My ex landlord's brother came up on mine. I was not friends with my landlord on Fb (or anywhere else for that matter). Freaked me right out. I bloody hope he wasn't stalking me!

And in the half an hour since I posted my last message on here, her husband has now appeared on my People you may know list!

It's definitely true. Someone came up on my 'people you may know' list, and we had no friends in common, and I know it's because he was looking me up. A lot... Confused

Yes it’s true. Facebook wants more people to connect so their network can grow. If you have visited someone’s profile after searching for their name it will then suggest you as s friend to them.

It also uses phone book contacts, emails and WhatsApp gathers name information so if you have had a conversation about someone and typed their full name it will pull it up on Facebook.

It also suggests people using the locations you frequent.

Eeeek.

It was bad enough years ago when Friends Reunited started up. I merrily looked at the profiles of (well, snooped on) old schoolmates/boyfriends etc, and then to my horror started receiving messages from some of them. They could see I'd been looking! I closed down my registration asap.

I'm sure it's true. I'll be looking at something online on Safari, and then suddenly the exact item pops up on FB, and I don't even 'like' the company.

I had my ex landlord's assistant come up on mine. No mutual friends or anything. It had been over 7 years since I lived in that house. I have no clue why she was on there unless it's from the syncing phone with fb? But I don't even have her personal number in my mobile, just their office. It's weird. I have never searched for her. Or the slumlord landlord. FB knows. It knows....

Oh crikey I hope not! I've recently been stalking accidentally clicked on an old friend with benefits and I do not want him to know I've been snooping!

It is true. I'd looked for my (now) DP but couldn't find him in searches. As soon as he'd said he'd found my profile, he came up on my suggestions list. Damn you fb!

A lot of times where items you look at on one website appear on Facebook via adverts is down to cookies.

In my old job (where I was dealing with the public at a counter, and they'd get to know my name from contracts and vice versa) I was not allowed to have my phone. It was two floors above me. I wasn't on any fb page to do with my job. It was a financial place. People weren't ''checking in''.

A lot of people are VERY reluctant to believe that searching for people makes you appear in their PYMK.

I have a long list of PYMK and of course, most of them have friends in common, or, even if they don't, I know who they are and it's not that surprising, but there are always a few inexplicables. Although, fewer now that I'm not working at a counter dealing with the public!!! There were about three a week back then! Now, unsurprisingly, not dealing with the public anymore and no inexplicable PYMKs

It's true.

One of my clients popped up on PYMK with no mutual friends. I found out he'd been stalking me through another medium around the same time (phoning up another client and asking about me). Lord knows why, I'm very uninteresting.

If I have a PYMK stalking session I deactivate my FB for a week or so and hope it forgets Blush

Definitely true - I stalked my best friend from primary school (she moved away after Y6 and we had no friends in common at all), and she sent me a friend request the next day, presumably because I'd popped up on her "people you may know" list. I was happy to reconnect with her and lucky to have been caught stalking in such an innocuous way!

Some people are getting confused.

This isn't about someone you've looked up appearing on your PYMK list, that's obvious, it's about whether you appear on their list and that isn't going to be soemthing you'd usually know unless they mention it or send you a friend request just after you've looked at their profile.

I’ve had the lead dentist as well as a GP come up on my suggested friends Shock

No friends in common and I certainly didn’t look them up. Neither of them are my actual dentist/doctor.

Has anyone else had similar?

The dentist appeared after a particularly difficult tooth extraction and I wondered if he was curious as to what I looked like going by my dental records but I was flummoxed by seeing a GP pop up too Confused

Facebook absolutely does this. Also. LinkedIn. Stalked a long-distant boyfriend on there. Found him. And guess what, after that, LinkedIn told me he'd then been looking at my account! Who's stalking who?! Internet is a bad ting,

Absolutely not true, but hey, why let that get in the way of what you think.
