Dental apt at 4pm - how to prevent gag reflex?

I'm dreading it. I know I'll gag and possibly vomit. Anything I can do to help myself or anything I can ask dentist to do or not to do?

Vicks, Olbas Oil, or similar, under yer nose. Works a treat. Also wiggle your toes. Concentrate on your toes.

Don't have vicks or olbas oil. Will do the toes thing. I do that when having injections or blood taken.

All done now. Dentist was really good telling me what to do. I only struggled when he put some contraption in my mouth to xray my back teeth. I wiggled my toes like my life depended on it lol.

Aw, glad to know it went well. A good dentist is more than half the battle! I only gag with impressions but hate having an x ray as I have a really narrow mouth and that contraption they use, really hurts. I've had a root canal on an infected tooth and never felt a thing. But xrays make me want to run for the hills.

Have to go back for fillings in 3 weeks. Awful sad.

Bit late now but make a fist with your left hand and squeeze the thumb into your palm. I heard that somewhere once and I don't know if it's the placebo affect or what but it seems to work at lessening it really well.

Sounds simplistic but slow counting down from 10 in my head always helps me

TiesThatBindMe · 26/09/2017 22:23

I am taking all your suggestions with me.
