My little sister wants MAC makeup for Christmas?

My little sister will just be nine for Christmas. I've asked her what she wants and she said MAC makeup. AIBU to say no because A) she's nine and B) it's expensive makeup for a kid to most likely wreck?

Nine? Nine!!!!! Yanbu

I think piglet pots were actually meant to be pigment pots

Grin that one's sticking chez Tiramisu!

Modesty is a lovely shade.

I do think 9 is way too young though. Sad

Ericaequites · 22/09/2017 19:26

Nine is too young for any form of makeup. A nice untainted lip gloss from a lower middle priced line would be suitable.

NameChangeFamousFolk · 22/09/2017 19:30

'Mum, can I have a MAC lipstick?'
'Nope. Here's a cheap one. Wipe it off before we go out.'

DD1 has zero interest in labels/brands, and I can't imagine having that conversation with her, but if we did, it would probably go as above.

Jesus Christ, what happened to kids having kids stuff and adults adult stuff ?? When did all this giving kids everything when they havent heard it start ??

If she's taking your good make up then she should be given a stern bollocking, not given her own set. She wants MAC because it's out of her reach, buy her some rimmel if you must, in fact I wouldnt even spend that much on make up from a bleddy 9 year old who doesnt need it and just wants to brag to her mates.

pigeondujour · 22/09/2017 20:28

Neither Christmas presents nor makeup are really related to 'need' though are they, for anyone. It's just a treat.

NikiBabe · 23/09/2017 10:26

What is it with all these christmas present threads in September anyway.

DanHumphreyIsA · 23/09/2017 11:15

I know you've already agreed on a lipstick, but could you try NYX instead?
The lipsticks are as good a quality.
I know she's probably not concerned about the quality and more the name and look of Mac, but the NYX packaging is also a bit nicer than some other cheaper brands.

If she likes makeup anyway, could you get her a small mixture of NYX stuff before Xmas (or get some for yourself and let her try it) and she might actually change her mind.

If she loves her youtube MUAs, search for some of the bigger youtubers 'one brand drugstore' tutorials, she might find other brands to love.

i thought all nine year olds were into that kyle jenner lip stuff Grin

don't see it as such a big deal make up is fun. i used to nick my sisters mary quant stuff at that age. an awful lipstick type eyeshadow thing in green Grin

loopsdefruit · 23/09/2017 23:05

The idea that makeup is only used to cover up "flaws" is so harmful, it's fun, it's artistic, and if a 9 year old wants to put on crazy lipstick or bright eyeshadow or (shock horror) actually develops talents as a makeup artist, why is that a bad thing?

Most of the beauty bloggers and vloggers don't talk about image, and if they do it's in a positive way (all people are beautiful with or without makeup). Mostly it's "here's a look you can create, these are the products I used".

The other day I was in a department store and there was a kid, looked to be about 9 or 10, actually doing the makeup of a customer. This child was incredibly talented, far more talented than me, and they were having the best time! That's a potential career for them when they're older.

TheEdgeOfGlory266 · 23/09/2017 23:43

I would. Christmas presents are treats and are generally things that are usually inaccessible. I would have been over the moon if I got that as a Christmas present at 9.
As @DanHumphreyIsA said NYX is a good idea for a little extra bits. Cheap, but is actually quite good and the packaging looks good too.

Lipstick on a 9 year old Shock

Why would you want your little sister to look like some awful abused child for sale?
