Day at the tower
Day at the pleasure beach
Day at the zoo
Day at the sandcastle
And that's pushing it !!

MuddlingMackem · 02/10/2017 21:23

YANBU to think it's not your thing, but YABU to not let the kids have a visit. Although it's better in the summer, I wouldn't want to go for a holiday or long weekend in the autumn or winter.

tippz · 02/10/2017 21:24

What about staying at a Travelodge or something near the Lake District? (Lancaster for example...)

That is a better area, and there is a lot to look at, and it's not far from Blackpool, so you can go visit Blackpool a couple of times.

Have a day there, and have a look around, go to the beach, the tower, the sea life centre, the piers etc one day, then maybe go round the lakes another day, then pop to Blackpool in the evening, and a look at the illuminations. (and maybe see a show.)

Maybe book 2 nights/3 days, or 3 nights/4 days? As I said, stay a few miles away, halfway between The Lakes and Blackpool, then you can visit both.

Bonelessbanquet · 02/10/2017 21:24

When we take DD to the pleasure beach and sandcastle we stay at the big blue hotel. It's quite pleasant for a night away but I think a long weekend would be a stretch!

opheliacat · 02/10/2017 21:24

Tbf ana it wohld be a three day thing (friday, saturday, sunday.) Don't like zoos.

What about Ribby hall? It's close enough to visit, but nicer and quieter.

Sweetpea55 · 02/10/2017 21:24

It's too shitty for words

fakenamefornow · 02/10/2017 21:24

I remember I went as a child and a big fat women fell on me. I can never go back.

MuddlingMackem · 02/10/2017 21:24

Oh, and most of the attractions are linked with the Tesco clubcard rewards so you can use your points for tickets.

tippz · 02/10/2017 21:26

Oooh, and STANLEY PARK is nice too. (In Blackpool, about 2 miles from the seafront.) There is also a zoo there. Smile

sonlypuppyfat · 02/10/2017 21:30

The most expensive holiday I've ever been on

Ontheboardwalk · 02/10/2017 21:31

Get a niace hotel with a sea view with lots of facilities.

Pleasure beach one day, tower another then a trip to St Annes, that's a lot of activities for your DCs to enjoy.

As long as you aren't having it large at central pier come midnight the hen and stag parties won't disturb you.

Watch out for the evil seagulls tho!

ThymeLord · 02/10/2017 21:32

There's nothing wrong with Blackpool. There is deprivation in all seaside towns. Millions of pounds has been spent bringing Blackpool up and the sea front is lovely now. If you want 5 star luxury then go to a 5 star luxury resort but the majority of posts on this thread are just pure snobbery.

notfunnyhaha85 · 02/10/2017 21:32

It's nice for a long weekend but would never go for a whole week. Been twice and have done the tower, waxworks, pier, illuminations etc over two nights and was thoroughly relieved to be leaving Sunday morning.

Pros are the sheer amount of attractions available, the gorgeous lights at nighttime, the people (so much friendlier up north!) and the public transport,

Cons are the weather as it's bloody freezing at night, the crowds, how expensive everything is, drunk people staggering around from 7 o'clock onwards, the lack of that seaside picturesqueness you expect from going to the coast, the total lack of public toilets (no exaggeration!) and the fact that you take your life in your hands crossing the road to promenade.

Book yourselves a long weekend and have a blast with the kiddos!

SquidgeyMidgey · 02/10/2017 21:33

Depends if you like the rides at the pleasure beach. Barricade yourself in at night though.

PandorasXbox · 02/10/2017 21:35

It's a complete shit hole. Save your money, seriously.

whensitmyturn · 02/10/2017 21:35

It's vile, yanbu!

IdaDown · 02/10/2017 21:35

RJ - you have to pay to watch your kids/family/friends on the rides??!

GingerLemonTea · 02/10/2017 21:37

Second Ribby Hall with day trip to Blackpool.

FoxyRoxy · 02/10/2017 21:40

Took the kids to see the illuminations on Friday and they were bored shitless. I second whoever said Ribby Hall.

MrsMoggy · 02/10/2017 21:41

We love Blackpool. My five year old always has a brilliant time there. The pleasure beach, piers, coral island, Stanley park and the illuminations. We usually stay at Haven in fleetwood or Marton mere. I really like it as an adult as well but I was brought up on that sort of holiday so maybe I'm just used to it

MadameMaxGoesler · 02/10/2017 21:42

My ancestors (really and truly) on holiday in Blackpool.

To not want to go on holiday to blackpool
leccybill · 02/10/2017 21:43

We go about once every 5 years. Zoo in the day, illuminations in the evening, then get the hell out by no later than 8pm.

You can't really describe Blackpool to someone who's never been. You have the see it with your own eyes (in a bad way).

Oh, btw, it's almost always freezing cold and windy.

theresamustgo · 02/10/2017 21:43

My DC absolutely loved it. dungeon was great...Illuminasia...arcades. Great fun, but very pricey. And the Grundy is a lovely gallery too.

gillybeanz · 02/10/2017 21:43

It's such a shame that it is so bad now.
I loved Blackpool as a child, it was clean and so many people went for summer holidays.
No stag or hen do's.

It was a choice for a Disney park too, and when approached the council said no, seriously.
I don't think it's very much documented, I heard it from a Free Mason who maybe shouldn't have been talking about it.
It may be common knowledge if you google it though, this was years ago.
