To ask you how many towels you use?

Extremely mundane, I'm sorry!

Need to buy new towels for when my bathroom refurb is complete, but unsure how many to get Confused

There's only two of us in the house. Just now I have loads of mismatched ones, but they take up so much room, and I feel like I should cut down, but then I think I'll spend my weekends washing them and trying to get them dry. It's bloody hard enough trying to do two lots of bedding!

I'm genuinely baffled how households of more than mine manage. Please tell me!

In your position I'd want one hand towel and two bath towels in use and a spare set of the same.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 01/10/2017 18:28

6 bath towels and 4 hand towels between 2 of us. Do a load when have 4 used bath towels - i use 2 a week and dh 1 a week. 1 handtowel lasts a week. That is manageable and means we do not large piles of towels in airing cupboard

Out2pasture · 01/10/2017 18:28

retired couple here...we prefer one bath towel (the large ones) hung and used. I change them every couple of days and have 4 to rotate.
I dislike hand and face towels personally.

RoryGilmoreWasAwful · 01/10/2017 18:32

We have 2 hand towels per bathroom, 2 bath sheets and 2 bath towels per person. 2 bath mats per bathroom.

gandalfspants · 01/10/2017 18:33

I use a bath towel (hair) and a bath sheet (body) and have two sets, one in use one in the wash. DH uses a bath towel (all of him), again has two. DD has two cute towels with hoods.

--We also have loads of matching guest towels that live in the guest room and need replacing soon

Plus a few of hand towels in rotation for the downstairs loo.

I unashamedly use the tumble dryer in most weathers though, so drying isn't an issue.

peachgreen · 01/10/2017 18:34

We have two sets that we rotate on a weekly basis. A bath sheet each plus two hand towels and four flannels (as the hand towels get changed twice as often, and the flannels are washed daily). For guests I provide a bath sheet, a bath towel and a flannel each.

BiscuitsBathroom · 01/10/2017 18:44

Okay, thanks. Think I'll go for 3 hand towels each, and 3 bath towels each. One to use, one in the wash, and a spare for when all of those are actually getting washed.

I think I've got about 15 bath sheets/towels and about 10 hand towels. Baby has about 7/8 baby towels. We change the handtowels every couple of days, but I usually use them to mop the water up after the baby has splashed water everywhere.
Use a clean towel everyday.
I'm probably not helping ....

Rubybear · 01/10/2017 19:06

we change the hand towels every other day - we have about 10-15... we have loads... sorry I'm not helping either... :O

Fireinthegrate · 01/10/2017 19:08

Can I just add that if you're chucking out your old towels, you give them to a local animal charity. They're really useful to use for dogs and vats bedding etc.

dudsville · 01/10/2017 19:09

1 set in use, 1 set waiting for change over, one set for guests. They match. Once a week all the towels go in the washower and the other set come out. I come from a family who all keep dozens of towels (and bedding for that matter!) And I never wanted to go dien that route.

Notevilstepmother · 01/10/2017 19:14

We have 2 sets of one bath towel and one hair towel each, one set in use and one set in the wash.

We also have a beach/swimming towel each and a couple spare, and 4 hand towels and bath mats.

I don't wash towels every use, just when they need it.

JaceLancs · 01/10/2017 19:15

4 hand towels per bathroom
8 huge bath sheets
Plus beach towels and swimming/gym towels
4 handtowels in kitchen too
2-3 adults as DS and DD come and go

Notevilstepmother · 01/10/2017 19:15

Same with bedding, one set on the bed, one set in the wash or on the shelf.

paia · 01/10/2017 19:17

Between me and DH we have 3 matching sets of bath sheets, bath towels, hand towels.

Then a few plain white towels for guests, and baby DS has 2 hooded towels.

abigailgabble · 01/10/2017 19:21

you cannot have too many towels!! at least 3 for each application but i've got a baby so there's never enough

CheeseFlavouredDiscs · 01/10/2017 19:26

We needed loads of towels, until we got a tumble dryer. Now we have no problems keeping enough towels and bedding clean and dry. Assuming you don't already have one (apologies if you do!) a tumble dryer may help you to need less towels.

poisoningpidgeysinthepark · 01/10/2017 19:58

I use two small towels per week - the same one for showering and drying hands. My DH uses two enormous bath towels and a hand towel per day, plus several hand towels a week 'for his head' (he is bald).
He does his own washing.
