Harvey Weinstein

Rumours have been circulating about this disgusting man and his sleazy casting couch for years... He has offered a half-hearted apology, but seems rather smug about the fact that his family are supporting him.

AIBU to think his wife is misguided? What sort of example is she setting to her daughter? After all, this isn't a one-off - it is a pattern of serious abuse of women over decades.

Her article is very good - it's just the last paragraph that ruins it.

RhinosDontEatOatcakes · 15/10/2017 09:55

Mayim Biallik's article.

Anyone read Woody Allen’s comments on the BBC website on this? The fucking gall.

Stig Abell said on Twitter ‘Woody Allen in struggles to identify victim shock.’ following this bit-

“"The whole Harvey Weinstein thing is very sad for everybody involved," he added. "Tragic for the poor women that were involved, sad for Harvey that is life is so messed up.
"There's no winners in that, it's just very, very sad and tragic for those poor women that had to go through that."

Pretty much sums his comments up. And such a staggering lack of self awareness to boot.

I’m literally shaking my head reading the article. Angry

Re: Mayim Bialik’s article is awful. She’s basically calling them shiksas who had it coming because they are 10/10’s. It’s precisely being brought up with the shiksa mentality by their mums etc which makes these guys get away with it and think it’s okay.

My interpretation of the Corey Haim events was there were two men that caused the most damage. Corey was groomed and raped first by a high up older man. It was known among the child actors at the time that the two Coreys were passed around to be abused. During filming the young male actor realised how damaged Corey Haim was and used this to convince Haim that sex between male actors was the normal and they would fuck between trailers on set. It was around this time Haim tried to convince Feldman that they should sleep with each other, they didn't, presumably this is part of the grooming process, convincing the victim to become an abuser and so gaining their absolute silence. I think this young actor has been flagged up in particular as he took the abuse to a new level of damaging, if half the stuff you read about the now far from young actor is true he certainly likes extreme.

Yes poor Harvey finding someone attractive must be terribly difficult to deal with and wanting to have such power over those women gosh how did we overlook his tourment Angry

CaveMum · 15/10/2017 11:15

Actress Louise Brealey said this:

I think people are a little obsessed with the abuse of Corey Haim. Piecing it together like their very own soap opera. it would have been better for Corey Feldman to have said nothing than to have set people off on a finger pointing/amateur sleuthing game.

I think the poster earlier who said they reckoned Harvey Weinstein raped Corey Haim because google had told them so might want to think about having their post deleted.

Scaredycat3000 · 15/10/2017 11:35

I don't think there is any connection between this and the pedophile gangs other than general location, business and mutual silence. Sexual abuse/power/etc. exists in most communities regardless of faith, colour, creed, economic status, education levels, they are just more extreme in more extreme communities. You could link them all together person by person, in a six degrees of separation method, which means nothing really.

noblegiraffe · 15/10/2017 12:01

it would have been better for Corey Feldman to have said nothing

Wow. On a thread about why women didn't speak up, here we have someone saying it would have been better for child sexual abuse to have been swept under the carpet.

Corey Haim spoke about it himself.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 15/10/2017 12:08

Agree with noble

Garlicansapphire · 15/10/2017 12:24

Bananas, thanks for sharing the Lucy Prebble article - its very good. I have been shocked by the extent of Weinstein's actions and his liberty to get away with it unchallenged for so long. Men, actors and industry insiders, share the blame for their complicit silence in this. I feel certain that many more men in Hollywood and other industries are quaking in their boots right now - as least I hope they are. Using power to abuse and bully and shelving their humanity and humility in the most despicable way. Because they can without impunity.

I still believe we have a long way to go before women have equality and respect and freedom from such abuse. How depressing. I respect all of the women who have now spoken out. Equally I respect Corey Feldman for speaking out against his abuse and the young men in the film shared upthread - An open secret - who bravely shared their own experiences of a paedophile ring in the heart of Hollywood, and the pitiful sentences that were handed out to some of the perpetrators. Shameful.

Power corrupts.

The link is here - its one of the saddest films I've watched.

Corey Haim is an incredibly brave man. He spoke up, even though he knew it would ruin his career (which it has). Worse still, he's painted as a conspiracy nut job just for giving his truth! He deserves to be listened to.

Scaredycat3000 · 15/10/2017 13:12

Terf, Corey Haim lost his battle with life and died in 2010. Corey Feldman is trying to keep the pressure up, but, understandably, has a young family of his own to protect.

Terfing · 15/10/2017 13:26

Oh, pardon me, I got them confused. I did mean Corey Feldman (although I think Corey Haim spoke up too?)

They are both brave courageous men who are owed a lot of apologies for how they have been treated. I hope this scandal will bring them and many others justice.

SamanthaUnkim · 15/10/2017 15:22

I think there is a sick twist to this you are all missing.
Men like Weinstein seek power so they can do this stuff.

It's like the ultimate prize

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 15/10/2017 15:36

Just in - police in London are investigating 3 more sexual assault allegations against Weinstein

HadronCollider · 15/10/2017 15:39

3 more How many women did the bastard sexually assault fgs?! And this is just America and England so far right? I mean what about countries he went to for film festies, Cannes, Sundance etc etc?

It's horrific. It really is.

HadronCollider · 15/10/2017 15:55

I would like to see a proper independent enquiry of the film industry in the UK.

I would like to see similar in America, with CEOs, directors, actors/actresses along with supposed aiders and abetters, called up to answer questions and give testimony before a senate hearing.

I would like to see a national anonymous survey done in the UK Europe, and America of all large corporations in the tech, banking, music, modelling, publishing, law and science fields of sexual harassment to include 'low level' shite like being asked to get tea when it's not your job.

I would like a -forgotten what the word is - when you have to employ a certain amount of women to be put in place for all major large companies until representation of men and women in boardrooms, directorships and partnerships in all major industries is roughly equal. If that means some companies have to only employ women for the next few years to even it up then so be it.

I want all the women who have come forward, whose careers have been stifled because they refused to compromise themselves to be financially remunerated.

I want a public education program put in place to educate boys and girls on sexual harassment and abuse.

I want to not be reading shite like this in 10 years.

HadronCollider · 15/10/2017 15:57

positive discrimination, that's the word.

badbadhusky · 15/10/2017 16:04

But only if the women are actually women, as the Wachowskis and other late transitioning MTF who have benefitted earlier in their careers from male socialisation & advantage will otherwise crowd out the currently under-developed female talent in the industry.

gluteustothemaximus · 15/10/2017 16:50

HadronCollider 👏👏👏

DH has just said to me he cant help thinking that some are jumping on the bandwagon.

When my drama teacher humiliated me with inappropriate comments when i was 11 in drama class that was in front of a roomful of kids (upthread) i didnt report but neither did anyone else. It was 1984 At best i would have been told not to be silly and overreact At worst i would have been laughed at.

When the 56 year old family friend tried to get me to kiss him in his car (also upthread) i did tell my parents that same night.

Initially i got "you better not be lying" "you shouldnt have got in his car" but then my DF did concede and say "What is the matter with that stupid bastard."

Not being believed feels like a form of emotional abuse. DH has never not believed me though.

hollyisalovelyname · 15/10/2017 17:31

Wouldn't Harvey Weinstein's mother be so proud of him !

Not!!
