I wake up at 7:00 and need to be out of the house by 8, which gives me an hour, quite a long time? Without adding anything else, it takes me nearly ten minutes to heave myself out of, a further twenty for breakfast, twenty minutes in the bathroom to go to the toilet, clean teeth etc and then another ten minutes to get dressed, so I always end up applying any makeup in the car as well as brushing my hair. Am I just ridiculously slow or do others have this struggle too? Confused

Wow. 40mins tops. I am the quickest woman my DH has ever known to get ready to go out, so the standard work day is quicker. I make my lunch, drink tea (he is up first and makes for me so it is cool enough), eat breakfast, v quick shower and get dressed and out door by 730. Brief words with 13 year old (she takes 50 mins and reads whilst getting ready) and say goodbye to 9 year old who is in bed reading still! No make up.

MrsJamesAspey · 25/09/2017 19:08

I know everyone is different, but I cannot fathom why people (without relevant health problems) don't just get out of bed when the alarm goes off.

If I did that I'd fall flat on my face Grin

I've jumped out of bed in panic before because I've overslept, but then quickly had to sit down again before I keel over, it's probably due to the low blood pressure. So now I wake up, lie there for a bit reading mumsnet and then eventually get up and stagger to the loo Smile

ThymeLord · 25/09/2017 19:08

It's taken me ages to get into a routine but I'm a dynamo in the mornings now. Up at 5.30. Exercise until 6. Walk the dog until 6.40. Prep that nights tea and have a brew til 7. Teeth, make up, hair done in time to leave house at 7.30.

The key for me is getting things laid out the night before. Clothes, kettle filled, tea bag in cup, dogs lead out ready etc. etc .

BewareOfTheToddler · 25/09/2017 19:10

Takes 40 minutes for me when dealing with DS (2). On a good day, we're both up at 0630, he watches videos Blush while I shower and get dressed, then deal with the at, then I dress him, and we head out of the door; I drop him at the childminder's, then head back to drop the pushchair and check everything is locked up.

This is only possible if a) toddler is being co-operative, b) cat has not chosen that morning to bring gifts of mice/birds to the homestead, and c) I've laid out clothes the night before and packed his dinner for the childminder (she only provides lunch). Oh, and he has breakfast at the childminder and I have mine at work, so that cuts down on the hassle immensely. And I leave my hair wet and do makeup on the train Blush or at work.

It would be a damn sight easier if he would reliably sleep through in his own bed as I can't get up until he does (we usually end up co-sleeping at some stage in the night). On a really bad morning, I just put jeans and coat on, run him to the childminder and then head home and shower then.

Alarm goes off at 6.20, 6.30 and 6.45.
Boys up at 6.30 they have brushed teeth and gone down with dh when I get in the shower. I go down at 7 dressed with wet hair dh has poured a cup of tea and dh goes up for a shower.
Boys finish breakfast get dressed by 7.25 and they leave for school at 7.30 with dh.
I put a washer load on and stack the dishwasher before leaving for work at 7.40. Start work at 8

I dry my hair in the car. Makeup isn't worn unless v special occasion.

ABitOfACyclePath · 25/09/2017 19:21

6.30 - alarm, get straight up to go to loo then go and start washing machine (loaded night before) Have a wash and get myself dressed.
7.15 - DD alarm goes off. She has SEN and I have to help with all aspects of personal care I take her to the loo as soon as she's up.
7.30 - breakfast for DD while I get all her medications ready.
7.45 - Brush DD teeth and get her dressed and hair up, AFOs and shoes on plus jacket.
8.00 - empty washing machine and hang/put in drier, have my own breakfast and wash up plus make sandwiches for DS coming in from work. Brush my own teeth etc.
8.25 - leave to take DD to school.

Evelynismyspyname · 25/09/2017 19:24

MrsJames that's a relevant health problem though.

daisypond · 25/09/2017 19:25

Alarm goes at 6:15, I leave the house at 6:45. I can just about push it to getting out of bed at 6:25, but virtually always get up when the alarm goes. Shower, cup of tea, slice of toast. The main key for me is all clothes laid out the night before and packed lunch in the fridge ready to go.

Shockers · 25/09/2017 19:30

Up at 5:30, put tea into slow cooker if needed. Shower, dry hair, do make up and get dressed. Make breakfast for me and kids, make lunches. Have coffee, brush teeth, and out of the house for 7:40.

Copperspot · 25/09/2017 19:39

I live alone so it's just me to sort. I shower / hair wash / blowdry at night.
I also pack my bag and pick my clothes.

Get up at 6.30
Have a wee, make a brew, music on, straighten hair, face on, get dressed. Out the door at 7.10am.

Copperspot · 25/09/2017 19:40

Oh i also have breakfast at work

BusySittingDown · 25/09/2017 19:43

It takes me forever in a morning Blush.

