As aptly dubbed by his own Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson.

Old thread:

And as I love giving you images to haunt your dreams, here’s another one, blasphemously titled ‘Our Lord and Saviour’.

I think that HRC’s day is done, Claws. Trump can’t let her go but that’s his problem to deal with.

Lweji · 22/10/2017 03:10

The Guardian’s round-up of the last week of Trump.

If only... Wink

OuaisMaisBon · 22/10/2017 06:36

HRC acknowledges her day is done, I think, cozietoesie, but I, for one, am glad that she is taking time to reply to some of Trump's most egregious tweets in ways he can't answer. Her intelligence shines through, particularly, obviously, when compared to the nitwit currently in place.
I find it interesting that Bernie Sanders does NOT think his day is over.
What do you all think, if I may digress from the main man?
Aaaaand - I still see no end to this mire of despond, it is the same mistake as Brexit, politicians assuming that voters could not be so idiotic as to put their own country in such shit by electing Trump/voting to leave the UK and therefore not pointing out how bad the alternative would be. If you see what I mean.

Roussette · 22/10/2017 07:43

This is appalling, really it is. I can't imagine what it would be liked to be a grieving widow or mother and have a letter rushed through as a kneejerk reaction. I think I'd chuck it in the bin

www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/10/donald-trump-is-rush-shipping-condolences-to-military-families/543606/?utm_source=twb

Lweji · 22/10/2017 09:03

No letter created by Trump will be sensitive, kind or thought out. So, whatever the letter, I would pay very little attention to it.
A good letter won't have been written by him.

On Hillary, she may decide that her days in active elected politics are over.
However, I think it's important that people hear her voice. More than 50% of US voters voted for her and those people should be heard, including via her.
It's a good time for her to speak out, as it doesn't seem so much like a sore loser, nor attempts to overthrow the results.
Trump has also had his opportunity to be President.
It's not only her speaking out. Obama and Bush are too.
The Don has been given his opportunity, I do think this is the time to be assessed and called on what he's done and plans on doing.
Damage control can still be achieved, and the honeymoon period is over.

Officials behind the now discredited "Dossier" plead the Fifth. Justice Department and/or FBI should immediately release who paid for it.

1/ This tweet is the first time in weeks that Trump has tweeted something that could interfere with Mueller's investigation.
2/ We've heard from multiple reports that Mueller has interviewed the author of the dossier and is investigating its contents.
3/ Trump essentially called for the DOJ and FBI to release information pertinent to the investigation now.
4/ If that happened, it could undermine Mueller and could violate the law if knowledge of who paid for it was obtained via the grand jury.
5/ The obvious question Mueller will ask: Why is the President of the United States so motivated to find out who paid for the dossier?
6/ The person who paid doesn't matter legally. Mueller couldn't use the dossier as evidence. He would need to find witnesses and documents.
7/ Mueller could only use whatever he could prove via witnesses with personal knowledge or documents he could authenticate.
8/ Ironically, Trump might make the dossier more relevant now because it could be a motivation for him to shut down the investigation.
9/ The tweet could be used by Mueller to show that Trump is fixated on the dossier and concerned about its contents. /end

And separately from yesterday (no real new information I think but a useful reminder of the outrageous extent that nunes is flaunting his “recusal”)

1/ Now Republicans are trying to use federal law to take away state constitutional rights.
2/ Illinois @GovRauner is trying to get Congress to pass a law that would take away the Illinois Constitutional right to keep your pension.
3/ Due to the supremacy clause of the constitution, Congress and Trump could try to undo a state constitutional right without an amendment.
4/ Can you imagine working your whole life for a pension you thought was guaranteed and then have it reduced after retirement?
5/ That shouldn’t be lawful. If we don’t stop this, what rights could they take away next? /end

Reaction to his invite to speak at the opening night of the Convention was not, shall we say, overwhelmingly positive.

I think HRC & Bernie are both unelectable at this point. HRC due to being defeated twice and Bernie (unfortunately) because of his age. He'd be (IIRC) 79 when he took office and would turn 80 eight months later. Unfortunately many of the Dem 'Great Statespeople' are up there in years. They need to be looking around for someone with experience, gravitas, and no skeletons lurking currently in his/her late 40s to mid-50s (cough Gavin Newsom cough).
