I have recently done some work for an asset management company - my side of it is contract and not financial.

However - one member of their team, during drinks after a long day in the office proceeded to get massively coked up and told me and another woman, as 'non-office based' temporary contractors that despite him handling sensitive financial information and being in a position of trust:

-he claimed the equivalent of jsa in his home country (begins with Ire) for 2 years while working full time in London. This was about 7 years ago and he flew home once every couple of weeks to claim it
-that he had travelled to the US on a greencard obtained under false pretences instead of getting a J1 visa several times

I believe every bit of what he said and think he expected us to be impressed. He seemed to me a massively dodgy character and something about him deeply unsettled me. I feel like if he was investigated a lot more than this would be uncovered. My instinct tells me he should not be in a position of trust.

Who / should I report this to? Or should I just leave him to get on with it with his fraudulently obtained jsa in the bank still probably?

Intersting. I admit I personally disliked him and was actually disturbed by him, not sure why. Just something about him and I hope I never have to work with him again.

I am confident what he said is true - that is WHY I am so shocked. My mum is Irish so the people implying I am accusing him of being a rogue for this reason - fail.

I'm not going to give any more details here now because I have decided to report it. Purely because I think this is the tip of the iceberg and I know people who trust his company with money - I think he needs to be checked out for their sake alone.

Re greencard - his family applied for greencards when he was a child and got them but never actually moved. I don't know how he managed to get away with it but based on actual photos he showed us he 100% did and this is what is so crazy. He said re the dole that the money came in handy even though he was earning in London.

And yes, again, if I liked him maybe I wouldn't do it. But based on how he was talking about his partners I'm sure some karma in the universe was coming his way.

I just wondered if I should do FCA report rather than directly to his company because I would prefer to be annonymous.

The coke thing I might mention but I'm not sure they would care about that as much.

Thanks for the advice

Oh and he kept the greencard and used it to avoid paying for J1 visas - he used to go for 3 months ar a time. I didn't believe him either but he definitely managed to pull it off - cannot even imagine what underhand deals he manages to pull off at work. Maybe they know what he's like and that's why he got the job, who knows!

Not sure why his height is relevant and why you keep mentioning it:
'Very short dodgy little guy'
'vile little man' ???

WednesdayAddamsthefirst · 09/10/2017 12:42

It's relevant because I disliked him - relevant to me - and he was so small that I noticed it because he was such a dick. Pretty sure that's all obvious.

I thinking its horrible to be making personal comments about his height though. Surely his height has nothing to do with anything.

Would it be ok for you to call him a 'very fat dodgy guy' or a 'vile fat man'??

WednesdayAddamsthefirst · 09/10/2017 13:01

Probably not ok to make comments about his appearance in a negative way, we all know that. But, how can I put this: I thought he was the biggest creep I ever met and so to me, he is the short dickhead. Accept it's rude of me to say, that is probably why I said it. I found him offensive. I understand it's rude what I wrote re his height.

HR or FCA. He's not a fit and proper person, however accurate his 'boasting' was.

PetraDelphiki · 09/10/2017 13:05

FCA definitely! If he's just bragging and it's false there won't be a problem, and if it's true he's definitely not a "fit and proper" person.
