You shouldn’t knock TEN years off your age!

A former friend I went to school with is all over social media today saying she’s ten years younger than she is, I just think it’s a bit off really why even say anything about your age at all if you don’t want people to know how old you are, it wasn’t relevant to what she was taking about in her post.

Is it dishonest or AIBU.

10 years is a huge chunk! Desperate measures really. You are who you are, easier to learn to accept that than spend the rest of your days trying to be so much younger. Although my uncle told his future wife that he was the younger brother by quite a chunk - she must have been a bit disappointed as divorce soon followed.

I would comment, not sure I could stop myself. Possible with a few choice lines from Time Warp just to be flippant.

PovertyPain · 03/10/2017 13:09

That was 8yrs ago right and it still makes me cringe laugh. 😬 At least I had a laugh with them, about it, and didn't throw a strop. 😄

WhatchaMaCalllit · 03/10/2017 13:10

Ask her if she's doing a reverse Nadine Coyle - do you remember that on Pop Idol?

PovertyPain · 03/10/2017 13:12

I would have to drop in a comment about the big age gap between her and her brothers. See what her response is. 😄

MrsJayy · 03/10/2017 13:14

Oh ask her how her brothers are go on i dare you 😀 Nadine coyle was on Sunday brunch she is still as whiny as she was when she was 1516

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 03/10/2017 13:15

How bizarre!! I would never say I was younger than I am. I definitely look my age, and I'm not ashamed of either my age or looking it! People would think I'd had a terribly hard life if I said I was 10 years younger. 10 years ffs!!!

OohMavis · 03/10/2017 13:18

She's saying she's 28 instead of 38?! Grin

squoosh · 03/10/2017 13:20

Totally ridiculous but I'd admire her chutzpah. If I claimed to be ten years younger than my age every one of my shy and retiring friends and siblings would laugh uproariously and take the utter piss. She must be confident that her Facebook friends are a sensitive and polite lot!

ArbitraryName · 03/10/2017 13:21

If you have any photos from your schooldays with her in them, especially if they are very conspicuously of their era, now is the time to share them on FB and tag her.

Morphene · 03/10/2017 13:23

I think its pathetic that some women desire to be considered younger than they are.

If we don't respect and value ourselves for the experience and wisdom that comes with age then no one else will.

rightnowimpissed · 03/10/2017 13:24

Nadine Coyle is so annoying, So i did it, I said "wow the years have been kind to you since school in 1997", No reply so far.

" I’d love to post something but I need to pluck up the courage."

Why do you feel the need to humiliate her?

If she was doing it to defraud someone etc, then possibly, how much different is it to all those people who pretend that they have happy marriages, or are decent Parents?

I'd be on my FB all day if I was bothered to pull people up for the 'fibs' that they tell.

I've often wondered what is going on for someone that they have to gossip/get involved in other people's business, when it isn't doing any harm.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/10/2017 13:27

Do you have a School class photo? Put all the names you can remember and tag her and as many former classmates as possible on it. Don’t forget to include the date and year!

Birdsgottafly · 03/10/2017 13:27

X post, why? Not feeling great about yourself?

QuimReaper · 03/10/2017 13:28

How can you lie to employers about your age? You'd be rumbled as soon as you got the job wouldn't you, from your documents? Confused

thecatfromjapan · 03/10/2017 13:31

Liz Jones did this, didn't she?

I think ageism is sad. Sad

coddiwomple · 03/10/2017 13:33

I can't see the point, and my CV being on LinkedIn it would be pretty obvious in my case, no one would believe I went to uni when I was 8.

I can't understand why it's bothering you so much. Does it make you feel older? Does it make you feel less attractive? Unless she was planning on dating your son if he was an adult himself etc of course I genuinely don't understand why you care about her age, her clothes size or whatever info she is giving about herself.

coddiwomple · 03/10/2017 13:34

wow the years have been kind to you since school in 1997
wow, that's is cringing, but about you! It makes you sound very bitter and unpleasant!

EasterRobin · 03/10/2017 13:43

That's not very kind. So what if some of her friends/colleagues think she is younger than she is? If it makes her happier, let her be happy.

rightnowimpissed · 03/10/2017 13:43

Well, no I don't feel bad about me I'm fine thanks for asking though. Im not pretending to be younger than I am, I'm proud of my family, career etc and wouldnt have those if id rubbed out ten years of my life.

Shes obviously not 28 so I chose to correct her.

Perhaps you would've prefered Id said, your lying your actually 38, youll be 39 in three months so stop telling lies.

Im not bitter, maybe I'm unpleasant you'll have to ask other about that, however i just dont get it thats all.

One of my school friends has a Wikipedia page that says she's 7 years younger than me - we ridicule her on facebook and she takes it very well :)

Joeymaynardslimegreendress · 03/10/2017 14:02

I think that was mean op and you will look mean.

Leave her be. She sounds silly but humiliating her in public is horrible.

Openup41 · 03/10/2017 14:11

I would rather look good for my age than look tired at being 10 years younger. I recall the actress Selma Blair said something similar when she was constantly told she looked years looks younger.

I am told I look 8-10 years younger but am proud of my age.

Many a female celebrity have taken a few years off;
Victoria Beckham
Beyonce
Nicole Sherwswinger (oops)

shooeghMcFee · 03/10/2017 14:13

I used to be younger than Michael Jackson and eventually I ended up years older than him. Mind you, it doesn't matter for him) any more.
