To Ask How Long it Takes you to get Ready in Mornings?

I wake up at 7:00 and need to be out of the house by 8, which gives me an hour, quite a long time? Without adding anything else, it takes me nearly ten minutes to heave myself out of, a further twenty for breakfast, twenty minutes in the bathroom to go to the toilet, clean teeth etc and then another ten minutes to get dressed, so I always end up applying any makeup in the car as well as brushing my hair. Am I just ridiculously slow or do others have this struggle too? Confused

Too long, I get up at 6/6.30 me and ds 7yrs and ds 10. Need to leave house at 8.15. Its ridiculous the mornings are very stressfull.

Gillian1980 · 25/09/2017 22:54

If it's just me.... 20 mins.

But me and DD..... at least an hour! Takes her forever to eat breakfast.

2ducks2ducklings · 25/09/2017 22:54

My last snooze goes off at 6.33am and I'm out the door by 7.15am. I'm 34 weeks pregnant and really cannot be arsed to go to much effort. As long as I'm clean and wearing matching shoes, I'm as happy as I'm going to be. My husband sorts the kids out though as he doesn't have to leave until after the school run. If I had to get the kids ready too, I just wouldn't bother going to bed!

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/09/2017 22:57

I get up at 7, I have 1 4yo to get ready for school (including toilet, breakfast, brush teeth and uniform on) and 1 baby to get ready, plus me (currently on maternity leave so don’t put loads of effort into my appearance as only doing the school run). We leave the house at 8.15, and it’s plenty of time. We can actually be ready all of us in about 30 minutes (DH helps on the morning where he hasn’t been working through the night) but I like the 75 minutes because I really hate rushing about. I’d rather have the time to do things at a leisurely pace!

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/09/2017 22:58

Also I never shower in the mornings, always the night before, saved so much time!

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/09/2017 23:03

How are people showering and drying their hair AND getting dressed in just 15 mins?!

Also I hate to point out the obvious, but if you’re getting up at 4am then spending 30 minutes “having a cuppa to wake myself up as I’m knackered” - wouldn’t it be wiser to have a bit more time in bed?

OhTheRoses · 25/09/2017 23:04

I loved mornings with the DC. Don't know how I did it looking back. Routine varied with their ages but I recollect them having breakfast in their jimjams in the kitchen, going upstairs for teeth and hands and they used to get dressed watching Big Cook Little Cook. It was shoes on at 8.20.

CardsforKittens · 25/09/2017 23:18

I hate mornings and I'm so slow but can't seem to speed up. I set five alarms, starting at 6:45, and by the time the fifth alarm gets me out of bed it's 7:30 or even later. From that point it takes me an entire hour to drink tea, eat something, shower and get dressed. I'm usually out of the house by 8:30-8:45 although sometimes even later. My work hours are quite flexible and I often work in the evening. I can go to bed between midnight and 1am but I never fall asleep before 2ish. I sleep later at weekends to 'catch up'.

TinselAngel · 25/09/2017 23:19

I am completely horrified how early lots of you have to get up. Thank goodness my commute is currently only 20 minutes by car.

I get up at 7.30 and DD (13) and I are out the house at 8.15.

Justgivemesomepeace · 25/09/2017 23:25

Wake at 6.10 drag myself out of bed 6.20. Bathroom (shower night before), loo, teeth, makeup. Get dressed. Sort hair. Go downstairs, get together bags for d's and I. Make coffee in travel mug. Get uniform/coats and shoes together. Back upstairs wake d's (4). Dress him. Back down. Shoes and coats on, out of door by 7. Child minder sorts his breakfast and I get mine at work.

Ledkr · 25/09/2017 23:28

I get everything ready the night before. Food, clothes, bags packed etc.
Never shower in the morning.
Up at 7, dress, get kids up while kettle boiling.
Kids dress and brekfast. Dd off on bus at 7.45 I leave at 8.30 drop dd2 off at school and then shoot off myself.
My morning seems like a lie in compared to some of you!

hula008 · 25/09/2017 23:29

To all who rely on multiple alarms and don't want to: put alarm device (phone, iPad, clock) at the opposite end on the room and on super loud and annoying mode so you have to get out of bed to turn it off.

