DH and I were online looking at holidays last night. We check overall TripAdvisor ratings, then look at the terrible reviews to see what people really dislike.

Quote (one star rating): "This is the third Time I Have stayed at this hotel and is has not improved"
GrinGrinConfused

Is this the eternal optimist?!

I do this. I saw one today for the Golden Gate Bridge that said "Its just this red bridge" Grin.

Also loads of people complaining they got busted for not paying the toll.

Cantseethewoods · 30/09/2017 12:10

Alcatraz - "Honestly I don't understand why Alcatraz seems to be a tourist magnet. We didn't do a boat tour but saw it from Pier 39. I mean you see a prison in the water-that's it.. nothing special, nothing great.."

Groovee · 30/09/2017 12:12

I read one review of the hotel we stayed in which said it wasn’t suitable for children or British people. Yet they had an entertainment team who were there all day every day doing lots of things, there was a small playpark and there was plenty food that brits would have eaten. I think they forgot they were in Spain!

Anasnake · 30/09/2017 12:12

'The Sun moved so for half the day our sunbeds were in the shade'
'The sea had seaweed in it'
These were both for the lovely little hotel we've stayed at several times.

honeylulu · 30/09/2017 12:24

I love the reviews that go "The food was disgusting, I could hardly eat any of it, and it was all so greasy and stodgy I put on over half a stone..."

TheSnowFairy · 30/09/2017 12:24

About Windsor Castle:

'I hate this place. I admit that August is a stupid time to go to a big tourist attraction, but nonetheless the centre of Windsor is soooo crowded. The line to get into the castle went around the corner. It may be that the dreadful parking and traffic situation in Windsor is also not the fault of the castle, but then again if there was no castle in Windsor there'd be no traffic and parking would be a dream'

Confused you think?!

I have to add my husband is a holiday moaner. In one occasion he complained that the birds tweeted too loudly in the morning

MagentaRocks · 30/09/2017 12:27

Sometimes the terrible review make up my mind to go somewhere. If you have people complaining about forrin muck at meal times etc, or the bar only open until midnight or whatever. Makes it more my kind of place!

Jonsnowsghost · 30/09/2017 12:30

For Alton towers

Bought tickets online but we broke down on the way there and didn't have enough time to go so ended up loosing £80 not impressed at all

How is that Alton towers fault Confused

jaseyraex · 30/09/2017 12:36

These are the kind of people that moan about the sand being too hot 😀

Allthebestnamesareused · 30/09/2017 12:49

I saw one day for Marrakech saying they did't tell them that tge excursion to the High Atlas Mountains would involve a 30/40 climb up to a waterfall. They had had a knee op recently! If they had known they could have worn appropriate footwear or not gone.

Really surely not a climb up on a mountain trip!

I agree with the poster who says some of the 'negatives' are positives for us!

FineSally · 30/09/2017 13:01

the ones that put me off are where the owner/proprietor makes themselves look a right twat by answering every criticism in a sarcastic way trying to make out it wasn't a valid complaint.

My best so far is seeing a comment that stated that a 25p discount for over 65's wasn't worth having. Their response? "You are quite correct, so next year there will be no concessionary rate, just an adult only ticket."

TheSnowFairy · 30/09/2017 13:48

'I agree with the poster who says some of the 'negatives' are positives for us!'

Me too. That's why we check the terrible ones Grin

I always check the poor/terrible reviews. It often involves sunbeds, WiFi speed or the bar being closed. One guy was complaining about lack of choice on breakfast croissants.
These reviews are useful, as if that's the worst that can be said, the hotel must be ok.

ClashCityRocker · 30/09/2017 14:06

My favourite ever review was headed up 'les miserable? It should have been called The Miserables'

And then a moan about how depressing the musical was, when he'd expected it to be quite jolly, as most musicals are.

ClashCityRocker · 30/09/2017 14:46

Obviously that wasn't a holiday...

Agree with pp who always look at the negative reviews.

Also saw a 1 star review of a restaurant - reviewer said the food was great, staff friendly, but it was too far out of town and the taxi overcharged.

Brittbugs80 · 30/09/2017 15:09

I read one for a hotel in Tenerife and they literally complained about everything in the room, the TV channels were in Spanish, there was no settee to watch TV on, the pool area was noisy in the day, there was lizards roaming round by the beach, it was cloudy and the splashing in the pool was too loud!

I find it funny the things that some people complain about, especially when they are visiting abroad and can't get over the TV having Spanish channels in Spain!

Frazzled2207 · 30/09/2017 15:23

I once worked for a travel firm and got a negative review from a client who'd been on a trip to France.
Reason? The hotel had a french breakfast of croissants and french breads rather than a full English

loveka · 30/09/2017 15:30

"Too many Greek people" - it was Greece.
"The shower is only a hair shower"- listing states "please note, the bath has a hair shower only".
"There is no washing machine in the property, which is a must have for me."- listing states "sorry, no washing machine".

TheSnowFairy · 30/09/2017 15:48

'Also saw a 1 star review of a restaurant - reviewer said the food was great, staff friendly, but it was too far out of town and the taxi overcharged.'

Exactly the sort of review that would a) sell the place to me and b) be doubly grateful that idiots like that wouldn't be coming back Grin

There's a list of the funniest bad holiday reviews out there but I can't find it. Grr! I remember it included "The beach is too sandy" and the usual moronic Brits moaning that there were too many forreners serving them forren food.

Will keep trying and hopefully post a link later.

Timeywimey8 · 30/09/2017 16:12

What's a hair shower?

Timeywimey8 · 30/09/2017 16:13

Oh one of the converter kits. That is a bit rubbish. But if it's in the listing...

spanieleyes · 30/09/2017 17:01

How about, for the Coloseum
"Needs renovating"
