Poundland

Is it just me who thinks poundland shouldn't be allowed to sell items for more than £1. Why even bother call it poundland?

Yes it's annoying coz you expect everything in there to be £1.

I'm sure there must be some law against it as they are advertising it as Poundland then things aren't £1. However it's a massive company so there's probably a nice loop hole for them to exploit.

DriveInSaturday · 30/09/2017 21:23

Poundworld has started to have items that cost more than a pound as well.

And you have to watch for value in Poundland too. Last week they had Mr Kipling apple pies for £1, while they were 80p in Tesco.

Dancingfairy · 30/09/2017 21:24

Fiverland lol yeh it's going that way!

Saladd0dger · 30/09/2017 21:25

It really annoys me! The same with everything5pounds website, £80 handbags come up instead of £5 items

Dancingfairy · 30/09/2017 21:29

So they are clearly advertising as everything £1 for the people saying they aren't!

I go in there to buy things for a pound no more! Poundworld are doing the same so annoying!!!!

NapQueen · 30/09/2017 21:36

They also say on their website and in store that they sometimes sell other things or have promotions which are more than one pound.

Dancingfairy · 30/09/2017 21:37

Well then they should change the name

Not Poundland but poundworld went in there the other day no prices on anything. Lady at the till had the area behind of full stuff people had rejected because it wasn't a £1. They seem to be moving away from the £1 also. Even she was wincing at the prices as she said them, said she had, had some abuse that day from unhappy customers Sad I think it's extremely cheeky of these businesses to not advertise that they are no longer £1 shops.

PlatformNineAndThreeQuarters · 30/09/2017 21:43

Yeh that's true of loads of stuff, it's a trick to make you think you're getting a bargain because if it's in there it must be more expensive somewhere else but that just ain't true

Divingheadfirst · 30/09/2017 21:43

Yes! Took DS in, told him to pick any toy thinking they were all a pound. He picked £10 lego!!

KrytensNanobots · 30/09/2017 21:44

There's obviously nothing wrong with selling things for more than a pound. If you base your whole shop on the whole premise that everything's a pound and then decide to change it while still calling it Poundland, it's not surprising people are going to be caught out and/or miffed about it!

CherryCheese · 30/09/2017 21:46

It must be how they make a profit. There are loads of things in Poundland that are a pound but you can get them cheaper elsewhere .

londonrach · 30/09/2017 21:46

Where you all going. My poundland makes it vvvv obvious the one or two items not a pound

hidinginthenightgarden · 30/09/2017 21:47

PoundWORLD are worse. I went in today and at least half the stuff wasn't £1 and was hard to tell what was. When looking at food items where the labels were mixed up it was impossible to tell the price of things.

RebootYourEngine · 30/09/2017 21:48

When pound shops first opened people used to take the mick and ask how much stuff was. Now you genuinely have to ask how much things are because not everything is a pound anymore.

Sequence · 30/09/2017 21:49

Inflation means there will be fewer and fewer things you can get for a pound over time. Obviously it makes a mockery of their name if much of the stock isn't £1 but as a business decision it's presumably either swallow their pride on the name and put prices up anyway, or fold.

missarcher · 30/09/2017 21:51

@Saladd0dger really? I'm a serial shopper on everything £5 and never seen that happen! Same goes for less the £10

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/09/2017 21:52

What is Pep and Co?

missarcher · 30/09/2017 21:52

@MyDcAreMarvel a super cheap clothing store (think primark but crappier)

Ohwell14 · 30/09/2017 21:55

Theimpossiblegirl

I think we live in the same town. Mine has a random pep & co too

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/09/2017 21:56

Thanks for explaining.

Dancingfairy · 30/09/2017 21:56

I had never heard of pep and co like I said. The clothes are nasty very cheap I don't even entertain it but it's taken over half of my local poundland. (And no the clothes aren't £1 either)

DancingFairy

You're not talking about Uxbridge are you? Completely mystifying what they've done to that store!

Giraffey1 · 30/09/2017 22:08

Think it was Poundland that used to have signs everywhere saying 'no need to ask the price, everything's a pound!' I agree it's a bit annoying that these days, everything isn't a pound. You do need to shop wisely, too - as others have said, products are sometimes cheaper elsewhere.
