To ask if you had a forceps delivery wit 1st baby did it mean the same again for subsequent deliveries?

Had a slightly traumatic birth with my 1st that ended with forceps in theatre as he was stuck and heart rate dropped but everything was fine in the end.
Noone knows what will happen next time but just looking for abit of advice or your experiences if you had forceps with your 1st delivery was the 2nd any easier or did it end the same way?

2+ hours of pushing and forceps with DS1. DS2 ( a whole pound heavier) appeared in 2 pushes in less than 2 minutes - an almighty tear but no forceps!

HornyTortoise · 25/09/2017 16:15

36 hour labour and forceps delivery here, huge blood loss too with first. 20 stitches inside and out

Second I still had a lot of blood loss, but labour was only an hour long or so and just such an easy delivery all round really. 3 pushes, small graze.

Hollybollybingbong · 25/09/2017 20:31

DS, my first was back to back, I had epidural, forceps and ventouse, not quite the water birth I wanted!
DD, my second, gas and air and an easy 2 hour labour.

roses2 · 25/09/2017 20:41

I had forceps with my first, he was 2.9kg plus an episiotomy which developed a cyst and took 6 months to heal :(

Second baby was 3.4kg, came out with no tearing as the student midwife was fantastic and massaged me well!

I'm fairly petit, 1.52m tall and slim

penstemon · 25/09/2017 20:42

No! Two pushes & DS shot out and was lucky to be caught by the MW as he flew off the bed. A very different experience!

Arion · 25/09/2017 20:46

Baby 1 induced day 14 overdue, syntocin, epidural, episiotomy, forceps.

Baby 2 came of own accord on day 8 overdue, homebirth, amazing experience, only needed tens machine, no stitches needed.

notangelinajolie · 25/09/2017 20:52

Baby 1 Born in theatre/gruesome Keilands rotation forceps.

Baby 2 nearly 9lbs. Easy birth.

placemark123 · 25/09/2017 20:58

Very similar to look but just wanted to say that elcs second time round was still brilliant! Am very jealous of these fab second time round stories, but was advised by obstetrician not to try it. But experience still lovely!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 25/09/2017 20:59

DC1 (7lb) was ventouse
DC2 (9lb, 99th centile head) was a normal delivery.

LordPercy · 25/09/2017 21:01

Forceps and all hell breaking loose with dc1, nothing but gas and air with subsequent dc2&3. However I was pretty bad with PND after dc2 once I realised how completely shit dc1’s birth had been.

Topseyt · 25/09/2017 21:13

DD1 was a traumatic delivery - ventouse with episiotomy, much tearing and a poorly working epidural.

DD2 was much better. No ventouse or forceps needed, and no episiotomy or tearing.

DD3 was an emergency c-section at 35 weeks as the waters had gone prematurely with meconium in them.

I think if this thread shows anything it is that with regard to childbirth, history frequently doesn't repeat itself. I guess there will be some exceptions to that, but it is what I have generally experienced and seen.

Dauphinois · 25/09/2017 21:20

I had forceps with my first and a really easy birth with my second. Hope it goes well for you op.

Ohb0llocks · 25/09/2017 21:42

I’m due with DS2 in 7 weeks, DS1s birth wasn’t the best, I loved every minute but wish it hadn’t gone for an epidural, seemed to really slow down and bugger up my labour. He got really distressed and had poo’d in his waters and I tore quite badly.

Hoping this one is a breeze!

toconclude · 25/09/2017 21:44

No. Forceps AND ventouse for no 1 son. No 2 son even bigger but better position and no help needed.

Ttbb · 25/09/2017 22:07

My DS1 went into shock so we finished off with a ventouse (similar function to forceps). DS2 didn't require any intervention.

PussCatTheGoldfish · 25/09/2017 22:09

First: forceps. No pain relief, bad tear, pph. Theatre for a repair job afterwards.

Second: elective CSection. 100% better. Recovery was a doddle by comparison too.

Usernamegone · 25/09/2017 22:10

My mum was induced and had forceps with me. When my brother came along she had a spontaneous labour with no forceps.

CheeseCrackersAndWine · 25/09/2017 22:18

1st baby, waters broke, contractions, all stopped, induction, epidural, theatre, foreceps 3rd degree tear then finally 2.5 days after it all started DD1 was born, 5 days early weighing 7lbs 13ozs

2nd baby, 2 paracetamol & almost arrived in the hospital corridor, born 4 days late weighing 7lbs 1oz.

Cyclewidow46 · 25/09/2017 22:20

I had a forceps delivery for DC2 after a CS for DC1.
I'm pleased to say DC3 was an easy delivery with no assistance/ pain relief at all.

Nicketynac · 25/09/2017 22:37

Forceps for foetal distress for number one, ventouse for bleeding (mine) for number two. Both totally different labours, but the second did not "slide out" like so many people promised me!
MIL has eight kids and eight very different labour stories.

DramaAlpaca · 25/09/2017 22:41

DC1 long labour, epidural, couldn't feel to push, baby was helped out with low forceps.

DC2 & DC3 nice, quick births with no intervention required - no forceps in sight.

RainbowPastel · 25/09/2017 22:53

My mum had forceps for my DB. I flew out apparently.

bertiesgal · 25/09/2017 23:22

DD1- mid cavity forceps with no epidural and a fractured clavicle.

DS1-elCS-the loveliest most calming experience of my life with the smug added bonus of the obstetric reg thanking me for saving her from a nasty emergency section due to DS's very tight double nuchal cord.

DTs -elCS-no bloody way was I taking any risks after growing the 2 little monkeys for 8.5 months with all the stress of a high risk pregnancy.

Have always felt so confident in my decision to go down the slCS route but reading these stories of smooth 2nd deliveries is making me wobble slightly! However, I really loved my elCSx2 and I know that it was right for me and my lovely children 😍.

Bippitybopityboo · 25/09/2017 23:34

Do most hospitals have somewhere or someone you can go to chat about a traumatic birth experience? I'd like to see my notes as what happened is abit of a blur and I have quite bad anxiety about it

Yes, you can request a debriefing.

Not sure if there’s a time limit after the birth to do it by, I don’t think there is though!
