It's definitely true. On the plus side, you can find out who's stalked you! Top tip for stalking: have your privacy settings sky high so that no-one except your friends can see anything about you. Or set up a fake account and stalk to your heart's content!

My GP suddenly popped up on the people you may know list, I was a little bothered by that but ignored it. I think it's highly unlikely that a GP would have the time or the inclination to stalk a patient, it's hardly professional.

I’m not sure whether that’s true or not but something I have noticed is whenever my partner is speaking to this girl I’m not friends with on there she comes up as a suggested friend. Could be a coincidence but I think not. Grin

of course, all social networking/including most search engines, keep track of all you do.this insane idea that you are in a little cocoon of privacy just astounds me.
grocery stores ,department stores ,any place you sign up for newsletters/mailing lists.reviews of bought items, anytime you do something online it is being sent to the cloud somewhere.alot gets sold to other entities and you appear on all sorts of "maybe connected/related to"lists.
this comment will show up on any search engine with the right search term

Yes it's true. If you stalk someone then FB will then suggest You for that person to add you as a friend. I did similar and was told it would happen

Only if you have friends in common!

Yes.

It's the work of the devil.

I'm certain it spies on you. I keep getting ads for properties near where I work, and I never mention work on FB, but it comes up on my work email, which is different from the one I use on FB.

How do they know?

There is enough doubt either way not to worry. The pp with a partner with an ex, well, obviously you are all linked in that sense.

People I have known, all have at least one friend I know. 7 degrees of separation and all that.

Doctor is easily explained, surgery has all your details I imagine. I am pretty sure you doc is not interested where you went Friday night... they know enough already Hmm

The other PP, have you or DH not looked up ANY property searches on your PC? Facebook will grab that and send relevant searches. You put your real address on your account?

It’s freaky at the moment. Someone I’ve only spoken to on an unrelated website has popped up on my suggested friends. No idea how that can be

It definitely does.

I stalked an ex boyfriend who now lives in a city I have never set foot in and I don't know anyone else who lives there.

We have NO friends in common and don't have any "groups" etc in common.

A few days later he messaged me out of the blue because I appeared on his fb feed as "someone you might know".

Don't do it!!!

Yes, you will show up on their facebook as a recommended friend if you stalk view them.

I saw an ex in the paper in a sporting event and decided to have a look at his facebook just to be nosey and see what else he was up to. We dont have any mutual friends.

I bumped into his Mum a few weeks later when visiting my parents and she commented what a coincidence it was that the ex had mentioned to her that I had been suggested as a friend on Facebook only 2 weeks previously. Blush

I've been very careful not to look for anyone since.

OW is blocked on my account but her teenage daughter appeared on my friend suggestions....it's obvious why.

Nope, it's not true. People just willingly fall into believing it is.

People who have stalked you definitely come up in your 'suggested friends' list. Either that or my ex husbands cousin in Australia who I've never even spoken to and have never been within a few thousand miles of and didn't even have facebook when I was still married wouldn't have shown up in mine.

It's true although I don't think that's always been the case. I got caught out big time stalking someone (well just having a nose) and it came back to bite me. No links to the person, different part of the country and we had never met or come across each other. I only had a name.

It can definitely access your contacts even if you haven't put your mobile number into Facebook.

I once exchanged numbers with someone, but not a full name. Within minutes they popped up in the people you may know, and I have never before put my mobile number into Facebook.

It's scary and I have since deactivated my account.

Yes, mine throws up all manner of peculiar people I've nosied at - I might click their profile on a news website - and voila, there they are in the 'people you might know' section.

But as DS works in social media I know exactly how it works. And online stalking is one of the ways your patterns are captured.

Olympia, but I imagine you registered for the site with an email address? This is easily obtained by facebook, anyone you talked to online may be a potential 'friend' Because I have 2 friends, DD and DH, facebook has stopped letting me see pages from my fisio, local pool and school until 'I add more friends' which I am not going to do.. They are bloody desperate.

bastardkitty · 01/10/2017 20:37

I don't know why you're lolling. It's absolutely true.

Report
thenightsky · 01/10/2017 20:37

Yeah... its sort of true. I put in details of friend's ex's DD. Her granny mentioned in conversation the DDhad said I'd shown up in her suggested list of friends.

Also, yesterday, I got a 'people you may know' which included the brother of DS's ex-gf. DS isn't on FB so I suspect he or his sister was searching our surname.
