Would you say it's somewhere to ask questions, socialize, share news, voice concerns, or something else?

I don't really understand people who get offended by comments on the internet tbh.

I couldn't give a stuff if someone was 'snarky' with me or not.

It's mostly entertainment and chat for me as I don't use the site for advice very often, if at all.

You have to be thick-skinned about the snarky replies imo - remember it's not actually personal, they don't know you or anything about you. Brush them off as saying more about where they are that day, than being anything to do with you.

I must admit that I also get a bit when a poster says, "this has really upset me and I'm sitting here in tears now" as well.

Of course it's not great to know that something you've said or someone else has said has caused hurt feelings or genuine offence....but at the same time, it's a bit naive to imagine that strangers on the internet are going to hold back in their opinions and spare your feelings. If that's what you want, speak to people who know and like you. It's not going to happen here.

Its whatever you want it to be and you can post as much as you like. As with life, there are nice, smart and funny people and then there are the arseholes and trolls. It is best to try and avoid the latter, although that is becoming increasingly difficult

I also joins when I was pregnant ( ds is now 12) and I got lots of good advice so keep posting

Well I guess everyone is different in how they deal with online comments. We aren't all thick skinned.

Cleared up that I'm using it correctly though, to seek support and have a chat (particularly at work it would seem lol) ... As I was genuinely beginning to wonder 😂

For those at work do you have the luxary of having it on PC or are you "allowed" your phones? When I was at work we had a no phone policy and school like security on the PCs so I was hardly ever on!

I've been registered for about a year and even I've noticed a increase of people just being arsey simply because they can. I wonder if it's bored people with little else to do except pick fights online!

I've learned a lot from mumsnet, I've been here over 16 years, I don't always follow the same sorts of threads - my DC is a teenager now so I'm not that bothered in all the angst over breast vs bottle/nursery schools/weaning etc etc ................. I enjoy reading other people's views, it has certainly helped me be a lot less judgmental.

Certain threads I avoid, but generally it's just great entertainment and good to 'talk' about issues that I wouldn't necessarily discuss in RL.

But I do think some people take it far too seriously, it's only words on a screen.

I don't like it if people 'tag' me, a journalist approached me for a comment yesterday which I thought was a damn cheek.

I've been on it for many years and IMO it's much more civilised now than it was. MN HQ seems to have got it together where the trolls are concerned.
