To really miss smoking?

MissAlabamaWhitman · 27/09/2017 21:17

I just really, really miss it.

Haven't actually smoked for years, I know it stinks and it kills you unless you're lucky and you die of something else , its a waste of money and suddenly extremely socially unacceptable.

Still......

It was great.....

Esp when you've had a vino or two... sniff sniff!!! 😳😊

Titsywoo · 27/09/2017 21:51

I gave up 9 months ago and most of the time I don't think about it. Every now and then I really miss it but it tends to pass pretty quickly. If I make it to be a grand old age I'll probably take it up again. And I'll drink at least one bottle of bubbles a day too. Makes the prospect of getting old less scary Grin.

Dextersilver · 27/09/2017 21:51

Please tell me how to stop... Sad

LadyLoveYourWhat · 27/09/2017 21:52

I was a 20 Rothmans a day girl, gave up doing Allen Carr, had a brief relapse during hard times and hated every cigarette. Still relieved to have given up the second time over 15 years ago, I can't imagine smoking ever again. Very occasionally I dream I've had a fag and wake up bitterly disappointed in myself!

Dextersilver · 27/09/2017 21:53

Posted to early. I have cut down to about 3 a day now. All in the evening when kids are in bed. How do I stop these last few?

Stoptherideiwannagetoff · 27/09/2017 21:54

Nooooooo! please don't say that - tell me it's a vile disgusting murderous habit and I won't miss it a bit and will become a zealous anti smoker immediately after the last puff! Still hanging on by the skin of (and nicotine on) my teeth. I need to stop but have zero willpower and keep buying "just one more" Confused

elQuintoConyo · 27/09/2017 21:54

I quit in August of 2000. I still crave a fag after lunch or with my morning coffee while reading the newspaper. Or out in the garden with a beer.

Mmmm cigarettes......

LadyLoveYourWhat · 27/09/2017 21:55

Dextersilver - have you tried Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking book? Did the trick for me. The shorter version if you have a choice.

MrsJayy · 27/09/2017 21:55

I did smoking cessation through my chemist patches and inhalator i switched to chewin gum that i still chew

elephantoverthehill · 27/09/2017 21:57

Deuxter I have stopped smoking for about 4 years but I am still chewing nicotine gum. Several attempts to stop previously but I would not go back now.

Tulipblank · 27/09/2017 21:59

I love the freedom being a non smoker gives you. Not having to plan your day around cigarettes. Not being sat in meetings desperate to leave. Hiding from my children outside in the rain to have that last day before going out for the day.

It's much better being a non smoker.

Dextersilver · 27/09/2017 21:59

I have never tried anything but cold turkey.

I often wake up at night terrified after dreaming that I am dying and having to tell the kids... Sad It's really playing on my mind now. Then the urge kicks in and I just give in and "have a few" blurgh!

I am 30 in 10 months time and I want to feel fit fresh and ready for life!

Dextersilver · 27/09/2017 22:04

The sad thing is I did give up for 2 years, maybe slightly more but I was continuously pregnant and breastfeeding so it seemed easy. I need to think of the children.
I may try gum then. Thank you for the responses.

Imagine what it's like to have never smoked!

elQuintoConyo · 27/09/2017 22:05

DP were at a terribly boring (sorry friends Blush) wedding and smoked a packet each plus scabbing of others- not terribly classy. The next day the nicotine hangover was horrendous and we STANK! And our room stank, our hair stank, our skin stank - despite showering together a couple of times each. Boaktastic.

So that was that. Cold turkey. Never regretted it. I have had perhaps three since then. DH has had a few more, but they have all been around the illness and death of him DM, so easily forgiveable.

Neither of us has bought a whole packet. We also have only two friends who smoke! Blimey i have just realised that. Wow. (Wow to me, obvs!)

MrsJayy · 27/09/2017 22:05

Me and He were talkng about that tulip we were away at the weekend with our adult kids and we were not worrying about smoking areas or having 2 fags one after the other just because we might not be able to find a smoking spot it is freeing

andpeggy29 · 27/09/2017 22:07

I gave up (completely cold Turkey not had a vape, cigarette or nicotine replacement since April ) 5 months ago. And I'm really proud that I gave up, and in the way that I did it!

I keep having dreams every now and again where I've smoked a cigarette, then I feel terrible about slipping up, and then I wake up worrying if I've really done it! I think it helps reassure me that I've done a good thing giving up. The guilt of failing is motivation enough to keep me on the straight n narrow.

But OMG I BLOODY MISS IT! Especially a super king menthol on the long drive home through the country from work

bigtapdancingpimp · 27/09/2017 22:08

I'm a Saturday smoker. Go all week eating lentils, running and doing yoga/pilates but come the weekend I'm having a glass of wine and the fags come out.

No one can understand how I do it but I just don't enjoy smoking unless I have a drink Confused

SaucyJack · 27/09/2017 22:08

I don't miss real smoking at all, but I'm a joyful vaper- which is basically cheating at giving up smoking:

MissAlabamaWhitman · 27/09/2017 22:10

I only managed to give up via pregnancy and breastfeeding;

That's why I can't start again.
I'm done having children so I'd be a terminal smoker I coined that phrase I think

I do vape but it's not even remotely similar and strangely rather nauseating 😁

I'm considering going old school and buying some nicotine gum for driving.

I miss pootling round in my P reg Micra flicking fag ash out the window....

HolgerDanske · 27/09/2017 22:12

No not at all. I really miss sugar/carbs, and it's only been one day!

WineAndTiramisu · 27/09/2017 22:14

God I miss it.

However I'm a stop start smoker, but adamant I'm not starting again this time...

Dextersilver · 27/09/2017 22:14

I love rolling cigarettes... The lick of the rizzla... The tap tap tap on the lighter before indulging...

I need to stop.

OH capes but I can't see that helping me as he now capes more than he smoked!

Dextersilver · 27/09/2017 22:15

Vapes god damn it

MrsA2015 · 27/09/2017 22:18

Try the herbal ones in holland and after. They'll definitely put you off!
