Is it ok to drink water in a gym changing room?

Ok, don't shoot me down for asking about such a trivial matter - I know it's trivial, that's what Mumsnet is for!

My DD 4yrs and I were in the changing room after her swimming lesson today, and she was having a drink of water from a bottle. A gym member who had just entered the changing room, pointed to the 'No eating or drinking' sign;
Lady: Have you seen the sign?
Me: We're not eating.
Lady: No eating OR drinking.
Me: (incredulous 😲) It's only water.
Lady: I didn't put the sign up!
Me: Well, I think she's allowed a drink of water. 😧

At this point I left, but was completely gobsmacked by such an attitude!
I completely understand that they wouldn't want people drinking hot drinks, fizzy drinks and even juice but surely it is perfectly acceptable to drink water in a gym setting? Don't most people need a drink during and after their workouts or swimming, including in the changing room?

What would you have said to her?

I jut realised that my post may read as though the willy was in the crisps. It was not. The crisps were being held in the other hand and eaten between tugs at the willy. Grin

I think I would like to see a designer try to create a no masturbating whilst eating crisps sign. I would like to be a fly on the wall in that office. I really would.

Well, HeartsTrumpDiamonds (and anyone else interested), I finally got a reply from the gym....

"Our terms and conditions clearly state that there is no eating or drinking in the changing areas at all the venues that [swimming lesson franchise] use. We cannot monitor which fluids are being consumed by customers in the changing rooms, therefore we have to have a strict no drinking and eating policy. We do have a café and reception area at [this particular] venue where you can sit and have refreshments if you need to after your class has taken place.

I understand that the way you were approached by another member at the venue may have caused you upset or anger, and we apologise if you were made to feel uncomfortable."

So, no more swigging water for us! Grin

I'd still swig water if thirsty tbh.
