Hartley Hare and Pipkins - am I the oldest Mumsnetter in the world?

There is another thread where a chaperone gave a child with SN a toy rat to keep them quiet. I read the thread and was appalled and yet comforted by the pictures of the rat. Didn't want to hijack that thread but it reminded me of Hartley Hare, who was a terrifyingly bad puppet in a kids show in my youth. The show was called Pipkins I think and included Topov the Monkey and a tortoise, whose name I can't remember.

Am I the oldest and/or most disturbed MNer? As, while Hartley terrified me he also brought joy to my heart because he was such a bad little shit! I think 70s kids TV may have been dominated by people on some sort of recreational substances to be fair.

I don't remember watching any of those, Joey. Confused

Willow2017 · 04/10/2017 23:54

Remebered another one.

Casey Jones

Had a Catweazle poster up in my bedroom. Sadly, Geoffrey Bayldon, for it was he, died earlier this year.

Sir Prancealot - alternated with Magic Roundabout in the pre-news slot at 5.35. Starring serfs Albert and Harold, those unfashionable names.

The Boy from Space! I remember that so vividly from junior school. And clapping to make each little dot in the circle disappear in the countdown to it.

Did it have peregrine falcons in it too - seems unlikely - am I muddling up my miniseries?

Saturdays mornings was tiswas (or swapshop)

or the very strange set up that was 'why don't you' I learnt how to make eggy bread from watching that.

Nanny0gg · 05/10/2017 00:15

I also remember Mick and Montmorency with Charlie Drake, and Torchy, the battery boy!

And Twizzle!

Can't understand the poster who didn't like the voice of the narrator in Ivor the Engine -it was so soothing!

And oh! I'd forgotten Noggin the Nog! Chhildren today would never watch these!

Can anyone remember a Health programme all about feet and the song 'Blocka boots ' It was great being young in the 70's.

Joeymaynardslimegreendress · 05/10/2017 00:34

Can’t recall that swing bit will u tube.

Lots of public info programmes in the 70s.

I recall ‘granny gets the point’
as we decimalised and as s gran now I look nothing like the grey haired old lady portrayed 1974??

Also a strange advert telling
People what a drowning person looked like in the sea and who to call. Very captain pug wash like :)

Worriedobsessive · 05/10/2017 00:41

Y don't u? That was the best Saturday program ever. And then suddenly they started using northern Irish kids to present it and I swear I couldn't understand a word!

Worriedobsessive · 05/10/2017 00:41

And of course Galloping Gourmet. I think my mum fancied him a bit.

Worriedobsessive · 05/10/2017 00:42

And Ludwig, a really odd egg thing, borne of Oliver Postgate's experimentation with mescaline.

InigoTaran · 05/10/2017 01:04

And Robinson Crusoe, in black and white, with another great theme tune!

FrLukeDuke · 05/10/2017 01:36

On Saturday afternoons there was things like Wonder Woman, The Dukes of Hazard, The Incredible Hulk and the vile man who fixed it.

FrLukeDuke · 05/10/2017 01:37

The Muppet Show too

FrLukeDuke · 05/10/2017 01:38

I used to love Grange Hill. I saw the first ever one in 78.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 05/10/2017 02:37

No one else I know remembers the Clifton House Mystery in the late 70s

Was that the one where they found a hidden room in their house which was sort of possessed, Hunting?

It was.

Anyone remember "Angels", "General Hospital", "Raven" (the spooky kids' program from the 70s) & "Shadows"?.

tobee · 05/10/2017 02:42

I remember most of these.

An episode of Pipkins where Hartley Hare thought he had made a date with the speaking clock. (Hey no taking of drugs were involved when storylining these stories kids)

I googled the Little Mole recently and apparently, being Czechoslovakia in those days, he was dreamt up as some sort of communist workers collective or something.Confused

I had a crush on Dill the Dog aged about 4. And in. some lights, there is a slight resemblance to dh.

But does anybody remember the Cinderella series they had on most Christmases? It was called Three Wishes for Cinderella and it was live action, I think also Czech. The dialogue was in the original and there was a male voice narrating over the top. She was sort of Bridget Bardot sex kittenish and the Prince was very dishy! It made me feel so Christmassy and excited.

TrinityBelle · 05/10/2017 06:20

SwingOutSisterSledge I remember the Blocka Boots song! Me and my brother still sing it to each other now if we're a bit pissed. I think it was in one of the school's programmes on BBC2.

TrinityBelle · 05/10/2017 06:22

BLOCKABOOTS! Hope this link works!

ticklady · 05/10/2017 07:15

Remember that trendy new thing called Morph?
He was amazing.
We also lived in a BBC house. Itv was frightfully common. In dmums opinion.

Another foreign one, I'm thinking Czech as this seems to be the theme with Golden Hair and the wishes for Cinderella(tho I don't know that one).
It was called Train to Station Heaven. All about kids ,in a train in a tunnel??? Rubbish memory I'm afraid. it was desperately sad.

Fekko · 05/10/2017 07:32

Anyone from Scotland? The untied shoelaces show!

Laiste · 05/10/2017 07:44

liz the black beauty theme makes me tearful now! Used to love it so much as a kid.

Whoever mentioned Singing Ringing Tree - aarrrrgggghhhhh! One of my earliest memories - i must have been only 2 or 3 - is sitting on my dad's lap and seeing some creepy bloody bear/man thing stalking a woman. That's the only bit i remembered. And it scarred me for life! As an adult with the power of google i found out what it was and watched some of it. Ye Gods ! What were they all on? Grin And that fish!! Bare in mind i saw it in grainy black and white as well

ProfYaffle · 05/10/2017 07:56

Storybook International! Thank you for that, I used to love the theme song - can't remember anything about the actual episodes though.