Sashkin · 25/09/2017 23:33

I do everything the night before. Bag packed, lunch made. I just have to brush my teeth, put my cycling clothes on and go. So I can be out of the house in 15mins most days.

Shower at work (when I'm more awake), eat breakfast at work (when I'm awake enough to have an appetite), etc etc. Works much better for me. My pre-starting work routine takes about 30mins.

Sashkin · 25/09/2017 23:38

My current job is only 30 mins cycle away, so I can get up at 7am to be ready to start work by 8:30.

For my longest commute I had to get up at 5:30 to be out by before 6, cycle across town to get the 6:45 train, ten minutes bike ride at the other end, shower and breakfast to start at 9am. My second longest was the same, but different train and started at 8:30. Both finished at 6pm, so I was usually home around 8pm, except for once a week when I was on call when I got home after midnight. Hellish.

SabineUndine · 25/09/2017 23:54

30 mins and I move like greased lightning.

Buggeritimgettingup · 26/09/2017 06:04

NoMoreAngstPls · 26/09/2017 07:20

Up at 6.15. Make breakfast for me and DH (once or twice week DH does this).
Empty dishwasher, fill everyone's water bottles, lunchboxes in bags, washing machine on.
Eat breakfast while MNing.
7am -get DCs breakfast, quick tidy around, make-up, hair.
7.30am -get dressed, check DCs look presentable and have everything for school. DH leaves for work.
7.40am DD leaves for school.
7.50am DS and I leave for school/work.

Sometimes DH and I swap, so he takes DS and I leave earlier.

LazyDailyMailJournos · 26/09/2017 07:37

Cherry I have long hair so I give it a 5 minute blast to get it reasonably dry and then tie it back. I don't bother trying to properly blow dry or style it - literally hang my head upside down and go! Makeup is very basic because I CBA wearing a lot and prefer it lighter.

I wash my face first thing and put toner on before walking the dogs - then when I come back and get in the shower I don't get my face wet, and put moisturiser on when I'm drying off. Makeup on after drying hair - a few dabs of concealer, bit of powder to take the shine off, coat of mascara and sweep of blusher - that's it.

speakout · 26/09/2017 07:43

I get up at 6, leave the house at 8 to do school run.
I like to take my time in the morning and have a leisurely coffee.

Oblomov17 · 26/09/2017 08:14

Try to get out of bed at 7.40. Ds's dress themselves, I do breakfast for Ds2, occasionally make a lunch for ds1, and I make a breakfast for myself and a lunch from a myself. Shower, brush teeth, blow dry hair, make up, dressed. Leave home at 8.40am.

That's the ideal. Yesterday I got out of bed at 8am and we ran out the door at 8.50 and the traffic was so bad I couldn't drop him in the school drop off zone, so he had to get out and cross with the lollipop lady. Blush

greentea4me · 26/09/2017 08:36

You all are so slow! I get showered and dressed while I'm still asleep, saves so much time.

Lol not really, I take 1.5 hours.

Ragwort · 26/09/2017 08:43

I enjoy mornings so I like at least an hour and a half - two hours before I leave. But most of that is spent checking mumsnet Grin and drinking coffee rather than anything particularly useful.

Evelynismyspyname · 26/09/2017 15:29

Cards you're setting your alarm to disturb your sleep only 4 3/4 hours after you know you'll fall asleep, so it's no wonder you can't get up!

Wouldn't it make more sense to set an alarm later that you know that you have to get up for rather than disturbing your own sleep after such a short time knowing that you won't get up then anyway?

If your work day can be flexied and you know that going to sleep earlier is impossible for you would you be able to start at 10am or even 10:30? Set an alarm for 8:30 or 9am and at least you'll have a fighting chance of getting up then having just about had enough sleep! Very few people do well on under 5 hours on a long term regular basis...

CardsforKittens · 26/09/2017 17:22

Evelyn you're absolutely right. I've been trying to live like this all my adult life. Some days I have to start earlier (9ish) and I was trying to get up at the same time every day because I heard that's better, but it hasn't really worked and the older I get the harder I find mornings. I'll try setting my alarm later tomorrow!

imjessie · 26/09/2017 18:43

I get up at 6.45 and leave the house at 8 ish . I have to dress and feed my son and get us all out the door . I wear make up every day and try to dress nicely . It is doable but there is no time for fandangling 😬
