IdaDown, yes you have to pay something like £8 to be able to walk into the Pleasure beach but not go on any rides!... think it was to stop kids runnig round it causing mayhem.

Passage Del Terror is just the opening of Pleasurebeach though... Grin

LongWavyHair · 02/10/2017 21:46

MrsMoggy We go to the Haven parks too. The kids love it and so do we!

fakenamefornow · 02/10/2017 21:47

MadameMaxGoesler

They don't look thrilled to be there.

JaniceBattersby · 02/10/2017 21:49

Here we go again. Thousands of posts about how shitty and scummy Blackpool is and a few recommending going to St Anne's because it's posher nicer.

Blackpool is like pretty much every seaside resort. Arcades, a beach, fish and chip shops and pubs on the front, poverty at the back. If you don't want to see any scummy people then go to St Tropez.

There's loads to do in Blackpool. The Tower is a really great day out. It's history is amazing. The comedy carpet is lovely, the beach is nice and flat and the trams are unique. The illuminations will be on and the extra light-based attraction in the Winter Gardens is supposed to be spectacular, The Pleasure Beach is better than any other seaside amusement park in the country and the sandcastle, although busy, is brill.

There's such hideous snobbery towards Blackpool here. No other town comes in for such stick.

You'll easily be able to fill a long weekend OP. The kids will love it.

allinclusive · 02/10/2017 21:49

You will hate it, kids will love it. The only way to survive it is to embrace the whole tacky seaside spirit. Take £20 quid in 2p coins and enjoy!

IggyAce · 02/10/2017 21:49

YANBU, I hate blackpool it's a total dive. We took the DCs to see the illuminations a few years ago never again. Awful parking and terrible one way system.

C0untDucku1a · 02/10/2017 21:51

My mum went on holiday to blackpool every year in the 50s. We are 30 mins away and rarely go, although loved the friday september fireworks last year. But a long weekend will be fine.

If youre snobby how about lytham?

SukiTheDog · 02/10/2017 21:52

Divorce. Seriously, there’s no other way.

chipscheeseandgravy · 02/10/2017 21:52

I went the other weekend for the illuminations with the little one.

To do the touristy bits is expensive. Sealife centre £16 per adult, madam tausaudes about the same. Same goes for the tower. You have to pay to just walk round pleasure beach.

We spent a fortune and we only stayed a few days. It's fairly run down as a place and all the shops sell the same tat at inflated prices.

Whitby is nice if you want a few days at the seaside.

Thetruthfairy · 02/10/2017 21:52

Aww, go on! It should be a right of passage for every parent imo :-) just for the day though.
I remember being young and pleading with my mum to move to Blackpool. Could not understand why she looked so aghast 😂

Do it but have a plan. People watching is scary there!
Stay in Lythm though or Ribby hall for sure.

speakout · 02/10/2017 21:54

I am just back yesterday.

It was beyond grim.

Like a war zone at night, drunks, lit fags everywhere, crap food, fights.

I wasn't there on holiday, but it actually shocked me how run down and gruesome the town is.

NightmareMonkey · 02/10/2017 21:54

Do you need any special vaccinations for Blackpool?

Chattymummyhere · 02/10/2017 21:55

Nope. I went as a child and hated it. It's the one area in the uk that's an automatic nope when looking for a break. Rather go to ingoldmells and smell pot walking around the dodgy market than venture back to Blackpool.

onlyindreams · 02/10/2017 22:04

There's something about Blackpool, go and enjoy yourself. You might be surprised.

GingerLemonTea · 02/10/2017 22:08

Convert Tesco clubcard vouchers for zoo/ pleasure beach.
There’s a deal for the tower on the box of coco pops bars too.

opheliacat · 02/10/2017 22:10

But we don't do the weekly shop at Tesco! I'm pushing Whitby hard.

OP posts:
2ducks2ducklings · 02/10/2017 22:12

It's day trip territory at most! And that is borne mostly out of a sense of tradition.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 02/10/2017 22:16

I would prefer Whitby but the kids would prefer Blackpool. It depends what sort of holiday you are after. Whitby will definitely be cheaper you end up spending a fortune in Blackpool!

numbmum83 · 02/10/2017 22:18

Book attractions online ! We paid £21 for a 2 2 attraction ticket... the tower and madam tussards last week otherwise it was quite a bit each attraction . The more attractions round the cheaper the ticket gets . The tower was brilliant and I LOVE the circus. First time I saw it , it blew me away . I had nevee seen anything like it .

Sandcastle is REALLY expensive but again book online to save money .
Stanley Park is a definite bonus to Blackpool and it's mainly free :)

I love Blackpool . My daughter's Dad was bought up there and he hated it but I would move there if I could . But then it has changed a lot over the past few years . Avoid the beggars, they are bloody EVERYWHERE and the gypsy sellers .
There s a b+b up South shore called Sutton Park and that's meant to be a brilliant hotel . We stayed in Marsdens this time up South shore.

Go on , go and get the kids on a donkey rode and enjoy an ice cream on the seafront haha !

It's the only place I've ever seen a chip shop selling a battered creme egg ha !

Hellywelly10 · 02/10/2017 22:21

Went there about 15 years ago with an ex on the way back from the lakes. We had fun. But the drunks were intimidating at night.

Earlyriser84 · 02/10/2017 22:22

YANBU and I've lived there

Day trip fine but at this time of year it's bleak. Freezing , gale force winds and pissing down so that rules out the pleasure beach, zoo and Stanley park

I can't imagine wanting to stay for more than a day other than in summer time

KrytensNanobots · 02/10/2017 22:23

Oh, the snobs are out in force tonight. I'm firmly of the belief that a holiday/weekend away's what you make it.
If you go determined to turn your nose up/think thing's are tacky etc then of course you'll have a miserable time.
If you go of the mindset you're going to have a great seaside experience, you will.

  • trip up to the top of the tower, or the Jungle Gym soft play in there as well, and visit the Comedy Carpet outside (my two loved that, reading all the famous quotes and seeing which ones they recognised - spent absolute ages on it!)
  • The Sandcastle waterpark is a great day out

  • arm yourselves with lots of 2ps and play the arcades, and have a wander along the beach and eat fish and chips.
    Have a paddle. Eat candyfloss.

  • If you're going with kids it's not like you'll be out until late anyway, so don't see the relevance of stag or hen nights. We certainly didn't see any.

Go around October and you'll see the Illuminations.

The kids'll love it. You will if you don't expect five star swankiness and just enjoy it for what it is. Good old fashioned seaside fun.

YogiYoni · 02/10/2017 22:23

But we don't do the weekly shop at Tesco! I'm pushing Whitby hard.

I'd missed the post above this one and literally just spat my tea out. I thought it was code for "we're posh. We shop at Waitrose" Grin

As you were.

PandorasXbox · 02/10/2017 22:25

Snobs?

Behave.

Ontheboardwalk · 02/10/2017 22:26

Yes to booking attractions online. Even an hour before you want to arrive, if you book you'll save pounds and get money off other attractions.

Blackpool is a special place you just need to ignore all the snobbish comments, especially the ones from years ago. It's a great place for kids.
