Helmans mayonnaise

AIBU or have they changed the recipe? This used to be my favourite condiment. I'd have it on anything and everything. Now I've noticed a jar lasts months rather than A month. A quick Google finds that other Hellman mayo fans have noticed a change for the worse too, but the company deny making any changes. Am I going mad?

To get the original recipe for many changed products I would pay a lot more to be happy.

I was wondering why I wasn't getting any joy from the mayo recently.

Anyone who can invent the original Cadburys can have my money.

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 18/10/2017 12:08

Appears they have also changed the spelling...

humanGnomeProject · 18/10/2017 12:27

Are you too good for salad cream? Smile

If I have mayonnaise I make my own. It's about twice a year and 100x better than anything shop-bought.

I get through a vaguely worrying amount of Heinz salad cream though.

PolkaDottyRose · 18/10/2017 12:34

I love salad cream too..but it can't replace mayo in everything.

humanGnomeProject · 18/10/2017 12:40

ummm ...yes it can polka.

I can't think of a single mayo use that isn't made better by salad cream.

PolkaDottyRose · 18/10/2017 13:10

Coleslaw made exclusively with salad cream would be too much..coleslaw made with Hellmans and a dash of salad cream is food of the gods!

Erm egg mayo?? Hmm

Uokbing · 18/10/2017 13:33

This thread has reminded me of when I went travelling to Australia with my friend and we brought some squeezy mayo from Woolworths (I think it was next to the 'Coon' cheese!).

I shit you not it was exactly like semen (in everything but taste although it might as well have been, it was horrid). We spent an entire evening lamenting our favourite British food products!

I love Helmand.

Uokbing · 18/10/2017 13:34

Helmans not Helmand!

LurkingHusband · 18/10/2017 13:36

Erm egg mayo??

Well if it's going to be called "Egg Mayo", obviously Confused.

However a proper "Egg sandwich" would be made boiled eggs mashed into salad cream with a pinch of salt, pepper, and cayenne papper. No cress (naturally Smile).

(dons flak jacket ....)

humanGnomeProject · 18/10/2017 13:58

Egg mayo's better with salad cream. It needs the acidity or it's a bland mush.

I used to get my Mum to send me mayo when I lived in Australia, the stuff they sell there is revolting, indeed semeny with added sugar HmmConfused

showing my age

@RosyfingeredDawn

I was there for that recording!!!

PolaDeVeboise · 18/10/2017 14:17

I always found Heinz mayo too sweet - have they change the recipe of that too? Also, Hellmans was always lower in carbs

LurkingHusband · 18/10/2017 14:30

Speaking of Hellmanns, does anyone remember a range of "Deli Sauces" they used to do about 15 years ago ? They were trialled with free samples at supermarket delis.

MrsLH still raves about the "Spring onion" one ...

WishfulThanking · 18/10/2017 15:06

I would definitely pay more to have the lush taste back. It is always on offer in Tesco and I thought the price was incredible value. £2 for a massive tub.

And to whoever it was that criticised my spelling, I hope you feel better about yourself after that dig at my typo Hmm Angry

BEST STORE BOUGHT MAYONNAISE OF ALL TIME:

Stokes Real Mayonnaise

www.stokessauces.co.uk/product/mayonnaise/real-mayonnaise

It is absolutely delicious. Tastes like home made mayo and leaves even the original Helman's in the dust.

The downside of it is that once it is opened you need to use it comparatively quickly but the taste is awesome.

The sell it in my local Waitrose but don't know if it's generally in supermarkets.

Highly recommend.

And don't get me started on Stokes Dill and Mustard Sauce which I could eat with a spoon.

Floralnomad · 18/10/2017 23:14

We've also swopped to Heinz , I don't like salad cream , love mayo .

Hippiechic · 19/10/2017 07:25

I think the squeeze one tastes very different to the jar. I love the mayo in the jar but the squeeze one is very bland.
