private sector careers with more progression.

littlechous · 27/10/2017 20:43

Haha Grilled yes he is actually, not Wayne Rooney or anywhere near that well paid thank goodness 😁

Backt0Black · 27/10/2017 20:48

in real life around £80k, 37yrs old. Currently - £140 a week mat pay.... but its taught me not to be so bloody stupid and wasteful.

buddy79 · 27/10/2017 21:08

Wish I hadn’t read this thread (!) but now I’m here-
37yrs.
Before kids £28k social services.
After baby moved to less stressful role in charity part time I earn £16k for 28 hours.
DH 37yrs earns £35k.

For this thread it’s a pittance, but nationally I think we’re above average.

We get by without too much stress.

Lucky to have got on housing ladder a few years ago. My pay is not ideal, but, I genuinely enjoy my job, good hours, location and benefits, plus my mental health and confidence are a million times better.
Options still open to return to professional level when kids older.
I’m happy.

Want2bSupermum · 27/10/2017 21:54

lavender please listen to wishing. Take the emotion out of it. Go in and ask for formal recognition of the responsibility you have in your role and the pay level to reflect that. You need to do some research and look at pay bands if those apply to your field and ask to move to pay band x, which should be above the pay band the other employee is on.

Just remember you shouldn't be ashamed to ask for more money. Men get because they ask. Women don't ask so don't get. It's a conditioning.

I've nearly always been paid more than my peers because I have neigotiated it. It's quite simple really. More responsibility = more pay.
