I'm always telling myself I need to drink more water and I'm sure I'm not alone. Some of you may have cracked it, some of you may not.

So please share your top tips on getting through your daily water quota!

I found leaving a big glass of water in a place u walk past frequently at home and taking a few mouthfuls each time u pass really helped me.

Greenleaf54321 · 14/10/2017 21:18

I know ideally you should sip frequently throughout the day

piffle. what on earth makes you think that? advertising by the bottled water industry, that's what! ignore them, they are only out to make a profit, and are having a devastating affect on the environment. don't give them head space.

limitedperiodonly · 14/10/2017 21:25

Get a glass of water. When empty, get another one. Repeat. Go home

kaytee87 · 14/10/2017 21:28

I just have a glass of water when I'm thirsty.... probably about 3 pints of plain water a day and a couple of cups of tea.

limitedperiodonly · 14/10/2017 21:29

Although I am wondering about weeing in a cup like OP suggested and keeping the specimens on the shelf from straw to sunflower.

What do you think OP?

Greenleaf54321 · 14/10/2017 21:31

I found leaving a big glass of water in a place u walk past frequently at home and taking a few mouthfuls each time u pass really helped me.

helped you what, exactly??

all these people struggling to satisfy a gimmicky "quota" invented by big international companies for not other reason than profit.

have you heard of disease mongering? When pharmaceutical companies invent or latch onto and exaggerate a medical condition in order to sell the "remedy"

That is exactly the con that these big multinational bottled water companies are playing on you. Its clever because it "permits" their captive audience to act with infantile self absorption, which we are all naturally inclined to do anyway, and tend towards wishing we could do more. Just listen to all of you focusing on the colour of your urine and the depth of the wrinkles on your face!It just beggars beleif that some people take this all so seriously.

EggysMom · 14/10/2017 21:38

I loved the suggestion of that was effectively: get up - drink half pint - eat breakfast - drink another half pint - go to work ...

How does that person go to work? Grin

Get up - drink half pint - eat breakfast - drink another half pint - do the wriggle dance on the train platform - realise the train has no toilet - sit on seat (if you're lucky) crossing your legs ever tighter - walk stupidly fast at the other end from station to office - dive into first toilet you pass in the office ....

ILoveUsernames · 14/10/2017 21:48

Hmmmm... let's see. How about opening your mouth and tipping water into it? Shook, I know.

MummaTwinkleToes · 14/10/2017 21:55

Greenleaf54321 It helped me remember that I also needed a drink and not just the kids.
Some people like myself don't feel thirsty that often so need to put more effort into getting a drink.
Also with a toddler and newborn having a drink on hand that you can grab in transit with minimal effort is sensible. Smile

Greenleaf54321 · 14/10/2017 21:57

Some people like myself don't feel thirsty that often so need to put more effort into getting a drink.

eeeerrr, if you don't feel thirsty, then yo are not thirsty! no effort and no drink needed!

GonnaDrinkWater · 14/10/2017 22:07

That's the thing. I never feel thirsty. I don't like plain water and I don't drink tea or coffee. But I do suffer from headaches and a couple of other symptoms that are apparently caused by dehydration.

I really can't be arsed explaining myself to a load of sarcastic moaners. If you're not interested in the topic, scroll on. Hanging around to take the piss out of people who are offering advice says a lot more about you than it does about us.

To everyone else with helpful suggestions, thank you! I've got a large jug, a couple of lemons, and already I feel better for having a few extra glasses of water.

Just because you don't feel thirsty doesn't mean you don't need a drink. OP asked for tips.

Greenleaf54321 · 14/10/2017 22:16

If you're not interested in the topic, scroll on. Hanging around to take the piss out of people who are offering advice says a lot more about you than it does about us. I am very interested in the topic. I am particularly interested in the tenacity of the myth, and the way you all confirm each others delusions. Its fascinating. I am a scientist so observing the process of fabricating and propagating pseudoscientific falsehoods through the medium of advertising is very informative to me. It shows how easy it is to deceive, and how people can consider themselves so well informed when they are speaking total and utter nonsense. It illustrates very well how powerful false information in the media is, as opposed to actual education or scientific fact.

Greenleaf54321 · 14/10/2017 22:18

Just because you don't feel thirsty doesn't mean you don't need a drink

basically, yes it does. How do you think the feeling of thirst developed, and for what purpose?

In the UK more people die of over dosing on water than die of dehydration.

Greenleaf54321 · 14/10/2017 22:19

There are a few medical conditions that would indicate the advise to drink more, but not more water.

GonnaDrinkWater · 14/10/2017 22:25

All be said is that I know I don't drink enough water because I suffer the symptoms of dehydration. And I asked for tips on incorporating good habits to increase my water intake throughout the day.

If you want to insult me as being delusional and speaking nonsense you can jog on. I've never bought bottled water or succumbed to advertising hype, not that that has anything to do with my initial question.

OP posts:
CoffeeBreakIn5 · 14/10/2017 23:03

So much sarcasm on here - but also a few things to think about for me...

I drink tea and coffee all day, probably about 5 or 6 cups. I never drink water and I'm always been moaned at by people in my department about how tea and coffee is really bad for me. So is it? Should I be drinking water too, or will this kill me? Should I replace the tea and coffee with water or does it not matter? I had no idea there was anything damaging about drinking loads of water and always presumed my kidneys would be destroyed by tea and coffee.

This too sounds sarcastic but I'm being serious.

GonnaDrinkWater · 14/10/2017 23:15

I have heard of people dying from drinking too much water. There was a young woman a few years ago doing a very low calorie diet and because the normal fluid intake was lower due to her not eating regular food, she went out of her way to drink something like 4 litres of water, but she hadn't throughout the day and downed it all in the evening. I'm not sure why or how it kills you, but too much too soon definitely can.

That particular dieting company then changed its advice from 'drink 2l a day' to 'drink to satisfy your thirst'.

Greenleaf54321 · 14/10/2017 23:42

no, a cup of tea is better for you than water.

Greenleaf54321 · 14/10/2017 23:43

sorry, that was to coffeabreak

LadyLoveYourWhat · 15/10/2017 00:30

I'm interested, OP, in what you think are signs of dehydration and why you think they are indicators.

GonnaDrinkWater · 15/10/2017 00:34

Headaches, tiredness, puffy bags under eyes, constipation.

OP posts:
GonnaDrinkWater · 15/10/2017 00:35

^^ Sorry, those are just my symptoms, not all symptoms

OP posts:
LadyLoveYourWhat · 15/10/2017 00:36

And why do you think they are due to dehydration?

GonnaDrinkWater · 15/10/2017 00:39

Because I drink hardly any water and they're listed as symptoms of dehydration
