Just that really! Simple pleasures Smile

Soft boiled eggs are indeed lovely, with or without toast.
But calling them dippy eggs sounds wrong to me. I've never heard anyone in rl call them that and tbh unless they were talking to a small child I'd think they were rather odd.

Babyblues14 · 26/09/2017 18:09

I thought a chucky egg was the runny one. God I haven't heard that in ages. Takes me back. My mum always said it Grin
Quite fancy one now, with lots of salt on the yolk

beesandknees · 26/09/2017 18:11

YANBU

YABU not to call them soldiers

YANBU to put Marmite on the soldiers

PickAChew · 26/09/2017 18:20

Isn't a Chucky egg just referring to it being from the chicken?

x2boys · 26/09/2017 18:27

My sister used to eat eggs and shoulders.

FiveBoys · 26/09/2017 18:30

Isn't a Chucky egg just referring to it being from the chicken?

Good point!

We actually just called them 'egg 'n' a cup'

WhiskyChick · 26/09/2017 18:38

I love a good dippy egg. Nothing quite like it. Toast just going cold before butter to ensure a proper rigidity to dip. Mmmmmm

I'm not a big one for kitchen gadgets but I have a Petra https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00008WFDK/ref=cmswwrcppapi_taPYzbNSPB42G which is the best invention ever and I get perfect eggs every time. I also have eggs more frequently because it always seemed a waste to boil a pan just for me

jobergamot · 26/09/2017 18:39

I couldn't bear eggs until I was a grown up but I still call them dippy Grin...

So glad the health police recommendation of no more than 2 eggs per week has been pilloried!

NC04 · 26/09/2017 18:41

If "dippy eggs" is good enough for the BBC then it's good enough for me!

YANBU, OP, only I'm now eating low-carb which means no toast for me. Therefore, you're being VVVU for putting the thought into my head!

niccyb · 26/09/2017 18:49

Crumpet with marmite, cheese and a poached or dippy egg on top is even better

dippyeggsandtoast · 26/09/2017 23:57

😉 of course

KrytensNanobots · 27/09/2017 00:01

Ok, slightly off topic, but in reply to whoever it was who said "wargh don't call them dippy eggs, why not boiled eggs?!"
they're not the same thing. Boiled eggs are boiled eggs. As in hard. Dippy eggs are soft boiled eggs and not the same thing. Smile
Used to love them as a kid but sadly allergic to them now. If someone can tell me how to make vegan dippy eggs and soldiers I'll be a happy bunny.... Grin

Arealhumanbeing · 27/09/2017 01:27

YANBU. My soft boiled eggs and soldiers come out perfect every time. I'm going to have them when I get up now, so thanks, OP!

Belleende · 27/09/2017 05:46

I love them. DP brings them to me in bed. Burford browns. Sourdough toast. Herbamare. Best breakfast ever.

imjessie · 27/09/2017 06:31

My favourite is poached eggs on toast !

ShowMePotatoSalad · 27/09/2017 06:35

Soft boiled eggs with Warburtons toastie, spread with salted butter. Belinda Carlisle was right - heaven really is a place on Earth.

Oblomov17 · 27/09/2017 06:36

Oh. and when you've finished eating them you tip them back over, so it looks like a real egg again.
Then you get your adult to smash it open. And they feign shock and disappointment that there is no real egg.

My dad did that to me and I loved it.
Ds2 now does it to me. Every single time. And he too adores it.

Please tell me it's not just me? Blush

MongerTruffle · 27/09/2017 06:42

Envy (not envy)
Runny eggs are disgusting.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 27/09/2017 06:51

I wouldn't call them runny. Runny suggests free flowing. Soft boiled eggs should be rich, unctious, glossy. Mmmmmmm

Scribblegirl · 27/09/2017 06:53

We used to do that oblomov Grin

We actually went one step further - at my house they were just 'eggs and soldiers' because everyone knows what type of egg you're serving due to the 'soldiers' bit. Also, can't you dip into a fried egg?

Natsku · 27/09/2017 09:29

Am very sad today, had planned on cooking me and DD a couple of dippy eggs each for breakfast but found out that OH cooked and ate almost all the eggs last night, only two left, and then I dropped one when putting it in the pan thanks to DD shouting about something which broke and got ruined so there was only one dippy egg left and I had to give it to DD because otherwise I would be a cruel mother :(

sashh · 27/09/2017 09:37

Wtf are chucky eggs?

Hens eggs ie from a chuck rather than a duck or goose.

< Remembers making YP with duck eggs mmmm>

can't you dip into a fried egg?

Yes and poached.

anotherprosecco · 27/09/2017 09:44

When you've finished your boiled egg you have to turn it upside down and smash it so that the witches can't go to sea....

RaeCJ82 · 27/09/2017 09:49

When I was little I'd turn my finished egg over and then tell my mum that I didn't want it. She then had to play along knowing full well that she'd taken the top of the egg off for me. Ah to be young and innocent again.
What are baked eggs?

alfagirl73 · 27/09/2017 09:49

That's it - I'm working from home today - I'm making eggs and soldiers!