5.30 Dh’s alarm goes off and he wakes me up (I’m deaf and can’t hear it).
5.30-6.00 I do a work out.
6.00-6.30 I collapse in front of the TV with a cup of tea and breakfast.
6.30 start to get ready so I shower, wash hair, moisturise, brush teeth and put my make up on. At some point the DC will surface, if not I wake them up at 7.30 and nag them to have breakfast, get dressed etc.
I’ll run around getting all the lunches together, make beds, empty the dishwasher and basically try to tidy round as much as possible before I leave for work (I hate the feeling of coming back to an untidy house).
I do the girls’ hair when they are ready and then I’ll go give mine a quick blast with the hairdryer.

I start nagging them to get their coats and shoes on at 8 and they’ll generally fanny around winding each other up and messing about. We eventually leave the house at 8.15.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 25/09/2017 19:44

Up at 6.25. Make a cup of tea for me and DH then sit on bed drinking it until DH finishes in the shower. 6.40 ish into shower, make up on, dressed and hair blow dried by 7.10, make sure DS is at least partly dressed, eat cereal. Make travel cup of coffee, read a bit of Mumsnet. Shout at DS to get off to school. DS and I both leave house at 7.35. DH usually leaves before I get downstairs.

reallyanotherone · 25/09/2017 19:44

Up at 4am, gym, start getting ready at 5 and leave house at 6 with breakfast

You have a gym in your house?

I get up at 6 and am out the house by 6.20 if it’s just me. 25mins if the dog won’t go wee and i have to stand in the garden with it.

If it’s the kids too we get up at 7 and are out the house by 8 fairly easily, including tantrums over hair and breakfast.

Eminybob · 25/09/2017 19:51

30 mins - 45 mins dependent on if I need to iron uniform.
Dh gets ds ready while I get ready as he doesn't need to leave until later.
That includes shower hair and makeup. I don't eat breakfast though, i sacrifice food for longer in bed!

HappyGoFucky · 25/09/2017 20:10

Up at 6, wash and style hair and makeup. If I don’t get up before kids it doesn’t fucking happen.

Haul teenager out of bed at 7, youngest follows soon after. Breakfasts and clothes on and out the door at 8.15.

Seems like ages but I would honestly spend my days looking like a homeless fucking scarecrow if I didn’t get up that early

tehmina23 · 25/09/2017 20:13

I start work at 715 some shifts, so up at 550, breakfast porridge, shower & wash hair, dress, put make up on ready for 7 to get to work by 10 past (I live really close by).

phlebasconsidered · 25/09/2017 20:14

I'm up at 5.15. Do a bit of marking, sort stuff out, check emails from Slt. Eat breakfast, make kids lunches, my lunch. Iron stuff. Prefer to do it in the morning, am marking most evenings. Quick shower, poke kids up, insist on them being dressed. Take them to childminders, drive onto work by 7.15. Get to work about 7.45. I'm lucky because the kids eat at the childminders happily and I don't have any hair or make up to bother about. Since medical treatment my hair is grade 3 all over and it saves about half an hour! Allergic to most make up so a quick mascara is all.

SnowiestMountain · 25/09/2017 20:17

Up at 7, out at 08:40 with 2 x DC, all of us showered, hair washed, etc. Full clean outfits/uniforms for everyone ironed. DC have breakfast, I don't!

Bearberry · 25/09/2017 20:20

Up at 6, out house at 6:30 when working. DH sorts toddler out as he doesn't have to leave for work till 9. I shower and wash hair in the eve and eat breakfast in car on way to work. Therefore it's a cup of coffee, while I clean teeth, slap some makeup on, brush hair and dress.

dudsville · 25/09/2017 20:20

For going to work I like to have an hour but can manage with 30 min. The coffee pot is on a timer so I get up, no snooze button, pour coffee, loo, get into the shower, wash my hair, towel up and moisturise and put foundation on, deodorant and perfume, then sit down with coffee in my wonderful robe, do my make up, which is easy, just eyes, brows and lips, then hair, about 10 min, then dressing (can do it in 3 min but prefer 10). Then it's loo and teeth and I'm away. I have breakfast later as it's too early to eat. For non work going out I can do it easily in 30-45 min.

Popsicle434544 · 25/09/2017 20:26

Me and 4 children Up at 7, im straight into shower whilst kids dress and brush teeth, down for breakfast by 7.20, sort packed lunches, out door by 8, usually have 10mins or so spare to do dishes, cuddle with kids.

manglethedangle · 25/09/2017 20:28

Me and 18mo DS, about 30 minutes if not washing my hair, 45 if I am and DH doesn't get DS ready.

I wear make up and shower every day, would be 15-20 mins of I didn't do one of those.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 25/09/2017 20:31

I can be ready for work in 10-20 mins. Including breakfast and a shower!

Worriedrose · 25/09/2017 20:38

1/2 hour
Shower 10 mins
Rest 20 mins
Can't bear fucking around. Up and out
