Is it just me who thinks poundland shouldn't be allowed to sell items for more than £1. Why even bother call it poundland?

The price is clearly marked on everything in my local Poundland.

But the self-service tills are a
nightmare at Christmas it's Ho, Ho, Ho Merry Christmas that's Scanned would drive you to bloody drink.

hivemindneeded · 10/01/2022 23:46

But if they stuck to £1 they'd end up selling nothing but a few sweets and biros. Years ago you could get great things in there. Now it's just smaller sizes of usual shampoos etc. Prices have risen massively in the last ten years. If they want to keep selling good things, they have to raise some of the prices.

Squeezita · 10/01/2022 23:46

Poundland has had non-£1 things for years now though.

They had some 3 pin adaptor plugs a few months ago which were so handy in bedrooms as you could plug in lamp, charger etc without an extension lead.

They were £1 and I bought 3. I went to buy more a couple of weeks ago and they are now £3.50 each! Wish I’d bought more.

Hemingwayscatz · 10/01/2022 23:48

They should change the name really. It’s more of a crappy home bargains nowadays, I rarely go in.

PurpleRainlnTheSky · 10/01/2022 23:49

100% agree. Its whole USP was that everything was a pound, hence the name 'poundland.' So to be selling stuff for £2, £4, £6, £10 etc, is bang out of order IMO. They need to change their name. They are getting people in under false pretences.

PurpleRainlnTheSky · 10/01/2022 23:52

@Sequence

Some things aren't £1 at Poundland and some people aren't mothers on Mumsnet. I'm sure we can manage 😀
WTAF? Did you even think how nasty this is, before you posted this shitty comment?
CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 10/01/2022 23:54

Beware of the zombie. It might cost more than £1

jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 11/01/2022 00:10

Savers and Wilkos are often cheaper and better

Whatup · 11/01/2022 01:19

It's just where I get everything I can't get a Aldi but I also have tt

Whatup · 11/01/2022 01:19

Sorry typo I also have to go to boots too for some bits.

Heyiam · 11/01/2022 03:02

Does everyone expect the pack size to get smaller to guarantee paying the same price?!I started a business and almost 3 years ago and I offfer a smaller package at a similar price yet the price I charge for the same product is higher now. I believed this is inflation? No?

nalabae · 11/01/2022 03:33

Agree some things are a fiver in Poundland

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/01/2022 06:32

they even have note books for £1.50
very annoying and not clear

Trumpton · 11/01/2022 07:00

Just to throw my pennyworth in …did you know that Marks and Spencer started as a Penny Bazaar? “ Don’t ask the price….it’s a penny. “

Trumpton · 11/01/2022 07:16

PS. Poundland in the Isle of Man is called DEALZ and the core price is £1.20.

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2022 07:41

Fiverland lol yeh it's going that way!

And will end up as Tenner Town.

billyt · 11/01/2022 08:19

Ours was originally a 99p store.

Immediate price increases Grin

The back of our local one is also a pep & Co. Neve ventured into that part but noticed last week they've now put gaps in the aisles so you can cross over and that the clothing seems to be creeping over more of the shopping area.

I used to pop in if walking by just to see what I could get for £1. Gardening gloves, filler knives, etc. I was looking for some small hooks last week, thought they'd have some for £1. Nope, they had Gorilla type for £3.

HISTORY HERE

Boots (the chemist as it used to be called) was a penny pharmacy bringing cheap medicine to the masses
AlphabetStew · 11/01/2022 21:53

Might be a zombie thread but the subject is still relevant. FWIW in Ireland it's called Dealz - clearly a better long-term choice as it doesn't lock them into a price. The core price point is €1.50 but, same as Poundland, prices vary. I have some Pep & Co tops that are perfectly alright quality. Have washed and worn a few times.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 11/01/2022 22:20

I went into Boots at the weekend and they sell loads of different things but NO BOOTS. I won't be going there again.

I was disappointed too. when I went to the Air Lingus desk, but I won't say what I was expecting there. Blush
