to actually respect Kim Catrall for this?

Kim Catrall is being criticised for not wanting to do Sex And The City 3 and has been very vocal on social media that she just didn't want to go back to the character.

Half the cast are publicly slagging her off for it and many 'fans' too.

She's 61! She's openly said she doesn't fancy playing that character again and I can't say I blame her - she also agreed that the last film was...not great.

I'm surprised at the vitriol being aimed at her for it. It's very un-sexandthecityish really.

What does everyone think?

*no 'why do you care?!' posts please 😁 I am a big SATC fan so I do care

tippez geri Haliwell is in it for about 30 seconds out of 6 series! You are unlucky if that's the only bit you've manage to see!

Sayyouwill · 05/10/2017 19:40

Surely there can't be a story left to tell for SATC.
Charlotte has her happy ending, Carrie has hers, Miranda has hers, Samantha has hers.... to do anything else they would have to ruin one of their relationships (or put Samantha in a new one) and just spend a film rebuilding it so they all end up in the exact same place they were at the beginning....
well done Kim for saying no!

Panicattheschoolgate · 05/10/2017 19:40

Her character had played its length.

Who wants to be acting a 61 year old slut at the butt of all the jokes.

The others just want the money boat.

OwlinaTree · 05/10/2017 19:41

Maybe the third film is about them living in sheltered accommodation!

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/10/2017 19:41

The last film was embarrassing, I cringed throughout, there's no way they should make a third.

MerchantofVenice · 05/10/2017 19:41

Don't blame her.

That second film was THE worst film I have ever seen. What were they thinking??

dontslouchdarling · 05/10/2017 19:42

Perhaps they could recreate 1980s NYC and do "SATC - The Early Years" instead (with different actresses obvs)

ASmallBlueberry · 05/10/2017 19:42

I agree sayyouwill - they got their happy endings, and then we had to watch them be undone and put back together again with each film! I love SATC but I feel like I've seen enough of Carrie & Big fighting!

CoffeeAndEnnui · 05/10/2017 19:45

I admire the decision too. Samantha (and a good chunk of my love for the franchise) was unrecognisable by the time the credits rolled on SATC 2. All trace of that bittersweet self-awareness, which made the show so groundbreaking, had been lost.

Why should Kim risk another critical kicking when she has so little control over what new horrors will be inflicted upon Samantha? Of the four leads she is the most likely to be make ridiculous for cheap laughs. She deserves better and so do we!

quaqua · 05/10/2017 19:46

I'd watch if they presented them as the age that they realistically are. So HRT and heading for retirement etc.

BelleandBeast · 05/10/2017 19:47

Yes dontslouchdarling I'd love to see that!

onalongsabbatical · 05/10/2017 19:50

Her choice - good for her. Silly fuckers slagging her off as if they have any say in it.

Pemba · 05/10/2017 19:51

I don't blame her, the one where they all went to Dubai/Abu Dhabi (was that 2?) was pretty awful. Time to give it a rest.

I saw her on her episode of 'Who Do You Think You Are?' once, thought she was lovely.

livefornaps · 05/10/2017 19:54

The second film was raaaaaaaaciiiiist and unfortunately made me revisit a lot of the racist undertones in the 1st film & series

bianglala · 05/10/2017 19:55

She's the best thing in SATC. Love her confidence and sexiness. And respect to her for saying no to very easy money. The TV series was awesome, I could watch it over and over again with reruns of Friends but the movies were god awful. The last one was so cringeworthy!

yorkshireyummymummy · 05/10/2017 19:57

I simply adored SATC but it's of its time and that time has now passed. I have simply no desire to see a 61 year old Samantha shagging God knows who. I don't want to see Carrie and Big fighting. I don't want to see Miranda and Steve splitting up. And I don't want to see Charlotte being nice and posh. If they did another movie they have to make characters split up/ someone dies etc. In my mind they are all just suspended in time and nice and happy and hats the way I would like them to remain. We all know they just want to make money out of us don't they. Carrie Et al have nothing more to say to us that is relevant to us as a group of women. We have all moved on. I think Kim was right for whatever reasons to not do it. I just hope the others don't do it without her and kill Samantha off.

Undercoverbanana · 05/10/2017 19:59

She values credibility (her own, the character's and the series) more than $$$$$$. I like that.

IamSerena · 05/10/2017 20:00

Well I'm disappointed there won't be a third. I loved the 1st one. Second was awful. I'd like one last one where they're back where they belong in NYC.
Although if that's Kim Cattralls reason for saying no, I respect it. However last week they said it was because she had too many demands which was imo unfair.

ASmallBlueberry · 05/10/2017 20:00

@YorkshireMummy I fully agree! It never occurred to me though that they might do it without her! They wouldnt, would they? 👀

OP posts:
Sayyouwill · 05/10/2017 20:00

@dontslouchdarling they did a tv series about this didn't they?

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 05/10/2017 20:01

Unless they moved to explore Samantha willingly NOT having sex- for which she'd need to be central, I can see why KC said no. Plus the films are shit. I can see why she'd not want her name on those credits

Paddington68 · 05/10/2017 20:05

Willie Garson has only really played one role, so he is going to slag off Kim Catrell as it hurts his pocket.

southeastdweller · 05/10/2017 20:06

Good for her for being so public about it and (for the first time) finally criticising SJP. It's been an open secret for years those two have never got along that great. The world's moved on much since those SATC days, we don't need another film.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 05/10/2017 20:07

2 was utter shit so I dont blame her for not wanting a 3rd. Career suicide.

dontquotemeondailymail · 05/10/2017 20:09

YANBU

What's really annoyed me about all of this is that she's been labelled a diva because of it - initially (and apparently incorrectly) because she had 'demands' and now because she's simply standing her ground.

When Daniel Craig said he didn't want to do Bond again, sure he was mocked, but AFAIK he was never diva-ish.
