I've been ill all evening. Headache, stomach cramps etc. Have they advertised this change? Have they fuck.

So, if like me you're allergic to the stuff and think lucozade is on your safe list, it isn't.
Bastards.

@MadForlt I spend far too much time reading news and social media and I didn't know a thing about it. Judging by responses to this thread it passed a lot of others by too.

Have you Googled it? You will see loads of news articles.

Really don't know how you missed it.

Kelsoooo · 21/10/2017 11:24

It's all because of the sugar tax
And lucozade sales have dropped so epically they will eventually move to Stevia I'm sure...because the new taste is what's driving customers away.

expatinscotland · 21/10/2017 11:27

People wanted the fucking 'sugar tax'. Well, you reap what you sow.

kali110 · 21/10/2017 11:37

Think this is awful for diabetics and should not have been changed.
I hate stevia though and have no problem with the other.

ManicUnicorn · 21/10/2017 11:38

Aspartame is awful. I can't eat or drink anything with it in because it really sets off my IBS, and I know quite a few other people who are the same so it must be a common sensitivity to have. I can't believe its not banned.

Nothing tastes the same anymore does it? Why do the powers that be need to police what we eat and drink so much?

raffle · 21/10/2017 11:42

There were posters up in our hospital and the GP surgery explaining about the changes to sugar content in Lucozade.

These were the only places I saw it advertised tho.

babba2014 · 21/10/2017 11:44

I don't think they advertised it but many months back there was a uproar on behalf of the diabetic community.

Oblomov17 · 21/10/2017 11:44

I know!

I’m absolutely gutted SadAngry

there is a big thing all over the Internet and Facebook.

I am a type one diabetic and Lucozade has been my stable hypo recovery for the last 45 years. and now recently they’ve changed the recipe and I’m just so cross because it has affected my diabetes.

ChilliMary · 21/10/2017 11:55

I very occasionally have Lucozade, a rare treat. Had it a few weeks and couldn't believe how bad it tasted. The sweetner has ruined the taste badly. Yuk!!!

Will never drink this again, such a shame.

Tiredofbeingsotired · 21/10/2017 12:08

Ironically I used to use Lukozade after a migraine, but flipping aspartame sets them off. Glad I saw this here!

Dangermouse80 · 21/10/2017 12:39

Lucozade used to be my go to drink when ill, not anymore. Aspartame is far worse than sugar. I hate the fact it is in all the kids drinks. It is a known bladder irritant.

GhostsInSnow · 06/11/2017 23:34

According to an article yesterday sales have fallen

www.mirror.co.uk/news/business/lucozade-sales-plummet-after-brand-11468144

Lucozade statement still reads very much "la la la not listening"

SomethingOnce · 07/11/2017 02:12

Stevia is as bad as aspartame taste-wise.

I liked the taste of proper Lucozade but suspect the ponceau 4R fucks me up a bit.

CottonEyeJosephine · 07/11/2017 06:42

I’ve seen a fair bit of publicity about it, but I’m a type 1 diabetic so have had notices from the hospital etc. Obviously there are other options to treat a hypo, but so many drink manufacturers are reducing the sugar content in their products thatnits now becoming quite a job to find something carby enough. I wouldn’t mind so much if it were based on actual health concerns, but it seems more about jumping on the ‘reduce sugar’ bandwagon and chucking a load of sweetness at the products rather than any real attempt to improve health impacts.

Elefant1 · 07/11/2017 07:41

Sorry a bit off topic but does anyone know of a brand of squash that is sugar free but does not contain aspartame? I have IBS and am wondering if it affects me but as I don't like tea or coffee I drink hot squash all the time.

GhostsInSnow · 07/11/2017 11:16

@Elefant1 I drink squash too now. Ribena is ok, as is a lot Robinsons now too. I treat myself to the expensive glass bottled Cherry cordial Tesco sells occasionally as well, thats amazing.

I think this is also why the glucose tolerance tests on pregnancy have changed too. Used to get given lucozade to drink but now they've changed the recipe it doesn't have the same affect on blood glucose levels so now you get a different substance to drink.

pastabest · 07/11/2017 11:56

I've just checked the back of the sugar free vimto we have and I can't see aspartame in it.

I don't drink anything with it in (I don't drink fruit juice either though) as I hate the taste.

Knew lucozade tasted funny the other day when I had some after a sickness bug!
