Grin the kids seem to think it's a great name... Surely Billy is fine? Apparently we are going to register him as William at the vet Shock

I changed my cats' surnames when I got married. One of them is known as Alfie in everyday life, but Alfred when he's being naughty.

Wheresmytaco · 27/09/2017 17:08

Go for William. It will look better in his CV.

You can't trust a mouser called billy

soupforbrains · 27/09/2017 17:10

It will look better in his CV
Grin Grin Grin

CaoNiMartacus · 27/09/2017 17:10

Mine is Sir Alfred Lord Tennyson, known as Alfie.

Horses4 · 27/09/2017 17:12

I did also have a cat called Moff named after Danny Dyer in Human Traffic. Couldn't bring myself to tell vets so his vet name was Moffat 😂

RiversrunWoodville · 27/09/2017 17:12

Oh yes you can! We have a turkey called Hile Sir Roland (gets Roland), a cat called Jacquetta Bess Surname (Jacquetta) and a dog called simply called Oy

Wheresmytaco · 27/09/2017 17:12

Actually our cat from childhood had a "younik" spelling. Mn would not approve.

It was most embarrassing correcting the vet.

No, M-O-O-F-I-N with two Os not Muffin with a U.
Moo fin.

dodobookends · 27/09/2017 17:13

We had a cat called Billy - he wouldn't answer to that name, but much preferred "Will".

didofido · 27/09/2017 17:16

My whippet x greyhound came from the rescue kennel called Oz. He told us his proper name is Ozvaldino Gambi-Lungi. So, of course, we call him that. Sometimes.

RhiannonOHara · 27/09/2017 17:17

I really want a cat anyway, always just so I can give it a splendid formal name.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/09/2017 17:20

Oh yes you can and should because it's brilliant

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/09/2017 17:21

And my cat had not one, but two middle names...Grin

Nonibaloni · 27/09/2017 17:23

You're all crackers! Why don't your pets have full names.

I have Tiger Cherry [my surname], Penguin Avacado [blended surname] and Paisley Apricot [blended]. Full name at vet and insurers.
I would like to add there are 2 Tiger [surname] at the vet so I insist on tr middle name.

Lotsawobblybits · 27/09/2017 17:24

My DF had a cat called Jayne & a beloved big ginger tomcat called Clint Van Surname.

When Clint died he insisted on burying him in the garden, but got stung by a Bee in the process and went into analytical shock....not the best day!

William is a fine name Smile

2 yrs later, and this still makes me giggle in an unseemly manner.

To think we can't call our cat "William - known as Billy"?
abigailgabble · 27/09/2017 17:25

our cat was called Kitty but we called him Sampson at the vet so they would take him Seriously. he was a one eyed farm cat and Sampson was he most cat name that popped into my head on the spot Grin

abigailgabble · 27/09/2017 17:27

@Horses4 no I did! (er do, sorry Bob)

StigmaStyle · 27/09/2017 17:28

Billy's a lovely name for a cat, he can be William at the vet, why not?

Comedy bloke names are almost de rigeur for pets now. I've known of cats called Dave, Nigel and Jim and a dog called Norman.

Love "Colin Parker" :o

Bettercallsaul1 · 27/09/2017 17:33

My cat is Theodore Tertius Aloysius Surname. We don't let him mix with just any tom Dick or Harry

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 27/09/2017 17:38

strangestdirection,
"13Bastards - Your username has now inspired me to go and do a name change to Curse These Metal Hands or All the Whores of Malta."

Skim-reading posts too quickly...thought that "Curse These Metal Hands or All The Whores of Malta" was your pet's name in full!
Would make for fun times in the vet's waiting room. Grin

TheDonald · 27/09/2017 17:40

My cat is called Professor Minerva McGonagall.

She is Minnie for short but she really suits her full name better.

ShotsFired · 27/09/2017 17:42

How about Billiam as a compromise?

You can say its yooneeq.

bengalcat · 27/09/2017 17:43

William is a lovely name . I inherited a cat a long time ago called Galahad and then added to the family calling a brown cat Cappucino ( the later raised the vets eyebrow lol )

LadyChatterleysKnickers · 27/09/2017 17:45

Of course you can. My crew are officially named lovely things but actually get called Lady McBeth, Mr Man and Herbert.

We had a neighbour who was forever saying exasperatedly "Oh shut up Dave.... Dave, get in here.... Oh Dave...." - we thought he had a very difficulty housemate. Then the fence blew down one day and we discovered it was a very lovely staffie.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 27/09/2017 17:45

Recently read that "Jude Paw" is currently a popular punning cat name.

And I still like the old favourite "Chairman Miaow".

OP, William is fine: noble and strong.
