to think this chap doesn't own the road outside his house and wrapping cars in cling film is ridiculous?

A chap in Liverpool is wrapping cars in cling film if they park outside his house for longer than he considers necessary.

www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/uk-news/man-fed-up-people-parking-13663392

He lives near Liverpool Airport and people are parking in nearby estates, getting a taxi to the airport and saving on fees. Yes it's probably annoying (I used to live next to a very busy commuter station and our road was often rammed with cars from 7-7, so I understand an element of frustration) but what in the heck is it with people losing their mind if someone parks outside their house? It's a public road!

"Neil complained he can no longer park his own car outside of his house because of the Skoda."

He said: “I thought it was cheeky leaving the car there so thought I’d leave them a nice surprise for when they got back.

“I work at Costco so I went and bought a big roll of cling-film from there.”

The police even came to check it out and said they can't move the car because it is legally parked.
Why do people think they own the slither of road outside their house?

Where I live, there are only a small number of houses with drives or garages, it's generally a busy street and some times you don't get to park outside your house or even on your street. Yes it's inconvenient but it doesn't matter, it generally works out that about 75% of the time you get to park in a continent spot for you and everyone else. Most people on our street don't care however a few are out in the street watching you park if you dare to even pull in near their house.

Only today one of our visitors parked outside the house of the man 2 doors down. She had no sooner started to reverse the car into the space and he was out watching her.

No, he doesn't own the road but I do thinkparking in a residential street and fucking off on holidays for a couple of weeks is taking the piss.

araiwa · 23/09/2017 17:59

If he did that to my car that id parked legally id cover his garden in dogshit. What a twat

WashingMatilda · 23/09/2017 17:59

What a tool. YANBU.
What does he think he's going to achieve anyway?? They're already parked there FFS and everyone using the airport is highly unlikely to read the article and think 'Oh, better not park there then, that's the guy who cling films people's cars'

The fact the police have said they can't move it (I'm a police officer and we can't unless it's causing an obstruction or suspected to be used in crime) means he must have bloody called them out! Ludicrous man.

Sarahrose21 · 23/09/2017 18:00

I agree, if people want the privilege of parking outside their own front door then they should buy/rent somewhere with parking and pay the increased price that generally goes along with that
I was stuck with on street parking for many years and finally have somewhere with off-road parking and I love it

Iruka · 23/09/2017 18:00

My parents live in one of those roads near Liverpool airport. They do get annoyed about cars left there for weeks at a time but they know it's perfectly legal.

(Quickly checking it isn't my dad in the story 😂)

Sirzy · 23/09/2017 18:01

I can understand why it’s annoying but doesn’t make what he has done right!

GemmaCollinsBabes · 23/09/2017 18:02

Irkua Does your dad also work at Costco? Grin

I wonder why he was so happy to name where he worked too, this doesn't seem like the kind of thing a huge American company would appreciate publicity from.

Gemma no he would have to pay full price for his cling film 😂😂

Sparklingbrook · 23/09/2017 18:08

Is this the car that has no MOT or insurance?

It would annoy me but there's nothing I could do about it. other than park on the road outside my own home all the time.

AVirtuousLife · 23/09/2017 18:09

You have a ready supply of dog shit to cover a whole garden araiwa?

TheweewitchRoz · 23/09/2017 18:12

I get why he did it & think it's fair enough actually. They've inconvenienced him (& yes, I know he doesn't own the road but it would annoy me a lot), so he's inconvenienced them.

CruCru · 23/09/2017 18:17

My Grandad was like this. Whenever someone parked outside his house, he would run out and tell them to move because he was waiting for an ambulance (he wasn't - and I'm sure an ambulance can double park). He didn't even have a car.

Ta1kinPeece · 23/09/2017 18:20

He is an arse but residents of such roads near airports do get my sympathy.
Its awful when cars are dumped for two weeks at a time just to save holidaymakers a few pounds

WashingMatilda · 23/09/2017 18:22

thewee Agree it would be annoying and don't think anyone would disagree, but it's ridiculous to think this is a reasonable way to behave. (From what I can see from the pics, it looks like he might have a drive anyway??)

Cru I'm not going to believe anyone who says that now! Imma be like 'Yeah well this person on mumsnet told me about her grandad so there' Grin

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 18:31

How do you cover a car in cling film?

At least it'll be nice and fresh when the owner comes back from holiday.

TheFairyCaravan · 23/09/2017 18:33

I think it's incredibly selfish to park your car in a residential street and bugger off on holiday. I bet that the owner of that Skoda would be pissed if the boot was on the other foot.

No one I know would dream of doing it. Airport parking is another expense that needs to be factored in when you're budgeting for your holiday. When did people become so bloody entitled? Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

JumpingJellybeanz · 23/09/2017 18:33

If he did this to me I'd buy a cheap car and leave it there forever. (Apart from trips to the garage to ensure it was legal)

Ebb · 23/09/2017 18:36

YANBU! If I'd done that, I certainly wouldn't go to the press and have my picture in the paper. However, it is a genius idea and should be filed away for use on the next MN parking thread! Wink

MatildaTheCat · 23/09/2017 18:36

We live near a big hospital and get a lot of selfish parking, including parking halfway across my drive. I'm now thinking that instead of my polite notes perhaps I should wrap the offending vehicles in bandages or plaster of Paris? Grin

changemyname1 · 23/09/2017 18:37

Perhaps he should get on to the council and get it all permit parking. I have to say it would really piss me off the CF parking then disappearing for a couple of weeks.

MaisyPops · 23/09/2017 18:39

I'm sympathetic to people having cars abandoned near airports / train stations.

But some people actually think they own the road. I haf my car damaged by someone like that as pay back because a visiting guest had parked opposite this neighbours house one afternoon on the other side of the street where there are no houses. Apparently (to sound like Sheldon Cooper) it's her spot for her family and friends to use.

NiktheGreek · 23/09/2017 18:40

No he doesn't own the road outside his house and no it's not illegal for anyone to park there. But it's downright rude and selfish to piss off and leave your car in someone else's neighbourhood for 2 weeks. We get it all the time here, the latest offender has even parked really badly taking up 2 parking spaces. Parking for residents is already a massive problem here. I just wouldn't be so rude as to park in someone else's neighbourhood. It baffles me that they pay out the money for 2 weeks in the sun yet won't pay a bit extra for proper parking.
