Every day I:

Clean my floors with floor wipes (twice a day, more if I see any mark etc).

Wash up as I go.

Make my beds first thing

Hoover all rooms (about 3/4 times a day)

Wash on, put a wash away

Clean kitchen surfaces (3/4 times, more if I'm using kitchen more).

Clean cupboard doors/draws

Hoover sofa

Hoover living room rug (twice)

Wipe down living room surfaces (3/4 times)

Clean toilet (3/4 times a day, sometimes more)

Clean bathroom (about twice a day top to bottom, and little wipe downs etc whenever else).

Empty bin

Wipe down bedroom furniture/dust surfaces

Every other day I:

Steam clean bathroom and kitchen. Sometimes this is every day too.

Hoover behind sofas (will do this each day if any actual messes are created).

Twice a week:

Clean out fridge

Clean inside cupboards

My Nan is apparently "worried" at the extent I'm cleaning, but I think it's healthy and normal. It keeps me calm and makes me happy. I don't believe it's extensive. "Cleaning isn't good for the soul" says DNan.

MIL has hinted I should be checked for OCD.

Personally, I find this quite offensive. OCD is a serious health issue and not one to joke about.

AIBU to clean the way I do and think it's healthy? AIBU to think it's offensive to others who really do suffer that it isn't acceptable to go around, throwing the term 'OCD' about?

This is a stealth boast isn't it?
Ohhh look at me with my immaculate house,a new baby and awesome hoover that is so awesome i hoover every room 3-4 times a day.

Lethaldrizzle · 05/10/2017 19:30

It does sound rather ocd but for what it's worth ocd is not an insult, it's a condition. Also you need new mummy friends who talk about more than kids and tv!

MrsPestilence · 05/10/2017 19:30

How would you feel if your OH took the hoover to work four days a week?

I know it is a daft question, but would the lack of equipment make you anxious or would you find another way to clean the carpet?

Bluntness100 · 05/10/2017 19:32

This is a stealth boast isn't it?

Who the hell woild boast about this? The only way you could think this was a boast was if you were quite ill yourself.

albertatrilogy · 05/10/2017 19:34

Not sure the OP is real..... (Or shall I just say that for one reason or another I find it hard to believe in the existence of people like the OP. I do, of course know that there are people in real life who are obsessive re cleaning.)

arethereanyleftatall · 05/10/2017 19:35

I'm not sure why you're getting such a hard time. You enjoy it (same as a hobby), and it doesn't take long. Go for it.

BlueButTrue · 05/10/2017 19:36

Please tell me how to clean a bathroom from top to bottom in less than 5 minutes. I hate cleaning the bathroom, well to be honest I hate cleaning

You've answered your own question - It takes me 5 minutes because it's kept on top of. If I didn't clean It much at all, it would
Take far longer as there would be more to do from scratch, if you see what I mean?

It's easy to keep something clean that was tidy and clean to begin with

OP posts:
Lily2007 · 05/10/2017 19:36

I don't think that's ocd as its not making you anxious.

RebelRogue · 05/10/2017 19:36

But why clean it if it's tidy and clean already?

greendale17 · 05/10/2017 19:36

Your are in denial. It is not normal

Taylor22 · 05/10/2017 19:37

There has been some research lately that indicated that homes that are to clean can be a contributing factor in allergies and asthma.

Something to think about.

MrsPestilence · 05/10/2017 19:39

A quick advanced search shows OP is generally normal.

BlueButTrue listen to your DNan and DMIL you are doing more in a day than most do in a week. Your DBaby will only be little once, you are meant to be enjoying it. Have a chat with your family and remember, they love you.

PoppyPopcorn · 05/10/2017 19:40

You're not hearing how bonkers this is - something which is clean and tidy does not need cleaned or tidied!

LagunaBubbles · 05/10/2017 19:40

Hoover a room up to 4 times a day that doesn't need It?? Unless you are trampling in biscuits 4 times a day of course. Hmm

LagunaBubbles · 05/10/2017 19:41

If something is clean.....why does it need cleaned again?

ijustwannadance · 05/10/2017 19:43

What's the point in doing the same rooms x times a day though? They can't possibly be dirty again.

Taylor22 · 05/10/2017 19:43

Unless you are trampling in biscuits 4 times a day of course

Have you been to my house?

Crunchymum · 05/10/2017 19:43

OP, how old is your baby? Or are you still pregnant?

Seems an awful lot of cleaning either way Shock

Panicattheschoolgate · 05/10/2017 19:44

I have OCD and don’t clean that much Confused

BlueButTrue · 05/10/2017 19:46

I understand the amount I clean isn't very normal BUT I don't think it's OCD because...

It doesn't make me anxious

I look forward to it! Just like some people look forward to catching up on a good soap series or relaxing with a good book. Just like some people look forward to and enjoy football matches, cooking etc

I get everything done, including my cleaning. I always manage to shop, etc etc. I shower twice a day, I go out to see friends and family. Normal stuff

I enjoy it

I would clean for other people if they'd let me, I don't because I wouldn't want to make anyone uncomfortable

I don't have a germ fear. I don't have an issue getting dirty. I don't clean the way I do because I'm scared of germs etc

Taylor no! But my DH was a childminder for 5 years and apart from children he was surgically attached to our Dyson! Grin

RebelRogue · 05/10/2017 19:47

@BlueButTrue you can come clean my house. No awkwardness here.

BlueButTrue · 05/10/2017 19:48

Rebel I would love to! Flowers

Ohwell14 · 05/10/2017 19:48

Why are you ignoring the question about how much time you actually spend with your dc. Or if your still pregnant

BlueButTrue · 05/10/2017 19:49

OhWell I'm heavily pregnant! With terrible back pain and still struggling on with HG sickness Envy
