Just got an email saying my parcels been delivered to a neighbour. I don't know them, quite a few doors down.

I'm not home from work till 8.30pm. Is this too late to knock to collect? I realllly want it, but it's not massively urgent.

AIBU to knock? Happy to be led by opinions so don't flame Grin

I just took one round to someone. 8.30 everyone’s home, not asleep, finished tea. Perfect time.

Gizlotsmum · 05/10/2017 19:02

Our elderly neighbour is 89. I speak to him and his daughter regularly so know he doesn’t answer the door at that time ;)

strawberrypenguin · 05/10/2017 19:21

8.30 would be fine for me. Not too late at all.

C8H10N4O2 · 05/10/2017 19:26

Probably about 50.........

Grin

I must get into my pyjamas and hobble onto the Stannah before the sandman comes for me. After all anyone who took in a parcel for me is obviously just trying to make trouble. Unless they didn't take in the parcel in which case obviously trying to make trouble.

Well one of those.

Ttbb · 05/10/2017 19:44

Anything before nine is reasonable but after six you should only gently knock-don't ring to doorbell. They might have children in bed or a jumpy dog or sonething.

Tazerface · 05/10/2017 19:47

Just go, knock, and if they open say "sorry it's late, I just got in and think you have a parcel for me".

You've definitely been on MN too long and are overthinking!

allthgoodusernamesaretaken · 05/10/2017 20:39

How old are these elderly neighbours that people expect to be in bed at 8.30pm?

I wasn't assuming that elderly people would be in bed by 8.30pm, but I know some of my elderly relatives don't like answering the door at night

Maybe these mythical elderly people are the same ones cited by lots of people earlier this summer when a poster was moaning about her mother being unwilling to catch a train home (at 6pm) from a family BBQ, expecting the poster to not drink and then drive her home. Loads of furious posters slating the OP for not supporting her elderly mother, and how dare she make this poor old lady catch public transport at 6pm on a July evening. Despite the OP pointing out every few minutes that her mum was 56. Confused

VioletCharlotte · 05/10/2017 20:52

You'll be ok unless your neighbours a Mumsnetter. Apparently they don't answer the door after dark.

C8H10N4O2 · 05/10/2017 21:34

Apparently they don't answer the door after dark

Well to be fair they might get darked on.
And have to wash all over again.

Aridane · 05/10/2017 22:22

They don't open the door during the day!

Tazerface · 06/10/2017 21:51

I think OP is still dithering and by now the neighbours have sent it back Grin

edwinbear · 06/10/2017 21:56

8.30pm is absolutely fine. It's a normal grown up time for adults to be doing post work activities, such as collecting parcels from neighbours.

I took in a parcel today for complete unknowns. OP if it’s yours come and bloody get it...my kids keep asking what it is and if it’s for them Grin

AccrualIntentions · 06/10/2017 22:07

8:30pm is fine! I hate answering the door, but if I've got a parcel for someone then I'd be expecting them. I also don't get why you wouldn't change your doorbell if it's so loud and dramatic it wakes your children up.

CottonEyedJoe · 06/10/2017 22:07

The neighbours were fine yesterday. But I've just come home to all these. SIX!! Different houses to go to in the morning. My online shopping habit has got out of control (only happens 3 times a year on student loan day if that's any defence, and I always tell them to leave it in my garden Blush).

So tomorrow will be full of mixed feelings. A little bit like Christmas, a little bit like the most anxiety ridden 10 minute outing I could ever dream of. BlushGrin

My online shopping habit has got out of control (only happens 3 times a year on student loan day if that's any defence, and I always tell them to leave it in my garden and happily take in parcels every time I'm asked even though I suffer with GADBlush).

If it's Craft Gin Club delivery ? Any time !!! 😉

Starlight2345 · 06/10/2017 22:26

why don't you order it for the day you are going to be home most the day?

I took a parcel in a couple of days ago at 5ish , thought twice because they always come late , I considered saying no but am aware they are getting married in just over a weeks time.. Its not I can't open the door late..After working all day putting my DS to bed I don't actually want to answer the door in my PJ's. I have little compassion for the life situation of anyone who isn't a close friend or family by that time of the day.

I work from home so refuse to take in from the whole street as I become the drop off point for everyone

I just always leave my back gate open and tell them to leave it in my back garden. I did order it all mid next week hoping it'd get here over the weekend. If they don't want to for whatever reason, I'm happy to pick up from the post office down the road. I don't mind at all if my neighbours say no to taking it in, I'd actually rather they didn't! I'm the same as you and would rather not have to answer the door in my pjs, but still take parcels in for everyone else and will buy them all chocolate at Christmas 🤷🏽‍♀️

OP posts:
SandyDenny · 07/10/2017 07:38

Are you joking about buying them something at Christmas? That's as odd as people not opening the door. If my neighbor gave me something nearly 3 months after I'd had the inconvenience of having to open my door twice I'd think they'd gone mad and it would make me not want to do it another time.

Maybe I don't buy from the right kind of place but I never see an option to choose when to have the postman deliver the parcel, how do you do that?
