To think the reason I can't get divorced is ridiculous?

Me ex wants me to hand over a rare vinyl I'm not even sure I have anymore. Or he won't agree to the financial arrangements. It cost about £10 when we bought it about 7 years ago.

OP posts:
Chewbecca · 26/09/2017 16:47

I'd happily check our record collection too & post it to you if it helps!

BewareOfDragons · 26/09/2017 16:52

Either go with the facebook idea and embarrass the hell out of him, or stick to two sentences: "I cannot give what I don't have. I will be telling the judge how unreasonable you are being about this.."

SukiTheDog · 26/09/2017 16:55

Bloody hell. Find the thing. Have it valued. Then decide whether he can have it.

Hope you enjoy your post-divorce life 😊

StickyProblem · 26/09/2017 16:55

I used to listen to the guy on LBC who valued vinyl and I agree with Elendon, even stuff that you'd think is really rare is usually worth £25.

Flowers and good luck getting shot of the twat.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/09/2017 16:59

I have never deployed vinyl in a financial hostage situation

'm pleased to hear it Guilty - that would be sacrilege - like selling your babies to gypsies and using the money to buy a DonaldTrump mask.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/09/2017 17:01

I assume he took all his stuff with him - if so why didn't he take said record

I wonder if he has and is just being a total vindictive twat, knowing that OP can't fulfil his demands.

guilty100 · 26/09/2017 17:03

Grin at Schadenfreude.

I have occasionally been tempted to hide DH's Mogwai and Godspeed You! records, on the grounds that there is already enough misery in the world... But that's not the same thing, right? Wink

tribpot · 26/09/2017 17:05

The worst thing is my solicitor telling me I have to agree to it.

Agree to what? So far I haven't heard the alternative - the choices are:

  • hand over a record you don't have

Your solicitor presumably doesn't think 'do not proceed' is an actual option so what's the counter offer? 25 quid? 50 quid? Do that and stop 'desperately' searching eBay - that's all he really wants out of this, is knowing that he's still able to yank your chain. Fuck him. You've had a look and the record is gone. Next case .

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 26/09/2017 17:14

Is there any need to get a divorce at the moment? If not, I would stick it out just to piss him off (this is however assuming that he has met someone else). Then make it his problem trying to get the divorce through. Then make a list of unreasonable demands like you'll only sign if you are witnessed by a monkey who is fluent in French Grin.

wellyclad · 26/09/2017 17:17

Is there any chance he secretly has and is using the whole thing as leverage?
I've watched too much Suits

Elendon · 26/09/2017 17:19

I like Mogwai misses point

Yes, my ex whom I divorced two years ago, I did post about this, recently asked for any CDs he left behind - he left several years ago. He obviously wasn't dickish enough to stress this in the divorce settlement because the judge would have actually, probably, maybe called him a dick.

I'm so enjoying listening to Bjork now - can you tell?

WalkingInMyShoes · 26/09/2017 17:19

This was the sort of shit my exH pulled. It's just to keep you where he wants you.
Tell him you don't have it and tough shit. If he wants to throw money at a solicitor over a piece of vinyl let him.

HeebieJeebies456 · 26/09/2017 17:28

Why are you even looking for it?

He has no proof he left it behind - so you say "I've checked and it isn't here - he must have took it with his other stuff considering it was valuable to him"

A judge is going to see this for what it is - him being a controlling arse so he doesn't have to pay up

JemimaLovesHamble · 26/09/2017 17:31

OP, just NC, put your thread in 30 days only (there may be one that self-deletes even sooner?) and list the title. I have a lot of 70s/80s vinyl I'm no longer invested in, I'm happy to check for it.

BritInUS1 · 26/09/2017 17:39

Post it then ask Mumsnet to delete that post

LaurieFairyCake · 26/09/2017 17:40

When my ex left he left his copy of Kylie Minogues first album

If it's that you are SO welcome to itGrin

If you can't find it I would move hell and high water to find a replacement to get shot of him.

Ask for a specific description of the cover (as you need to know what you're looking for) and scour Etsy and online record dealers. Someone will have a copy and it'll be cheap at the price.

What an absolute idiot. And your solicitor isn't much better for not standing ground on your behalf.

donajimena · 26/09/2017 18:35

pookie Have a look at Northern Soul originals on ebay. Some of them go for thousands. Even my Stone Roses LP is around 25.00

PookieSnackenberger · 26/09/2017 18:45

Yeah - I'm willing to be this isn't a priceless original though. Just a way of causing the utmost irritation to the OP.

If it was worth that much, surely he would have it in his treasured collection not turfed it out to a charity shop.

OP, you could totally sell this tale to one of the tabloids. before they nick it

RandomMess · 26/09/2017 18:53

I would just reply back "if I ever find it you can have it but no idea where it is after all this time"

Elendon · 26/09/2017 18:54

Prefab Sprout? (I actually found the album this song is on in the attic and returned it to my ex)
