to actually respect Kim Catrall for this?

Kim Catrall is being criticised for not wanting to do Sex And The City 3 and has been very vocal on social media that she just didn't want to go back to the character.

Half the cast are publicly slagging her off for it and many 'fans' too.

She's 61! She's openly said she doesn't fancy playing that character again and I can't say I blame her - she also agreed that the last film was...not great.

I'm surprised at the vitriol being aimed at her for it. It's very un-sexandthecityish really.

What does everyone think?

*no 'why do you care?!' posts please 😁 I am a big SATC fan so I do care

Wtf would they put in satc 3??

Perhaps Samantha could have a third menopause seeing as she's already had a bonus one ?Grin

PovertyJetset · 05/10/2017 21:26

lucille ooooooh tell us MORE

MrsJayy · 05/10/2017 21:27

Yes Satc2 was blatantly racist i dunno how they got away with it.

MrsJayy · 05/10/2017 21:29

Found it!

mrsRosaPimento · 05/10/2017 21:39

I read that it was also because SJP wasn't very nice to her.

MaisieDotes · 05/10/2017 21:41

Even if there is any truth in the whole "she had demands" rumour, who says the demands were unreasonable?

I read that SJP had it in her contract from the start that she wouldn't do any nudity, and I don't think she would even do topless?? Afaic remember she was always shown wearing a bra even when shagging.

Poor old Samantha was tits out every five minutes. Maybe KC just didn't want to do that any more. Or didn't want to do certain sex scenes or say certain things. "Demands" makes it sound money related or like she wanted her own personal cruise liner staffed with unicorns or something, but not necessarily.

Ducknose · 05/10/2017 21:54

Can't blame her. She probably wishes she'd never agreed to the second one. Gob-smackingly offensive film.

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 05/10/2017 22:04

I enjoyed the series and loved the finale. Liked the first film, hated the second. All the camaraderie of underwear under burkas reminded me of the Madonna camaraderie in jail in Bridget Jones 2, thought that was a shit sequel too.

Re this story, If Kim is being honest and says with food banks and so on, four women luxury shopping is in poor taste because who needs fashionistas in a recession then she has a point.
If she thinks the character has no more legs, again fair point, her prerogative. I respect both points of view.

The Stanford guy clearly feels the opposite way, resents the use of the word toxic and is essentially calling her out for raising people's hopes for 6 months while negotiating her contract. If there is any truth in that whatsoever then I am not surprised there is resentment. Many of the cast rely on the work. If she said No then fair enough. If she stalled or had her agent negotiate on her behalf that's poor form not to own it.

Surprised SJP even wanted to go back to it unless it was to replace SATC2 as being the last memory. Divorce was fairly successful and there is a new season airing January 2018.

The obvious thing to do would be to kill off the character Sam right at the start of the movie. Three women in black at the church. Breast cancer returned. Kim apparently retweeted Perez Hilton suggesting this. If the script is as good as SJP claimed then it will hold up even with a fourth character introduced...as Kim herself suggested, black or hispanic (I'm thinking Eva Longoria).

So they meet Eva Longoria at the funeral.Turns out she knew Sam from Sex Addicts Anonymous. They bond straight away as she is essentially a Latina Sam, go to reminisce/toast Samantha and the rest of the film unfolds as it would have but with Eva doing Kim's part.

Although I understand for die-hard fans it would be too much. Like, say, doing a Friends film without Rachel or Chandler in it.
I didn't see it but understand that Cold Feet did okay in its revival without the need for Helen Baxendale's Rachel to appear as a ghost. Grin

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 05/10/2017 22:12

The deal is, if I understand it correctly, is that there was a deal. But pulling out means rest of cast/crew have been screwed over and feel let down. But it is all he says, she says. Depends whose version of events one believes. Think of it like a house sale where the buyer pulls out right before exchange of contracts. Perfectly within their rights to do so but vendor is going to feel somewhat cheated especially if the person who reneged then claims they were never a serious buyer anyway!

BriechonCheese · 05/10/2017 22:38

Good for her! SATC has been dire since series 6.

I know someone who knows someone
who knows someone who says SJP is nowhere near the snivelling, weak weasel that Carrie Bradshaw is and is very adept at making people bend to her whims with freezing people out being her method of choice. She falls out with production staff and writers constantly and wants to have all projects look like her vision.

I have no idea if there is any truth in that but she certainly seems the type of actress to be way over invested in her character - in that specifically New York way where they over analyse every intonation and word to the point where the script has little or no meaning but in their heads it "feels like the character" so balls to the rest of the production. If I wrote SATC/Divorce she would have driven me batshit.

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 05/10/2017 22:59

I met KC once and she is just lovely. Very mannerly and reserved.

southeastdweller · 06/10/2017 20:13

I see that Piers Morgan called Willie Garson a 'ridiculous twerp' for his comments this week on Twitter about Kim.

FruBayerischOla · 06/10/2017 20:18

A few years ago we saw KC in the Sweet Bird Of Youth at the Old Vic. She was brilliant.

TheBusThatCouldntSlowDown · 06/10/2017 20:26

Of course SJP is going to want to keep flogging the SATC horse; she's the executive producer so gets a much larger cut than the other actresses. The actor who plays Stanford is SJP's friend in real life, she got him that job so he's riding her coat tails and fighting her battles for her by criticising KC publicly.

Good on Kim for saying no. The first film was pretty wank, the second film was the worse thing I've ever seen. The series was fun, different and didn't always have a happy ending. The films are completely different; just vapid women being OTT caricatures of their established personalities.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 06/10/2017 20:36

To be fair, the best SATC episodes had deaths or funerals.

They might do a movie. First scene is Samantha being lowered into the ground with a wreath saying, "She Was Fabulous".

As tacky AF but people will watch it. I'd probably watch it. Eventually.

Coconutspongexo · 06/10/2017 20:36

Yeah Carrie moving to New York in the 80s has been done in the Carrie diaries which was also horrific.

They need to stop trying to do spin offs and films from such successful shows it taints them!

Apparently Kim didn't even want to do the 2nd film but agreed to it so I'm not shocked she doesn't want to do this.
