I don't know if it never happens but it doesn't always happen iykwim.

I ended up with 2 facebook accounts on different email addreses, I only use one but have tested looking at both from the other and despite the fact that this was done using the same computer neither has ever been recommended as a friend to the other.

I don't think the facebook algorithms are clever enough only to suggest friends to embarass stalkers Grin

Those of you who are in denial refuse to believe it is true. How do you explain the things that have happened to so many of us posting? Mine upthread for example? When I first knew that ex bf mobile phones weren't even a thing. We have never worked at the same places and have no links at all.

How do you explain that I appeared on his people you might know straight after I decided to look him up on FB?

Or the other posters with very similar experiences?

WheresMyTaco · 01/10/2017 20:40

FB claim it's not true but FB are notoriously dodgy and don't believe a hint hey say

AuntieFester · 01/10/2017 20:42

Contacts in my email address come up as 'people you may know'. How does Facebook know who is in my contacts list? Not on.

squoosh · 01/10/2017 20:44

Facebook aren't exactly transparent with how things work so I can well imagine it is probably true.

happypoobum · 01/10/2017 20:44

This bloke wasn't in my email list - no idea of his email. And I have changed names twice since we last had any contact....

bastardkitty · 01/10/2017 20:44

I can't post the instance that proved it to me beyond all doubt because it relates to my work. But there is no doubt what happened. You may prefer to believe otherwise.

Whisky2014 · 01/10/2017 20:45

Yeh it's ture but if you go to your activity log and clear all your searches you should disappear from their list.

danTDM · 01/10/2017 20:47

And, they keep asking for me to add my mobile number and I took off swiftly where I went to at uni as hundreds of students in my year kept coming up. Some NEVER knew my name or were ever friend or even in the same year.

I deleted tha small piece of info quickly.

You are connected by ANYONE you have given your email address too/phone number. Be it docs/uni/websites/ex wives who have your bf's email/phone and now have yours/exfriends/clients.

Deffo people have been suggested to me from my old world wide company who wouldn't have a clue who I was. How does facebook even know I worked at that company? Because I have ignored friends requests from people I used to work with in London who worked for that company and maybe had dealing with JO Blogs in Singapore.

I honestly don't know Jo Blogs or have ever met him. My friend request did though.

RolfNotRudolf · 01/10/2017 20:47

I believe it is true -for reasons I'd rather not go in to Blush

LightastheBreeze · 01/10/2017 20:49

I’m on Facebook with a nickname, not my real name as I just use it if I want to complain to say a shop or something, I have no friends on it as I have no interest in it, and I just looked at people you may know and there are loads, some are DH family but most I have no clue who they are, I don’t know why they are there.

Yukbuck · 01/10/2017 20:49

auntiefester why is it not on? Its your choice to have your Facebook linked to your contact list. You can actively change it so that it isn't linked.
So many people get annoyed with Facebook and privacy etc.. but then don't regularly check their settings. I am constantly updating my privacy settings. It's part of the deal when you make an account.

pigletpie29 · 01/10/2017 20:50

I think it must know about emails or websites you've looked at - seeing as it suggested my I wanted to be friends with my dentist the other day (I did not!)

brieandcrackers · 01/10/2017 20:50

None of my friends believe me but I’m certain it’s true - often get old colleagues and bosses I haven’t seen for years on there despite not having mutual friends/their numbers/their email addresses/the same businesses listed in the ‘work’ section!!

I am a bit more careful with my FB stalking these days Grin

MotherofA · 01/10/2017 20:51

It is 100% true

Worriedrose · 01/10/2017 20:51

Is it the same for twitter or Instagram!

shouldnthavesaid · 01/10/2017 20:52

My dad came up on mine , and my linkedin.

We don't share a last name and haven't been within 200 mikes of each other in 20 years.

He admitted a while ago he was snooping.

Equally my GP's husband came up a while ago, and a couple of distant relatives. I reckon its people snooping.

MistyMinge · 01/10/2017 20:54

I fear it probably does happen. I've had a few suspect people pop up on mine. I hope I haven't been popping up on ex boyfriend's or their wives/girlfriends Blush

Yes it does. I use to spy on my ex on Facebook then one day all his friends who I have no friends in common with started to appear on my people you my know list, so I can only imagine it happens the other way aswell so I deleted my pic and changed my name to just my first and last initial lol

Dancingfairy · 01/10/2017 20:58

Why would your gps husband be snooping on you?? Lol

SemiNormal · 01/10/2017 20:58

Definitely true. My ex had an profile on there, no friends and a different surname. Popped up on my friends list - suspected it was him so got his new phone number from someone and when I entered it it was linked to that account.

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 01/10/2017 20:59

It's bollocks! Everyone on my 'people you may know list' are people who have mutual friends - every single one! There is no way random people who have ONE mutual friend will look me up - that one out of 300+ people on their friend's list.

People who say it's true are people who listen to gossip.

Stalk away! I do! I am nosey, think of people from long ago and naturally look them up!

Put it this way, if people who have stalked you come up on the 'stalkee's 'people you may know' then EVERYONE I know would be wondering why I am there and a few wouldn't hesitate to ask!
