I am adopting a cat from a lady who no longer wants him.

I have all her address etc and am going at 3pm. Have asked to change to 1pm and haven't got a reply in 4 days now.

Would it be ok to still turn up at 3pm?

He’s such a beautiful boy. I feel my eyes welling up looking into his sad ones. He looks so depressed. Please give him a big hug and kiss. He’s so beautiful and I can tell he will be an amazingly living cat. He looks very emotional which means he will bond to you as a familiar and give you all his love.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/10/2017 16:49

I agree with others that he looks depressed. He's a very handsome cat, though - once he realises that you are going to love and cherish himI'm sure he will be much happier.

People think that cats are callous and don't give a damn, but most of them are very sensitive and know when they aren't loved or wanted.

Hop you have many happy years together (I don't know if you are an experienced cat owner, but if not, can I recommend that you don't let him out for a week or so, so that he realises he lives with you now and doesn't;t try to get back to his previous owner's home.)

She recently got a new puppy and says that they don't get on as they are both scared of each other... Can't believe she picked the one she got after to keep Sad no idea how old he is as she "doesn't know really" and he's called Phoenix. I think I'll keep it as I think he knows it?

The vet should be able to give you an approx age, I think. Phoenix is a lovely name.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 12/10/2017 16:53

Oh poor little guy looks really sad 😔. Bless him, he clearly is in need of a lot of tlc and a lot of fuss.

What’s his name?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/10/2017 16:54

I agree with you - if it had been necessary I would have re-homed the animal that was newest in the house. No way wouldI let an established pet be ousted by a new one.

I wonder how much time she gave them to get to know each other? It takes a while to introduce a new animal a cat. Dogs are usually more acommodating. They do need time though - I bet she hasn't had the puppy five minutes (and has let it make a pest of itself with the cat!)

He's lucky to have landed on his paws with you.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 12/10/2017 16:54

X-post - Phoenix is a good name with those eyes!

AllToadsLeadToHome · 12/10/2017 16:54

It is a good name, he will live through a new life cycle with you.

People do that so often, get a new pet or have a baby and the poor cat has to go.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/10/2017 16:55

(And what's the odds she ends up re-homing the dog in a year?)

Oxcheeks · 12/10/2017 17:04

Aww, he's gorgeous I hope that he settles in with you quickly

PosiePootlePerkins · 12/10/2017 17:09

kali110 · 12/10/2017 17:10

He looks so sad Sad
Unfortunately people do pick new 'cuter' animals over their older ones Sad Angry

What a gorgeous boy - I hope he settles in quickly, but don't worry if he takes a while. It took our oldest, who we took aged three, weeks to settle in but he's been a gregarious little ball of fur ever since.

He was also rehomed, but by a woman who loved him enormously but who had to move into rented accommodation, I think after a relationship ended, and couldn't keep him. It was heart-breaking - she cried and cried when she left him at ours (she insisted on bringing him to check our home was suitable - again, very different to yours and rather more responsible!) and I had to send her reassuring texts for weeks. So while it's horrible that they seemed to care so little about your gorgeous boy, at least you were spared an emotional ordeal!

notreallythere · 12/10/2017 17:13

Poor thing! Give him some Dreamies from us Smile

LEMtheoriginal · 12/10/2017 17:14

Omg look at his face - I love cats. I can't have one as my dp is allergic but I work with them and that's the next best thing.

problembottom · 12/10/2017 17:16

He is beautiful. I hope you spoil him rotten and make sure the rest of his life is a happy and secure one.

I will never understand anyone who simply doesn't want their pet any more. Celebrities are rife for it (the Kardashians have an endless stream of cute pups who last about a year). Twats.

LifeIsLikeTetris · 12/10/2017 17:19

He's beautiful and so good that he'll now be in a home where he'll be loved and appreciated.

KitKat1985 · 12/10/2017 17:21

Oh he's gorgeous. Smile

SatansLittleHelper2 · 12/10/2017 17:22

Oh I can't cope, he just looks so sad 😔😭😭😭

VeganCow · 12/10/2017 17:23

he is beautiful, is he brown, or is he black but the lighting made him lighter in colour?

blanklook · 12/10/2017 17:24

So pleased he's with you now OP, he looks so sad, I know you'll love the sadness away for him.

Dreams16 · 12/10/2017 17:24

He is lovely looking very pretty cat

Ilikethai · 12/10/2017 17:25

PolkaDottyOvenGlove · 12/10/2017 17:28
