You shouldn’t knock TEN years off your age!

A former friend I went to school with is all over social media today saying she’s ten years younger than she is, I just think it’s a bit off really why even say anything about your age at all if you don’t want people to know how old you are, it wasn’t relevant to what she was taking about in her post.

Is it dishonest or AIBU.

I'd be tempted to ask her where she found the time travel machine.

MargaretCavendish · 03/10/2017 12:18

I always wonder about people who do that - wouldn't you rather people thought you looked good for 43 than they thought you looked terrible for 33? The one exception might be if she's in a very youth-oriented industry as, sad as it is, I know people do sometimes feel they have to lie about their age so that aren't discounted.

MrsJayy · 03/10/2017 12:21

Is your school mate famous and it is their showbiz age?

rightnowimpissed · 03/10/2017 12:21

MargaretCavendish yeah I’d understand that Burbank she’s not, she runs workshops on using computers.

ShesNoNormanPace yes we’d love to know.

I'd be tempted to comment saying you hadn't realised she was such a child prodigy that she was a toddler when you were at high school together...

Maudlinmaud · 03/10/2017 12:22

I age up. I like to see the shock on people's face. Sadly it's not working so much these days Confused

rightnowimpissed · 03/10/2017 12:22

MrsJayy no not famous or trying to be asfaik.

MrsJayy · 03/10/2017 12:24

Joinourclub · 03/10/2017 12:26

I'd say 'Oo great are we 33 again? I loved my 30's !'

rightnowimpissed · 03/10/2017 12:29

Grin I’m loving these suggestions might just do that.

My Dad went to school with a famous author whose books have been made into many mini series.

She seems to have lost a few years since they left school!

GlitteryFluff · 03/10/2017 12:32

Go on op, say something!

Nocabbageinmyeye · 03/10/2017 12:33

Are you sure she's not joking?

KatherinaMinola · 03/10/2017 12:35

I know somebody who knocked exactly 10 years off her age (I suppose it's easier to remember). She did it because she went back to college as a (very) mature student and didn't want to stand out, and then she found it helped her get jobs afterwards. She gets away with it and it's worked well for her.

JoJoSM2 · 03/10/2017 12:36

Sounds a bit desperate really. I don't think I'd be bothered. The above comments are really funny so worth posting on her fb if you're feeling a tad mischievous.

RaininSummer · 03/10/2017 12:37

very strange thing to do as somebody would always know surely. Also when you get a job it will become very obvious from your paperwork.

drspouse · 03/10/2017 12:39

I had a big birthday recently and was tempted to hint to newer (e.g. school gate) friends that it was 10 years younger but as nobody said "ooh you look good for X" nor "I didn't realise you were X-10" I thought I probably couldn't pull it off.

Emily7708 · 03/10/2017 12:40

I was in the same secondary school class as a reasonably famous actress and even share the same birthday month. I was really surprised to read recently that she’s now 7 years younger than me!

LilQueenie · 03/10/2017 12:51

Im surprised no one has corrected her. Everyone I know would be making jokey comments on it by now.

FrodoBagginsJnr · 03/10/2017 12:52

Oooh Emily any clues?

morningconstitutional2017 · 03/10/2017 12:56

Mum used to say, "Your sins will find you out" and I'm sure she'll trip up on this somehow, whether by any of your understandably mischievous comments you make or otherwise.

After all, you're not the only one who knows. It amazes me that they think no-one will notice.

PovertyPain · 03/10/2017 12:57

Ouch, you've just brought back a terrible memory. 😭 I was working with two young nurses on a significant birthday. They were wishing me a happy birthday as another staff member had asked them to pass on his best wishes, as he was off. How lovely, I thought, as they told me how AMAZING I looked and couldn't get over my age. Preen. 😁🤗 They then passed me a card, from the co worker. On the front, it said happy 50th birthday. I had just turned 40! Funny fucker knew rightly too! So basically I looked great for a 50yr old! 😳😭😆

rightnowimpissed · 03/10/2017 12:58

No no onelse has pulled it and she wasn’t joking she typed it like three time in this post. I’d love to post something but I need to pluck up the courage.

She does look good but not ten years good I mean. She’s going 1989 instead of 1979 plus she has two younger brothers who are older than that too!

OP posts:
pigsDOfly · 03/10/2017 12:59

I've never understood the point of that, and ten years is a hell of a lot.

Agree with pp, would you really want people thinking you look shit for your age? Given that she's probably taking off the 10 years as a vanity thing, I imagine she wouldn't be too happy to have people think she looks old for her age.
