I'm a project manager and have recently had a new person join the team. They need to be given various user accounts and access privileges, and there's a system for requesting all that.

I delegated the task of requesting all the stuff to one of my team supervisors - he might not be the brightest crayon in the box but the whole procedure consists of filling in a web-based form, uploading a passport picture and hitting the 'submit' button. What could possibly go wrong, right?

Imagine my reaction when I got an e-mail requesting that, in my function as the new joiner's manager, I supply a passport picture ...

... as opposed to the phone snapshot of an actual passport that my genius co-worker had sent to them!

And, no, he wasn't taking the piss, he actually is that bloody thick! Angry

Please tell me there's worse out there!

Someone at my place of work sent a very important fax. The person at the receiving end called to say that the fax had not come through, um, clearly, and could it be resent. The sender realized, to her great embarrassment, that she had put the forms into the fax slot the wrong way and had sent a fax of the blank, reverse side of the forms.

It was me! I did it! Blush

BossyBitch · 02/10/2017 20:45

Computer, not as popular as I was when I had to phone the poor DBA on my grad scheme project at 3am because I'd accidentally deleted a few million still relevant records, I guess ... missed one check box in a set of about 80. Oops! Blush

Can I still blame baby brain?!

I tried that londonista, but it doesn't work when your kids have been taller than you for at least five years, and can drive Grin

londonista · 02/10/2017 20:47

Andylion 😂

Suspect we’ve all had a fax stuff up somewhere along the line...! It was the 90s. We were young and stupid ... right? Right???!

Nettletheelf · 02/10/2017 20:51

Some people are a bit dim, others who have to work with them notice and, yes, occasionally talk about it. Sometimes on anonymous forums. Get over it!

I suspect that some of the contributors to this thread are the type who would run off to HR screaming that they are being bullied if everybody doesn't constantly tell them that they are fabulous. What a world.

MCBeatsandGrindah · 02/10/2017 20:54

Harriet Grin it wasn't clear whether you sent it to everyone in the office intentionally or not?

SoPassRemarkable · 02/10/2017 20:59

it's a McDonalds at Wyboston

It was 20 years ago this happened, was trying to remember if it was Burger King or McDonalds. Grin

I still giggle when I remember the story.

SuzukiLi · 02/10/2017 21:00

My best friend was once asked into make beans on toast when she was helping out a pub. She put the toast in the toaster and then poured the beans in and turned it on Grin

We once had a guy sent in from another restaurant to borrow some Fallopian tubing.

OutToGetYou · 02/10/2017 21:01

My assistant today - I will just add she is not stupid, she was just having a moment - said to me "I need to relabel the tea and sugar tins, somehow the labels have got swapped round, I was a bit surprised when I opened it".

The labels are on the lids....

Santawontbelong · 02/10/2017 21:06

Worked in a shop and the freezer broke down as we were trying to get sorted to close, sweeping, mopping, cashing tills etc so asked the newish lad (in his 20's)to transfer all the stock to a freezer in the warehouse.
All done. Shop locked up, no hassle.
Got called in next day and he had put £££££ of stuff in a fridge. . Thought it wouldn't matter apparently. .

londonista, I was about 40 at the time. I hadn't had to send a fax in years, and never at this job.

coddiwomple · 02/10/2017 21:07

It's funny, on this forum you can mock your family members, your friends, your neighbours, any celebrity, the police, the schools, school teachers and school admin but a completely anonymous co-worker!

I think the offended posters are scared to find themselves on this thread.Grin

ThePants999 · 02/10/2017 21:07

Everyone who's moaning about the mean nasty people bullying their colleagues by anonymously posting about them without their knowledge can fuck off. Thanks.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 02/10/2017 21:09

@Fluffypinkpyjamas I suspect that you're one of the thick people

Oh you are just so funny and clever lana do carry on demonstrating your wit Hmm

MarthaArthur · 02/10/2017 21:09

I dread to read this thread. I am the work clown 🙈

RainbowsAndCrystals · 02/10/2017 21:10

I remember for an event one girl was asked to put bottled water in the ice buckets. Instead of just placing the bottles inside, she opened the bottles and the poured the water into the buckets.

I worked with someone who called her customer. Then she made her next call. 5 minutes later she realised she had in fact called the same customer twice.

Worst part was the customer never said anything ConfusedGrin

whattobeexpected · 02/10/2017 21:12

Not a co worker but me 😂
After a double shift 15 hours I was locking up and counting cash, was £500 short, cue half hour panicking, opening closing safes, wondering how I can explain this one, to find it infront of me by my computer in an envelope marked "£500 to add to safe"

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 02/10/2017 21:14

@FluffypinkpyjamasI suspect that you're one of the thick people

Classy.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/10/2017 21:16

Christ at this thread!! There is literally ZERO bullying

I suspect those posters moaning about the posts are lucky enough to have quick simple jobs where they don't have to work with challenging colleagues making mistakes

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 02/10/2017 21:17

A long time ago chatting in the tea room

Me: we’re decorating this weekend

CW: doesn’t the room get smaller?

Me: sorry?

CW: doesn’t the extra paint make the room smaller.

Honestly I explained that 1. you usually paint wallpaper 2. You strip it, re hang and paint again. You don’t have decades on paint making your room smaller.

AlexaAmbidextra · 02/10/2017 21:18

Fgs. All these complaining about the nasty thread/ OP must be such paragons of virtue in RL. Hmm. I can see their cats bum mouths from here.

NewLove · 02/10/2017 21:26

I work in a hospital lab - sample came down earlier totally unlabelled so I rejected as is policy. The medic came to the lab complaining and demanding I let him label it retrospectively (an absolute no-no). I gave him our bucket of unlabelled samples hundreds in it and told him to find his amongst it. He called me a bitch and then burst into laughter - I think he got my point

CherryBlossomPink · 02/10/2017 21:27

Back in the day, a colleague of mine was asked to send a comfidential fax (meaning she was supposed to call the recipient before sending so they could collect it straight away) so she put it in an envelope first marked private and confidential!

WyfOfBathe · 02/10/2017 21:27

Honestly I explained that 1. you usually paint wallpaper 2. You strip it, re hang and paint again. You don’t have decades on paint making your room smaller.
I definitely do have decades of paint on my walls. I don't think I know anyone who paints wall paper, people either have paint or wall paper.

SocksRock · 02/10/2017 21:29

We bought a house once where the previous owner had papered the downstairs loo every week with the Sunday Times, read it on the loo all week and then put the next issue up next week.

There was about 3" of Sunday Timeseses on the walls and it took a week to remove with a steamer...
