To really miss smoking?

MissAlabamaWhitman · 27/09/2017 21:17

I just really, really miss it.

Haven't actually smoked for years, I know it stinks and it kills you unless you're lucky and you die of something else , its a waste of money and suddenly extremely socially unacceptable.

Still......

It was great.....

I miss it, really badly. Another who has given up cold turkey due to pregnancy and breastfeeding. I also know if I went back to it, I'd never stop again. It was great though, apart from being smelly and causing health issues of course.

I miss my coffee and smoke mornings, I miss the social aspect of it, miss having a reason to step away from awkward/stressful situations for five minutes, miss my 'thinking time' (always could get a better idea of something when mulling it over a cigarette), miss my waistline that never went over a 12 when smoking.

If I'm lucky enough to reach 80, and they haven't been completely banned, I'm going to start again (with plenty of good booze). It will probably kill me but most people don't get a 'nice death' anyway. Might as well enjoy my last few years as a smokey lush!

YoureAnArseholeDenise · 28/09/2017 09:42

I gave up easily using Allen Carr.

I never miss it. No withdrawal symptoms at all. And I bloody LOVED smoking.

I sometimes dream I’m smoking. In the dream I’m gutted. The relief when I wake up and realise it was just a dream is amazing.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/09/2017 13:12

I miss it.
I don't think I'll ever do it in the daytime again but maybe on a night out with certain friends. Whenever I walk past a person smoking I take a big gulp of manky brown air just for old time's sake. I think deep down what I miss is being young and carefree and having no responsibilities and not having to care whether it killed me because I was young and free with no responsibilities. Things are different now.

InappropriateGavels · 28/09/2017 13:35

Ex-smoker for five years, quit with Allen Carr too. Went through a really shitty time in life recently and so many times I thought about buying just a 10 pack. I mean, what harm could it do, just one?

And those times, late summer when you're outside with a good alcoholic drink, the sun is setting but it's still warm...of course that would be a perfect time to have a fag. Yeah, I miss it.

I genuinely do not know what has stopped me from buying a 10 pack of JPS menthol cheapest blue over the past couple of months.

backOffSunshine · 28/09/2017 14:04

12 years clean but still miss it sometimes.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 28/09/2017 14:12

I need to give up, I can't though or I struggling to. I've done it before easily gone cold turkey, getting pregnant was great as I took instant dislike for smoking but that not a option.

I'm weak in quitting even smoked whilst having patch attached.

Or maybe I just holding off for the ban of menthol cigarettes, that still happening? As I can't smoke normal cigarettes

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/09/2017 14:53

Inappropriate you can't buy 10's of anything anymore! That's partly what stops me having a secret one for old times sake. 20 is too many to have around and too expensive to throw away.

Headinthedrawer · 28/09/2017 14:58

It's taken me 10 years to finally not want to have a fag when I see other people smoking when we are out.Now it feels like a disgusting thing to do and I really, really don't want one.10 years! Finally!

Skinandbones · 28/09/2017 15:04

I stopped 5 years ago, I have so much anxiety issues I'm on tablets, often wonder if they would go if I started again. Just can't afford it, and unlike some ppl I can't just have one and then give up again. I really miss a cuppa, sit down and a cig.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 28/09/2017 15:07

Remember when I could buy 20red band for 99p. We used to go halves at school.

Badbadtromance · 28/09/2017 15:17

I gave up four years ago and would love a fag!!

Strokethefurrywall · 28/09/2017 16:23

I hate smoking now but I bloody love vaping.

Funny that when I quit cold turkey, I would still crave the odd cigarette. Now that I'm vaping, the idea of a cigarette makes me heave.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure if I was on a night out and absolutely twatted, I'd probably indulge but then would hate it (and myself).

I'm a bit of a health nut 95% of the time and my only vice is vaping - figure there's no point fasting, cutting out sugar/alcohol/processed food etc if I'm going to smoke. Also, I'm absolutely terrified of cancer.

I'm glad I don't miss it though, I hated that voice in my head saying "oh go on, just one won't hurt" because when I fell for it, all I felt was guilt and terror and I would then fight with myself to quit again.

WashBasketsAreUs · 28/09/2017 16:26

Gave up in February/March as I'd been really ill with suspected pneumonia. Since then I've had an e cig and lozenges.
Husband gave up as well and also had an e cig. Occasionally we've bought the odd packet, smoked them and not got into the " buying one more packet" frame of mind.
However, I walk past the garage EVERY DAY and think I could just nip in and buy some, no one will know, but I don't.

We bum the occasional one from friends who smoke although we've not got that many who do now.
In my head I keep saying I'll buy some tomorrow, but tomorrow never comes! Still miss it tho.

Justchillaxing · 28/09/2017 16:28

I vape now. I had a few fags in the summer and they tasted awful so I'm happy to carry on vaping. It's not the nicotine .. I'm vaping 0% nicotine. It's the action ... it feels like I'm smoking I guess. It helps anyway, when life's as tough as it is now. No one who hasn't smoked will what understand how hard it is.

Frogtits · 28/09/2017 16:33

I was never a heavy smoker, but enjoyed a cigarette when out. At the most, I smoked five a day.

What put me off was an advert on the radio that said fags can damage your ability to smell and taste food.

I still enjoy a cigarette now and then.

My MIL was a lifelong heavy smoker and it killed her in the end - her lungs were destroyed and she got cancer. She also had high blood pressure and several small strokes as well as life threatening chest infections.

That has put me off ever taking up smoking again

astoundedgoat · 28/09/2017 16:49

Loved it. And I have asthma too (v mild) which makes it even less sensible. Oh well. It's been 15 years now...

dontquotem3 · 28/09/2017 17:17

Have fallen off my wagon after 3 years, it's disturbing how my old routines have just fallen back into place. I have mixed feelings about smoking again.

queenofthedump · 28/09/2017 17:20

I gave up about 15 years ago and was never ever even a 'proper' smoker - only socially really.

Occasionally I get a whiff of smoke walking down the road and it takes me back to such a fun and carefree time of my life. I think that's what I miss.

DeadButDelicious · 28/09/2017 19:09

I do miss it. Especially Marlboro reds. I think the only thing that stops me some days is the fact the cheapest are nearly £9 a pack. I remember getting 10 for £1.50!

My grandad lived to be in his 90's. If I make it that far I am SO starting up again.

amusedbush · 28/09/2017 19:25

I quit four years ago and I still miss it. I vape now, which helps, but it's not the same.

However, MIL recently passed away from complications of a health condition exacerbated by smoking so I'd never start again. DH would be heartbroken as he begged his mum for years to quit.

MrsJayy · 28/09/2017 19:33

Dh said he is going to buy and smoke a packet once the mortgage is paid 😁

InappropriateGavels · 28/09/2017 20:26

thenewaveragebear1983 I've been out of the game for too long, I didn't know they'd got rid of 10 packs. You're right that 20s are too expensive to chuck away and too many to have around just to have the odd one, the temptation would be too much. I'd know the pack was there, so I'd probably just smoke them.

Now, one of those tiny pouches of tobacco, have they done away with those yet?
