In the super market today and heard a mum shout "beige" to her daughter...no joke! At first I thought I had misheard Paige...but no, definitely beige.

Got me thinking... what are the worst names you have come across?

I wonder if a lot of these are from overhearing people's daft nicknames for their kids for example my youngest has a very traditional name but we call him Tron or variations if it most of the time.

MrsJayy · 02/10/2017 13:02

I know an Angel she certainly isn't also went to School with a Joy who is a miserable fecker Grin

Wellonlyifihavetoo · 02/10/2017 13:03

Round our way there's a crixus Grin

PonyPals · 02/10/2017 13:04

Buskier (pronounced Basky-yeah)
For a boy

Averille · 02/10/2017 13:05

@MissFlashpants - the first time my son told me about it, I thought he said bogey.

It reminds me of episode one of The Wire.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 02/10/2017 13:05

My OH really loved the name Willow for any future girl-child of ours but with us both having short legs and a tendency to be overweight the poor kid would have had a hard life.

Averille · 02/10/2017 13:06

Ponypals - sure it isn't French (Pasquier)?

sonlypuppyfat · 02/10/2017 13:07

Kennedy, Caledonia and Trafford

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 02/10/2017 13:08

I know someone who taught a Ryangiggs. All one word

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 02/10/2017 13:09

And on a mum’s group on FB I’m on there’s a few that’ve called their daughter’s Reneesme (as in the child from Twilight)

fustercluckery · 02/10/2017 13:10

I knew a Griselda. She now calls herself Grace.

sharksDen · 02/10/2017 13:12

@FeralBeryl

Yes, Isis has gone out of fashion, like Ira!

Honestly, i think we are so opinionated about names it is ridiculous! Its a name, move on. My eldest DD has a name from a very well know film, and a stand at a well known local football team. Whenever anybody asks her or myself her name we always get a comment about film or f.ball team. When in fact the reason she is called what she is, is actually to do with how our family was growing.
My second DD, everybody thinks her name is after an actor. Its not, it has a meaning to our family!
Our 3rd DD is compared to the bloody kardashians...when I named her I had never known of this kardashian before! Im really not that sad to worship them!
Just hear a name and accept it! What has it got to do with anybody! Just keep opinions to urself and be thankful you have named your kids the 'perfect' name!

RiseToday · 02/10/2017 13:12

I ran into a toddler at soft play called Wilburt. He was going around pushing, shoving and hitting other kids so all you could hear was his Dad saying :
"Wilburt, don't do that",
"Wilburt, you mustn't hit"
"Wilburt, come back here"
Wilburt, say sorry to that little girl"
"Wilburt, play nicely".........

It didn't help that little Wilburt was being a little shit, but hearing his name over and over and over just made me chuckle and seethe in equal measures.

dairymilkmonster · 02/10/2017 13:14

Calling your child the same name as your surname ( or almost the same) is a bit bonkers.
I have come across
jon john and ali alison (girl)

plus one that might be identifiable so i will keep to myself

Averille · 02/10/2017 13:15

Rise - we have got a W i l b u r. To be fair, I regret it somewhat - it as a last minute change from William, because I knew a lot of Williams already, but the reaction to it has been consistently Hmm!

Putting a T on the end would have finished him off though, poor little chap Grin

RiseToday · 02/10/2017 13:20

Averille I think Wilbur is really quite sweet!

You're right though, something about the T just didn't sit quite right with me!

DaemonPantalaemon · 02/10/2017 13:20

Mama/Papa/Nana Three West African siblings
.
And the racism of this thread comes out in full force.

Nana is a common Akan name meaning Queen in Ghana. In fact, it is the fifth most popular name for girls in the country.

And no, Nana does not have siblings called Papa and Mama. You have embellished to make what you think is a funny post but is actually racist.

Huskylover1 · 02/10/2017 13:22

Stanley Knife

Ken Tuckey

Joan Bone

Alison Maddison

And the worst.....Jenny Taylor (looks ok written down, but say it out loud.... Genitalia

Sugarformyhoney · 02/10/2017 13:23

My ds name featured on one of these threads on another popular forum. It is very unusual so I liked at the poster and it was easy to work out by her user name it was another nursery mum ( who happened to be the dullest woman alive 😂). It made me laugh tbh
Very very nearly called dd Isis but thought people may pronounce it wrong (is-is) so it put me off. What a shame though it’s a beautiful name.
I’ve heard some very unusual names over the years but most are lovely

timeistight · 02/10/2017 13:23

Kai is actually a proper name that has been around since at least the 1940s in Scandinavia.

Working with kids, I've seen them all, but I thought Bacardi took a lot of beating. I wondered what role it had played in her conception.

Sugarformyhoney · 02/10/2017 13:23

LOoked not liked ffs

Pansiesandredrosesandmarigolds · 02/10/2017 13:25

Willbur's nice - and if he finds it weird he can always be solid, sensible Will.

pigsDOfly · 02/10/2017 13:27

One of my DDs was born 30 years ago and given a name relevant to our culture and background. The name has since been adopted by a large company when they changed their name.

So far she's managed to avoid stupid people saying 'ooh are you named after that company?' but I suspect it'll turn up on one of these threads about stupid names one day, as obviously she's not the only woman in the country with that name and someone's bound to come across a child with that name at some point.
