In the super market today and heard a mum shout "beige" to her daughter...no joke! At first I thought I had misheard Paige...but no, definitely beige.

Got me thinking... what are the worst names you have come across?

My normally quiet and reserved dad (and I mean that genuinely!) let me down a bucketful after a whiskey or two after hearing a child named after a country at a nearby table in a restaurant "well we know where she was conceived!" Tbf I think he was as mortified as the rest of us when he cottoned he'd said it out loud Blush

MrsXx4 · 02/10/2017 10:21

@Yellowheart this was well over 25 years ago now, I'm sure she has gotten used to people taking a double take at the name.... but anyway....I'm pretty sure anyone reading this thread whose children's names are mentioned don't feel 'lovely' ....mine have been mentioned on similar threads and they are totally normal names ...think James?! so each to their own...I'm allowed to join in ...I didn't start the thread lol!

MrsXx4 · 02/10/2017 10:21

p.s.....is your child called Raspberry?

TammySwansonTwo · 02/10/2017 10:23

Ellie56 some worrying name inspiration there... and as someone with twins, who desperately hopes not to have twins again should I have another pregnancy (hardest thing I've ever done in my life), I think she must be mad

RoboticSealpup · 02/10/2017 10:23

I thought Bentley and Harley sounded bad because I thought they derived from the motoring brands... But then I looked them up and they're actually old English names. Something about fields with particular kinds of grass. The new connotations made them sound better to me.

Confused

Talking about my dislike of Elowan.

I'm not ignorant. I know it's Cornish I still hate it and think it sounds daft.

TheFaerieQueene · 02/10/2017 10:24

Nikita for a girl. It’s a man’s name. Nikita Khrushchev is the most well known ffs.

I blame the Elton John video - but we all know he wasn’t really singing about a woman. Grin

RedBlu · 02/10/2017 10:27

I know of an Arla - which is also a brand of dairy products...

I don’t mind the name Arla, but can’t shake the connection with milk and cheese!

backOffSunshine · 02/10/2017 10:27

TheFaerieQueene

I only learnt that a couple of months ago. I love that song even more now!

FeralBeryl · 02/10/2017 10:27

I hate the slag name threads generally, but I used to work with someone who called her daughter Isis
A beautiful, strong name with a great meaning but obviously now one of the most hated words in society.
I often wondered if she altered it in any way.

Lumidee · 02/10/2017 10:28

Surely Candida is the worse name for a little girl?

It's nothing to do with race or class and everything to do with the fact your child shares a name with a vaginal yeast infection.

mumofone234 · 02/10/2017 10:29

I like the name Elowen!

KC225 · 02/10/2017 10:30

DRE spelt DRE (as in Dr I asked her) but pronounced Draaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy

MiddlingMum · 02/10/2017 10:31

Pink

honeylulu · 02/10/2017 10:32

I knew of a boy called Lotus-Elan. His brother was Frazor (sic) though admittedly that sounds unremarkable out loud. There was a third brother but I can't remember for the life of me what he was called.

My workmate has a teenage stepdaughter called Elisha which is a male Hebrew name. My friend thinks that her mother had in mind the name Alicia pronounced the American way (A-leesh-a) and decided to "invent" her own spelling!

I also know a Quintus (5th child of the family) but I think that's an awesome name.

buckeejit · 02/10/2017 10:33

Herod

Lumidee · 02/10/2017 10:33

KC225 But a teacher could have so much fun with this.

Dre being left out of playground games? Teacher just shouts "And girls and boys act like you forgot about Dre"

honeylulu · 02/10/2017 10:34

FeralBeryl I know of an Isis too. Her mum had her in her 40s and her name was chosen because of the fertility goddess Isis. I think its a beautiful name. She is now known as Icy which was already her family nickname.

Littlebatcalledlucille · 02/10/2017 10:35

Lillette.Hmm

Shadow666 · 02/10/2017 10:36

Has anyone said Chlamydia yet? I need it for my bingo card.

LoislovesStewie · 02/10/2017 10:36

I've met females called Merica ( as in America!) and Nivea . I'd only heard of Nivea as a face cream so didn't really get that and twin boys called Jaydee and Jaycee. I assume parents thought just initials as first name would be stupid.

BoudicasBoudoir · 02/10/2017 10:37

The worst name of all time is Glumdalclitch. I was at university with her.

I know it's Literary - but it's not kind.

Caenea · 02/10/2017 10:37

I went to school with a Wolf (boy)

His sister was Raven - which I always quite liked as it was most exotic - but Wolf??

LetMeChangeYourSocks · 02/10/2017 10:38

I know someone who called their twin girls Dolce and Gabbana.

And also someone else who called their DD Lolly.

Hmm
Katedotness1963 · 02/10/2017 10:40

Most unusual name I've come across was a wee boy called Serbarstiene. I thought i was hearing it wrong but I saw it written down. Definitely Serbarstiene.
