To ask for help with size 3 nappies

I know this isn't strictly an AIBU but am posting here for traffic.

Need some advice from those of you who have used a range of size 3 nappies.

My 12 week old has just moved up to size 3 nappies and I'm having a nightmare with leaks- nappies aren't lasting longer than 3 hours without soaking wet/through clothes. In size 1&2 we got on great with Tesco Loves Baby brand (we tried Aldi and Asda in 1&2 and found they leaked and weren't the right shape for him).

Now he's in size 3 I've tried both of the Tesco- Superfit (purple) and Ultradry (green). Both leak. The Superfit is particularly thin. Was recommended the Boots size 3 Superdry by a family member- got those this morning and they are almost identical to the Tesco Superfit- very thin and not very absorbent.

Have accepted I may have to bite the bullet and buy Pampers- but can't figure out which would be better, the Premium Protection, BabyDry or ActiveFit. What's the difference? The website isn't very clear!

Advice would be very much appreciated!

We found premium protection the best, especially for longer naps/over night!

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 01/10/2017 16:54

The only nappies we've found that haven't leaked are Asda Little Angels.

missarcher · 01/10/2017 16:55

Ops my bad it was the babydry ones we used for naps/over night! We used premium protection outside of those times tho

lelapaletute · 01/10/2017 16:56

Morrison's active are really good 😳

iamdivergent · 01/10/2017 16:57

Pampers Premium Protection are fantastic. I've only just stopped using them, having moved onto pull up nappies as my son is 15m

SilverAndCold · 01/10/2017 16:57

Thanks missarcher are the Premium a bit thicker than the BabyDry then?

userthenlotsofnumbers unfortunately Asda Little Angels didnt work for us! Wish they did as they're much cheaper than Pampers!

I’ve used Sainsbury’s own for both of mine and we’ve rarely had leaks here. The times they have are because I haven’t pulled the skirt but out properly, I haven’t tucked him in properly or I haven’t changed it in time.

SilverAndCold · 01/10/2017 16:58

Just seen your message- so the BabyDry are more absorbant than Premium?

SilverAndCold · 01/10/2017 16:59

I'm definitely putting them on right, making sure is pointing down, skirt/frills out etc. So is down to the sheer volume of his pee!

Babydry are for use up to 12 hours- we use these for overnight. We use premium protection ones during the day.

The size + has extra absorbancy in the same size- so we get the babydry 4+ for at night now and have found these don't tend to leak, though occasionally they have.

manglethedangle · 01/10/2017 17:11

Have you tried the asda ones in size 3? As they grow they change shape so different nappies fit at different times.

SilverAndCold · 01/10/2017 17:15

rarotonga do they do a 3 in + as it isn't showing as a size on boots or Asda website? I know I may sound daft but how come you use the Premium in the day if the Baby Dry is more absorbant? Are they a different fit?

Tried Asda in 3 mangle unfortunately not working for us.

The Pampers website has confused me because it's says 12hours on both the Premium and the Baby Dry!

Possibly a daft question but you are pulling the frilly bits out on the legs aren't you? Every time my DM changes a nappy she forgets to pull the frilly bits out and it ALWAYS leaks as a result.

Knitella · 01/10/2017 17:22

Are you using a vest to keep them in place (without they can sometimes sort of hang a little low between legs and let wee out leg holes). Also are you sure size 3 isn't too big?

SilverAndCold · 01/10/2017 17:26

Always pull frill out, point him down, am having to change minimum of every 3 hours even in night at the moment. He's definitely a 3- he's about 13 1/2 lbs, size 2 is way too tight on legs and stomach.

And always wears bodysuit vest under his babygrows

The chart on the website gives the Premium 3 stars for absorbency and the Baby Dry 2 stars?

I always found sainsburys to be much better than the others. Pampers were particularly crap for us. Try going up to a 4 as well of you need to.

munchkinmaster · 01/10/2017 18:15

We had issues with first baby so switched to baby dry, no such thing as premium then.

Second child used Aldi without problems

ambereeree · 01/10/2017 18:16

Try and go up to size 4.

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/10/2017 18:17

I size up when they start leaking. More nappy, more absorbant bit.

Subtlecheese · 01/10/2017 18:18

Aldi sell bamboo mio nappies. After 2 or 3 washes without any conditioners they are a fairly leak free nappy.
Obvious proviso being they're not intended to leave on for hours and hours on end like disposables.

Subtlecheese · 01/10/2017 18:18

They also will last you to potty training.

Orangebird69 · 01/10/2017 18:19

I've used pampers premium since birth and never had an overnight leak, even though I only ever changed ds at night for a soiled nappy. And headed every 2 bloody hours. Amazon do sone good deals on the smaller size premium protections. They aren't the cheapest even then but I'd prefer to pay a bit more than have to wash/change bedding all the time.
