AIBU to not want to store a cabin bag I have no room for for 9 months?

Sil wants to leave a cabin case of excess luggage at ours when they move to Canada. For mil to take back next year, so in nearly 9 months. We are in a tiny london flat with a ds and have nowhere to put the case away. It would drive me bananas. Would it be unreasonable of me to say no? (And suggest they mail it, which could cost up to £100 I guess )

yanbu.

alltouchedout · 28/09/2017 15:32

Yanbu at all.

CotswoldStrife · 28/09/2017 15:32

Could you pass it on to your MIL pretty quickly instead? Do they want it at yours because you are nearer the airport?

AuntieStella · 28/09/2017 15:33

No, not for 9 months.

Yes until MIL can get it (or you can take it to her).

And I think if it can go directly to MIL without going near your flat, that would be best.

Ilovecoleslaw · 28/09/2017 15:33

Yanbu

Ellendegeneres · 28/09/2017 15:34

Tell her to store it with mil.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 28/09/2017 15:35

Have you seen this company? They are the cheapest I've found and very reliable. If you weigh the suitcase you could work out easily how much it would cost to send. I don't blame you for not wanting to hold on to it - space is everything in a London home!

Abetes · 28/09/2017 15:37

Just say that you don't have the space.

Mil lives in Australia , I was trying to write a short post! So a bit under 9 m is when they think they are are next visiting london, but they don't know I will be almost 9 m pregnant then so actually we will out that visit off!

mybrilliant I did look up options! That one could be up to £150 , I think they'd balk at that. This one seems cheaper and I might suggest it www.parcel2go.com . Or they could book an extra baggage allowance for their flight. much easier to inconvenience us though

I know someone who used and online suitcase company to send their luggage to Italy (and back) whilst travelling by train. Worked fine.

timeisnotaline · 28/09/2017 15:49

Sorry - sending it home would be australia. Not Canada . I don't mean to be confusing! They are only going to live In Canada for 6 months I think.

Why can't she just take it with her and pay the excess? Not a life-changing amount, is it? Seems really tight to me, to expect you to have it for 9 months in order to save a bit.
If you don't have room, I think you're perfectly entitled to say so.

If they're insisting on you talking it, you could use it as your hospital bag!

But if you really have no room, and they insist on you talking it, just "lose it" to a homeless persons charity.

Or eBay it and send them the money?

SouthWindsWesterly · 28/09/2017 16:10

Tell them to look how to break it down into smaller items and send by sea mail. The smaller the package plus by sea will make it cheaper

timeisnotaline · 28/09/2017 16:36

Ginny Grin that might sour the relationship... If a 'no, we don't have room' sours the relationship then that's on them I think.

YANBU.

GinnyWreckin · 29/09/2017 11:17

Maybe you could put it in a lost property room of a local hotel, or train station. Have a label in the bag so that whoever "owns" it can collect it when they return?
Have you short term storage lockers nearby?

timeisnotaline · 29/09/2017 20:20

You're good at this @ginnywreckin Grin. Dh has actually told them no which is good! His first response was never mind darling let's hope it's not too big.
