To think cannabis should be legal?

Just came back from a week in Amsterdam.

I very occasionally smoke weed. It was just so nice to be able to sit outside, drink coffee and smoke with no judgment.

I saw hardly any police the entire time I wasn't there. Never felt unsafe.

That study is about teenagers who’s brains are still developing. It’s common sense that young teens smoking cannabis is not a good idea and will probably have a negative effect on developing brains in the same way alcohol does.

Which is why if it were legalised it would make it harder for kids to get a hold of it. As it stands dealers will sell to anyone who has the money to spend, they don’t care how old their customers are. If it were legal it would be age restricted, customers would require Id to buy it. Now obviously we all know some kids will find a way to get a hold of it somehow, much like they do with alcohol but it would be made significantly harder for them if it were legal and controlled. At the moment despite it being illegal there is no control over who can buy it and that is even more dangerous than legalising it IMO.

If it's legalized it would be a lot more accessible for young people though...

How do?

DeleteOrDecay · 10/10/2017 17:19

*so not do

QuackPorridgeBacon · 10/10/2017 17:24

Yh.. I don’t think it being legalised will make it more accessible to the younger ages, what kind of backwards thinking is that?

DaisyRaine90 · 10/10/2017 17:26

Of course 💨 and I don’t even smoke it 😂

Hereward1332 · 10/10/2017 17:33

So selling alcohol in supermarkets makes it harder for kids to get hold of than it being illegal? I'm not sure that I follow the logic that legalisation would make cannnabis less available to adolescents who are harmed by its use.

Well yes, since if you look under 18 (or 25 in many shops) they will ask you for Id. No Id, no sale. How many kids do you know who can just walk into a supermarket and buy a 6 pack so easily?

As it stands anyone can buy cannabis as long as they have the cash and know the right people.

Hereward1332 · 10/10/2017 17:46

So you're saying it's easier to buy a joint than a beer.

Clearly I'm out of touch.

DeleteOrDecay · 10/10/2017 17:51

For underage kids yes.

Something I've been wondering about the people who people know who's lives have been ruined/taken over etc by cannabis - if they couldn't get hold of cannabis at all, and never had, would their lives have been a bed of roses? Or would they just have used alcohol instead? Or some other thing, for that matter?

DaisyRaine90 · 10/10/2017 18:12

Drunkonether I imagine they would have found another way to “medicate” themselves. I’d rather be with a stoner than a drunk any day 😂

InTheRoseGarden · 10/10/2017 22:38

YABU for the reasons already mentioned above.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 11/10/2017 10:07

Why is it not a persons choice what to put into their own body? Mushrooms are legal f picked and eaten immediately so why is weed, which is a plant illegal? How can nature be made illegal? Poppy seeds are an opiate but they are allowed.

Imonlyfuckinghuman · 11/10/2017 10:54

quack it's not as simplistic as that. I think it would be fine if heron addicts or Coke heads, stoners, pissheads wanted to go some where quiet and quietly destroy themselves but it has an impact on the NHS, family ect.. it's not just about them really is it ?

DaisyRaine90 · 11/10/2017 12:18

I think there should be no question in anyone’s mind when it comes to medical use though 👌

DeleteOrDecay · 11/10/2017 12:24

But people are already using drugs and their usage is already impacting the NHS and other services (how much police money has been wasted on the ‘war on drugs’?). The war on drugs has failed those who want to use drugs will find a way to do so, criminalising those people doesn’t help anyone.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 11/10/2017 13:35

To be fair that is a fine point onlyhuman. Didn’t think that through, however smoking weed (bar the possibility of lung cancer and exposing mental health issues) does no damage and wouldn’t require the nhs, unlike alcohol for example.

we shouldn't conflate advocating for legalisation and advocating for use. I don't think people should use drugs, but I do think it should be legal. Regarding the prohibition of drugs, can anyone think of another policy that has been such a downright failure on its main objective? Anyone with any will can get drugs in our country, and I can't see more policing changing that.
