Life lessons - what are yours?

What are your most important life lessons? These could be, for example, things that you've read or heard that have really resonated with you.

(I've recently discovered the 'thought for the day' whiteboard by the Tube at Paddington station, which has definitely inspired some of my life lessons :) )

Mine so far are:

• time is the currency of life
• aim before you shoot/look before you leap
• if you always do the same thing, you'll always get the same result
• learn how to recognise and work on my own weaknesses.

Money is made flat to pile, not round to go round.

Definitely 'pick your battles' , saved me a lot of arse ache with my lot.
If you're worrying that you're a bad mum, you probably aren't one.

Never wake a sleeping baby

Kill everyone with kindness. I work in a Reception class and it's my motto there; I've never had a child come in who couldn't be reached with an absolute barrel of kindness.

I'd like to pretend I am only ever kind-Mary-Poppins to my own DC but I lost my shit yesterday for leaving a shoe in a service station on the M6. Killing with kindness does not apply on long journeys.

People will take you at your own valuation

The decision whom to have children with is probably the most important decision of your life

Enjoy being young - it is great

Wealth may not bring happiness but poverty is grindingly, exhaustingly difficult and horrible.

Everyone has some trouble or sorrow or sadness.

If you can't tell about it, you probably shouldn't do it.

You can't please everyone, so don't try.
