I had my baby by c section four weeks ago in two days.

My postpartum bleeding stopped last week and I have had all the symptoms of a period this week and have started bleeding again with cramps, tender breasts etc- but I'm now passing tissuey type bits. Not large but numerous and frequently (more when I go to loo to wipe, change pad etc)
I didn't notice any tissue at all with postpartum bleeding.

I'm quite scared- is this normal?

Is that typical for your period? I always pass tissue and clots (sorry).

Nobody on the internet can say if it's okay. Call your MW or GP and get it checked out. Flowers

theancientmarinader · 13/10/2017 14:41

Do you have any other symptoms of infection? I would probably check it out tbh. My periods changed after pg (it is now my normal to have large 'clots' that I can feel exiting) but if this is more tissue based then I would go to the walk in and make sure.

I sometimes pass clots but I always thought they were supposed to be bloody?
I'm passing little lumps of tissue.

Will call GP. Thank you.

Speak to your GP. I passed bits of tissue after birth - quite different from period clots - and all was fine so not necessarily a problem. I think they checked the size of the "bits" though to make sure.

Speak to your GP or MW. I had this happen and it was connected to having had a ragged/incomplete placenta when second DC was born. It was utterly disgusting like big lumps of liver - bleugh. MW said as long as it didn't smell iffy, then it was probably ok and just part of the ragged bits finally coming out.

However, get it checked by a proper medical professional who really knows what they are talking about.

Oh, no, I pass both every month, blood clots and opaque bits of pinkish tissue. Sorry, it's a little gross.

AboutAGallonofDietCoke · 13/10/2017 15:02

Does it smell a bit off? I had this happen 18 days post partum. It was a bit smelly, took it in Tupperware to MAU it was retained membranes. I was given massive antibiotics and a scan.
Please call and go in - retained tissue is dangerous re infection. I left mine regardless of a bit of whiff as I didn’t want to make a fuss, I was told they were glad I came when I did.
I gave birth 18/9

I have exceptionally grim photos for comparison if you want I can pm them

Hi everyone.
I spoke to the GP and he said unless it gets particularly heavy or I feel unwell with a temperature it's probably nothing to worry about.

I'm quite surprised by the ferocity of the cramps in one side of my uterus though. I think I'd forgotten how horrible periods could be.

OP I had no temp but very bad cramps and needed a scan and antibiotics! Please call hospital labour ward for second opinion x
