People who stand outside the entrances of tube/train stations smoking

Grrrr.

I don't want to breathe that shit in at the best of times, even less so now I'm pregnant. Its smelly and carcinogenic, and by doing it there they are forcing the rest of us to walk through it and have to breathe it in.

Go and take your vile habits somewhere else where the rest of us can escape from it more easily!!

Am I being unreasonable to think that people shouldn't do it, and that creating a cloud of cigarette smoke outside the station that non smokers have to walk through totally misses the point of the smoking ban?

Why can’t I just stand on the side where my fag is not going to disturb anyone? Why do everyone wants to walk through my smoke?

They don't, there is no choice and isn't it against the law to smoke at the entrance?

Cameblackbenzleftwhite1 · 25/09/2017 13:34

Yanbu.

MN told me I was being unreasonable for not liking people smoking in a bus shelter even though it's clearly banned as it "wasn't illegal". Fuckwits.

Calmanrose · 25/09/2017 13:36

Smokers should only smoke in their own houses.

Beansonapost · 25/09/2017 13:55

YANBU!!!

I didn't realize just how many people smoke until I moved to the UK... walking down the street there is always a cloud of smoke to walk through ...every. step.you.take.

I find it more disgusting than car fumes... at least those I can't smell and don't have the displeasure of having to walk through it...

plus I'm tired of holding my breath... and it's not something my children are capable of doing.

I hope they hike the prices of cigarettes etc. so fewer people can afford it...and quit smoking smile

ClearEyesFullHearts · 25/09/2017 13:57

cathf I bloody loved your post explaining the progression of entitlement.

myrtle I disagree completely that smoking is anti-social; I've met quite a few very nice people out there on the pavement and even met my husband when he sidled up to me to borrow" a fag.

This is why smoking is banned. Selfish smokers couldn't "police" themselves so we had to ban it outright. Hmm

No, yodel, no. That's really not why smoking was banned.

I don't smoke anymore. But God I miss it sometimes.

OP, yabu I'm afraid. We live in a free society and other people's bad habits are something we simply have to tolerate. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Flowers

Myheartbelongsto · 25/09/2017 14:03

Another pregnant woman that the world will have to revolve around.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 25/09/2017 14:15

YABU. I'm a non smoker and I am bemused by how het up people get on these threads. It's not good for your blood pressure and the stress isn't good for your general health either.

cathf · 25/09/2017 14:20

Cleareyes .. and I love your phrase progression of entitlement.
I shall use it again!

hardbite · 25/09/2017 14:20

Yanbu. I'm not pregnant but I find it annoying and a bit pathetic. But I take comfort in the fact that they're spending a fortune and will end up with wrinkles, yellow fingers and lung cancer, so they lose out really.

blackteasplease · 25/09/2017 14:25

Yanbu

You're not even allowed to smoke their at any of the stations I go through

RedForFilth · 25/09/2017 14:44

hardbite I think most people would agree that wishing cancer on people or "taking comfort" in people getting cancer is much more vile than smoking.

limitedperiodonly · 25/09/2017 14:59

I didn't realize just how many people smoke until I moved to the UK

Where did you move from and to? Fewer than 20 per cent of people in the UK smoke these days. The percentage is higher in some parts of the country than in others, but it's still a diminishing habit.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/09/2017 20:13

But I take comfort in the fact that they're spending a fortune and will end up with wrinkles, yellow fingers and lung cancer, so they lose out really.
You take comfort in people dying from lung cancer? What a vile person you are

Threenme · 25/09/2017 20:15

"Finding something annoying and a bit pathetic"...I find my dh fishing obsession both these things- I don't wish cancer on him. How vile you are hardbite.

londonrach · 25/09/2017 20:16

Yanbu!!!! I hate it too (climbs into smoke free bubble)

scaryclown · 25/09/2017 20:16

Cameblackbenzleftwhite1 · 25/09/2017 20:24

Is taking comfort in them looking old and haggared ok?

Threenme · 25/09/2017 20:26

No I don't think it is but it's less sinister than the dying!

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 25/09/2017 20:28

I asthmatic. It drives me up the wall tbh. Especially people who smoke outside hospital entrances!

neighbourhoodwitch · 25/09/2017 20:39

ParsnipLeekAndLemonSoup · 25/09/2017 21:23

smokers when you are gurning away desperately on your fag non smokers are thinking odfod right back at you

Speak for yourself. This non smoker isn't.

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/09/2017 21:27

In terms of brief secondary impact of smoking - yabu and should really be more concerned about car fumes if you're so concerned for your health.

All the second hand smoke studies relate to prolonged experiences of such e.g living with smokers who smoke indoors/in cars but being a non smoker not 'passing a smoker by for 10 seconds'

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/09/2017 21:28

Came

I'm a smoker and look years than I am.
